Frank P. Bowman
Frank P. Bowman, age 54, of Banning, Calif., formerly of Bowler, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 28, 2007, in Calif. as a result of injuries received in a car accident.
Frank was born on July 16, 1952, in Keshena, the son of Evelyn A. (McGee) Bowman and the late Quinton M. Bowman, Sr. After graduating from West Division High School in Milwaukee in 1970, he enlisted with the United States Army and served nine years during the Vietnam War. After his discharge in Aug. of 1978, Frank worked in the communications field and began to further his education. Soon he would be the Director of Social Services for the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe. After several years as the Director of Social Services, Frank was asked by Gov. Tommy Thompson to serve on the Advisory Committee for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program. Frank served as a councilman and Vice-Chairman for the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe. In late 2001, he became an advisor to the State of California and assisted in setting up the TANF Program in various locations in Southern California. On Aug. 27, 2005, he was united in marriage to Linda J. Brown. Frank was a member of the Gresham American Legion Post #390, The Mohican Veterans, and also a member of the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness.
Frank is survived by: his wife, Linda; his two sons, Timothy (Susan) Myers of Fla., Donald (Jennifer) Binon of Menominee Falls; three step-daughters, Crystal, Jazmine, Patricia; two step-sons, Clarence, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Brooke, Trent, Dakota; his mother, Evelyn Bowman of Bowler; and seven brothers and sisters, Prena Wollenhaup of Milwaukee, Quinton (Shirley) Bowman, Jr. of Bowler, Harold (Debra) Bowman of Cecil, Evelyn K. Bowman of Milwaukee, Keith (Karla) Bowman of Shawano, Stephanie (special friend Wayne Peters) Bowman of Bowler, Bertha (James) Shepard of Bowler; 23 nieces and nephews; and 20 great nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by: his father, Quinton; and his brother, John.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness with the Rev. Stephen Shriner officiating. Burial will be in the Stockbridge Indian Burial Grounds. Family and friends may call at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham, on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
