ELDERLY LADY PASSES AWAY
Mrs. Katharine Artman, Dies at
the Home of Her Daughter,
Mrs. Louis Freimuth
From time to time the old residents
of Sheboygan are being called to their
reward by deaths. Last Saturday after-
noon Mrs. Katherine Artman, aged 75
years, 1 month and 26 days, breathed
her last at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Louis Freimuth, 1313 South Sev-
enth street, where she had been nursed
the past ten weeks.
Deceased was born in Middletown,
Pennsylvania, where she lived until
nineteen years of age, being united in
marriage to Lorenz Artman, who died
August 15, 1868. Upon arriving in Sheboygan
56 years, ago, with nothing but
wilderness about them, they decided to
remain and cast their lot, Mr. Artman
entering a co-partnership with Jacob
Jung, called the firm of Jung & Artman,
wagon makers, on the corner of Penn.
avenue and Ninth street. This was when
the old fashioned wagons were made
and the people used them in transportation
to Fond du Lac and other points,
no railroads being in existence. During
his time they resided on Ninth street
and ever since the death of Mr. Artman
widow had such a fondness for
the old homestead that she continued to
reside here, not caring to be removed
to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Freimuth.
However, the aged lady found it
was best for her and until the time of
her death received tender and thoughtful
care from her daughter and other
relatives. During the time she suffered
considerable, but at all times was well
cared for, and suffered the pangs of
pain with faith and fortitude very commendable
for the kind hearted lady.
Shortly before her death Mrs. Artman
reconciled herself to the rules and laws
of the Catholic church and received the
last sacraments, administered by Rev.
Father Van Treeck, afterward passing
away in a peaceful manner as though
going to sleep.
Deceased leaves the following relatives
to mourn her loss. Sons and daughters:
Mrs. Louis Freimuth, Mrs. Rudolph
Reiboldt, Lorenz Artman of Sheboygan,
Henry Artman of Chicago, sixteen
grandchildren and two great-grand-children.
The funeral services will occur
Wednesday morning at eight o'clock at
the St. Peter Claver Catholic church,
and will be followed by interment at
the North Side Catholic cemetery.
