Frederick "Fritz" Bartelt, age 99, of Meadow View of Bonduel, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Shawano.

Frederick was born May 6, 1901, in the Town of Washington, to the late Herman and Maria (Bahr) Bartelt. Fred and his brothers, Frank and Ed, and baby sister, Rose resided on a farm on Hwy. VV in Shawano County. In 1938, Fred married Margaret "Marge" Jensen. Fritz and Marge had two children, Judy and Tom. When on his own, he moved to the City of Shawano and in 1949 Fred and his family moved to a cottage on Washington Lake, where he remained to live for 30 plus years. For the past five years Fred resided at Meadow View of Bonduel. Throughout his working career, Fred farmed, worked for the Shawano County road department, acted as a sheriff's deputy and owned the 400 Bar in Shawano.

He is survived by: a daughter, Judy (Bartelt) Alford of Gillett; a son, Tom Bartelt of Gillett; four grandchildren, Tami Otto (Mike Bergner) of Pulcifer, Tina (Otto) Gipp (Jim) of Clintonville, Hamby Alford (Bert Loberger) of Gillett, Jesse Bartelt of Bonduel; six great-grandchildren, Chris Otto, Jesse and Heather Bergner, all of Pulcifer, Shannon Elertson, Jerome and Ashlee Gipp, all of Clintonville; a niece, Karen (Bartelt) Engelman of Newald; a nephew, Jim Bartelt of Brown Deer. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Margaret (Marge Jensen) Bartelt; his parents, Herman and Maria (Bahr) Bartelt; brothers, Frank and Ed Bartelt; a sister, Rose Nuhlicek; a sister-in-law, Ethel (Lemke) Bartelt.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at 1:00 p.m. at Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil with the Rev. Sarah Hartman officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.

Fred Bartelt
Born on May 6, 1901 in Shawano, Fred grew up on a farm and became a farmer as an adult. He married Margaret Jansen in 1934. He was a deputy for Shawano County for 60 years. Fred always enjoyed fishing and hunting and wants to be able work for as long as he can. He says, “Life is good; I’ve had fun. Even now my days are filled with many things. I have no complaints.”
