Glenn I. Hoffman, age 81 of Gresham, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Maple Lane Health Care Center in Shawano. Glenn was born on January 29, 1925 in Gresham, son of the late Alex and Selma (Heins) Hoffman. In 1942 he graduated from Gresham High School. On June 19, 1948 he was united in marriage to Shirley Hull of Bowler. Glenn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Gresham, which included priesthood service, working with young men in the scouting program, along with teaching and leading Sunday School services.
Glenn entered into the livestock and trucking industry with his father, Alex. Over the years his brothers joined the business which in now known as Hoffman Transit Co. of Gresham. Glenn and his brothers then entered into a business venture, which became Hoffman Wood Fiber in Tilleda.
In 1977 Glenn and Shirley purchased a dairy farm on Mission Lake of rural Gresham. Glenn continued dairy farming and trucking cattle until his retirement, where upon he moved to the Village of Gresham. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, visiting with friends, eating chocolate, and being at his lakeside farm.
Glenn was a recipient of the Shawano County Second Miler Award for community service in 1994. He also received the Outstanding Area Farmer Award in 1983 and the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award from the Gresham F.F.A. Glenn was manager of the Lyndhurst Shipping Association for many years, which was started by his father, Alex. He has left behind many stories and memories never to be forgotten by his family and friends who loved and enjoyed him over the years.
Glenn is survived by: his wife Shirley; along with 3 children, Dennis “Joe†(Andrea) of Shawano, Ginger (Art Collins) Brady of Gresham, Lonney (Michelle) of Gresham; 15 grandchildren, Jeremy (Amber) Hoffman, Angela (Jay) Koeller, Jed Hoffman, Amanda Hoffman, Jay Hoffman, Abbey Hoffman, Jeffrey (Jenny) Brady, Jamie Jo Brady, Jennifer Collins, Kyle Collins (step-grandchild), Blake Hoffman, Brent Hoffman, Courtney Hoffman, Hailey Hoffman, Michael (Amy) Creapeau (step-grandchild); and 5 great-grandchildren, Tanner Hoffman, Colton Hoffman, Nicole Koeller, Cody Koeller, and Maleea Creapeau (step great-grandchild). He is further survived by: 4 brothers and 1 sister to include, Evelyn Bohl of Gresham, Clyde “Ike†(Carol) of Gresham, Delbert “Bart†(Kathy) of Gresham, Sanford “Butch†(Mary Podzilni) of Shawano, Daniel (Sue) of Gresham; 4 sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Robert) Lepak of Shawano, Lois (Dennis) Blom of Appleton, Bonnie (Gary) De Witt of Milwaukee, Debra Hull of Shawano; along with 3 brothers-in-law, Donald (Donna) Hull of Sebring, FL, Allan Hull of Weatherford, TX, Lyle (Carol) Hull of Wittenberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by: his parents, 1 brother, Omer; 1 son-in-law, John “Buck†Brady; 1 brother-in-law, Alex Bohl; and 2 sisters-in-law, Carol M. Hoffman and Voni Hull.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gresham with the Bishop Patrick Pleshek officiating. Family and friends may call at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Friday from 5 until 8pm and at the church on Saturday after 10am until the time of the service.
