OBITUARY EXTRACTION:
NAME & ADDRESS:
George Elijah WHITEWING, age 84, Wittenberg, died on Thursday, April 3,2003, at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
BIRTH & PARENTS:
He was born on April 17,1919, in Wittenberg, the son of the late Eli and Florence (Boyce) WHITEWING.
EARLY YEARS & MARRIAGE:
In 1939, George was united in marriage to Violet BigThunder. She survives.
INTERESTS - EMPLOYMENT:
George was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. George worked in construction until his retirement.
He was former legislator, vice-president, and president of the Ho-Chunk Nation. In addition, he was also a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation enrollment committee, Ho-Chunk Nation Housing Board, and was especially proud of being the Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in 1940.
SURVIVORS:
In addition to his wife, Violet, George is survived by: his children, Gloria (WHITEWING) Visintin, Ona (WHITEWING) Garvin, Dallas WHITEWING, Georgiann (WHITEWING) Funmaker, Gary (Lori) WHITEWING, John (Pam) WHITEWING, Robert Whitewing; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends.
PRECEDED BY:
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by: a daughter, Lauren (WHITEWING) Leonard; three sisters, Ethel Weso, Catherine Greyhair, Caroline Stacy; one brother, Ray WHITEWING.
FUNERAL SERVICES AND BURIAL:
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in Wittenberg. Interment will be in the WHITEWING Family Cemetery.
Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home in Wittenberg is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
