Appleton Post Crescent
September 27, 2008

Rippl, Rosella P.

Rosella P. Rippl, of Menasha, WI, age 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 26, 2008. Rose was born August 11, 1918, in Birnamwood, WI, the daughter of the late August and Louisa (Zwirschitz) Westphal. She married the love of her life, Edward J. Rippl, on June 19, 1941, in Birnamwood, WI. Rose and Ed celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary shortly before his death in 2004. Rose was an avid golfer, and talked often and with much pride about her two hole-in-ones at Odana Hills Golf Course and another one at Glenway Golf Course during the time she and Ed lived in Madison, WI. Rose and Ed were snowbirds in their retirement years, and wintered for fifteen years in Arizona. More than anything, she loved to dance with her husband, and takes personal credit for bringing dancing back to the Madison Elks Club in the 70s and 80s. She also played a mean hand of poker.

Rose and Ed were lifelong members and patrons of St. Mary's Parish in Menasha, WI, where they lived while raising their children. St. Mary's Central High School was always very important to Ed and Rose, and for many years they have funded college scholarships for graduates of St. Mary's. Rose never graduated from high school herself but in her 90th year St. Mary's Central High School recognized the remarkable commitment she and Ed had made to Catholic education, and awarded her a diploma and the status of "honorary alumna".

Rose is survived by her two sons: Jim (Jeannie) Rippl, Beloit, WI; and Wayne (Jan) Rippl, Madison, WI; one sister, Theresa "Tressie" Rohlinger, Stevens Point, WI; and one sister-in-law, Delores "Chickie" Peterson, Menasha, WI. Roseis also survived by her five grandchildren: Tyson (Tori) Rippl, Heather Rippl, Heidi (Ben) Krenz, Dan (Lori) Rippl, and Scott (Christina) Rippl; and her six great-grandchildren: Sebastian, Nathan, Autumn Rose, Griffon, Gillian, and Gavin Wayne.

Funeral services for Rose will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, WI, beginning with visitation from 10-11:30 a.m., and followed by mass and a luncheon. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Menasha, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to St. Mary's Parish or to Hospice, Inc.

Martens-Laemmrich

Funeral Home

Menasha 920-722-8252

Light a candle for Evelyn

at: www.martens-laemmrichfuneralhome.com
Appleton Post Crescent
September 22, 2008

Spearbraker, Roy O.

Roy O. Spearbraker, 92, Clintonville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Greentreen Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville. Roy was born on March 22, 1916, in Marion, Wis., the son of the late John and Helen (Keller) Spearbraker. During his school years in Clintonville he worked as a grocery delivery boy for the Henry Laux Meat Market. Roy graduated from Clintonville High School in 1933. As a graduation gift from his uncles, Augie and Cecil Keller, Roy was taken on a six-week canoe trip into the Quetico Superior Boundary Waters bordering the United States and Canada. The trip into this primitive wilderness involved "living off the land" — you ate what you caught or trapped. In 1940, Roy owned and operated a gas station in Weyauwega. While in Weyauwega, he met and later married Eileen Fuerst of Waupaca. In November of 1941, he enlisted as a Cadet in the U.S. Army Air Force. Roy and Eileen were married October 17, 1942, in Oxnard, Calif. During World War II, he served with the 1262nd Air Transport Command in North Africa and the Middle East. After World War II, he and Eileen returned to Clintonville where Roy worked for Charlie Bockhaus in the Tog Shop until 1951 when he was called back to the Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he went back to the Tog Shop. He was a member of the Clintonville Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Post #63, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #664 of Clintonville. In 1961, he was appointed as the Northeast Wisconsin agent for the Equitable Life Assurance Society. He retired in 1979. Then, he and Eileen really enjoyed fishing, hunting, the operas, and other musical shows throughout the mid-west. They were always at each other's side. Since Eileen's death in 2003, Roy reflected, "She was everything. The past years without her are nothing."

Roy's attitude could be summed up as Frederick Remington quoted: "I never intend to do a great amount of labor. I have but one short life and I do not aspire to wealth nor fame in a degree which could only be obtained by an extraordinary effort on my part."

Survivors include distant nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen and his brother, James Spearbraker.

Gathering of friends and visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home, Clintonville, with Military Honors to follow at the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post # 63 and the V.F.W. Post # 664 of Clintonville. Condolences may be sent through www.eberhardtstevenson .com.
Kaminski, Pulaski, finished his final race on Sept. 15, 2008, surrounded by his devoted "crew" members.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and kid-at-heart.

He lived his 71 years passionately, with no regrets. Dad had the gift of making anyone he met feel like he was their best friend and genuinely believed hugs could change the world. He was an active member of the ultra running community. In 2007, after many attempts, Dad fulfilled his lifelong goal of completing a 100-mile ultra marathon.

He passionately believed in the power of the rosary and its strength in supporting the lives of unborn babies. When he wasn't running, Richard and Mary Ann loved spending time with their seven adult children. Over the years, they enjoyed many adventures together such as hiking the Grand Canyon, walking the sandy shores of Daytona Beach, and numerous road trips traveling across the U.S. He was a proud 23-year member of the 218-Club.

A piece of our hearts was forever taken on Monday night as Dad began his new journey. His life's goal was to transition from being a father to being a friend to his children. It is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to our Dad, who is to each of us a best friend. Dad, you succeeded.

In addition to his wife, survivors include seven children, David, Dan (Stacie), Dennis (Laura), Douglas, Dale (fiancee, Erin), Donna (Brian) Pierquet, and Doreen (Steve) Dudek; seven grandchildren, Cassie, Lindsey, Madelyn, Kyle, Lauren, Katie, and Jack; one brother, Donald (Diane); a niece, Kari and a nephew, Ken.

Friends may call at Assumption B.V.M. Church, Pulaski after 3 p.m. Friday. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Friday, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M. presiding. Committal will take place in the Kunesh Cemetery. Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and everyone who expressed their care and concern.

Online Condolences may be expressed at www.marnochafuneralhome.com.
Lakeview School - Bonduel

Shawano Leader
Monday, September 15, 2008
Former Lakeview School students reunite

By Donna Hobscheid, Leader Reporter
BONDUEL — Some of them may not have seen each other in 50 years, but you couldn’t tell that at the reunion of Lakeview School students Saturday at Village Park in Bonduel.

The one-room school on County Road E closed in the spring of 1958 and the building is long gone, replaced now by a horse farm.

Those at the reunion looked over pictures and told stories.

Bev Echtner, who coordinated the event, remembered the plays they used to put on and the focus on perfect swirls in their handwriting.

The restroom was the outhouse away from the school and water came from a ceramic bubbler.

Several including Jane Gueller Rank talked about the great tobogganing hill across the street they enjoyed in the winters.

Several members of the Berton family were there. Six siblings had been at the school at one time.

Jeffry Berton said he remembered the softball games, sledding on the hill and field trips outdoors to get items for art projects.

“The teacher used to take the whole class out in the woods and we would make a scrapbook with leaves and bark,” he said.

The teacher would work with one grade at a time in the front of the room, while others worked quietly on their assignments or listened in on the other class’ lesson.

His sister Patty Berton Boulanger said she remembered the outhouses and that it was cold in the winter.

Marsha Berton Davis remembered the Valentines Day post office.

“I learned a lot there,” Davis said.

George Weisnicht, who was there in the mid 1930s, said the teacher was strict, taking a ruler to their fingers if the students didn’t behave.

Janice Buelow Luepke marveled over the control the teachers had over eight grades in the small school she and her twin sister Jane attended.

Echtner thought it was unique that the school produced three pastors: Leonard Buelow, who was there and gave the blessing at the lunch, Roy Krueger and Garth Lambie.

Dick Lambie, who graduated in 1950, remembered picking softball teams on the first day of 8th grade. His team did so well at recess they called for rematch after school. His brother was on the team and they did so well the teacher would not let them be on the same team after that.

“For the year I had 140 home runs,” Lambie said.

Ken Herm remembered tracing leaves they had found outside in the fall and coloring them in.

“That’s the kind of thing you remember,” he said.
