LaVon Leone Andrus

LaVon Leone Andrus, age 81, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2007, in Hudson.

She was the eldest of eight children born to George and Leona (Eggers) Schmidt in the Town of Seneca, on July 5, 1925. A former University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point alumna, she taught school in a number of Shawano County villages and towns. She was united in marriage to Leonard Andrus, son of Bernard and Elizabeth (Kort) Andrus. Together they enjoyed a successful family life on their award winning dairy farm. In recognition for LaVon’s many years of service as a General Leader in the Mattoon 4-H Club, she was awarded the Pearl Mounted Pin. She conducted the Heart and Cancer Fund Drives in the Town of Hutchins. She was a member of the Gresham Woman’s Club and past member of the North Wisconsin Genealogists. LaVon also served as a Trustee for the Roosevelt Cemetery Association. LaVon was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as Sunday school teacher, Relief Society President of the Lyndhurst and Antigo Branches, and Primary Counselor in the Wausau District. Her great love for the Savior was manifested through her actions in her daily life. She was patient, caring, giving and devoted to her family, students and to all those she met.

Survivors include: daughters, Kay (Henry) O’Connell of Spanish Fork, Utah, Jacqueline (Thomas) Mayr of Hudson, Michelle (Brian) Lindell of North Mankato, Minn.; sons, Gregg (Sandra) Andrus of Green Bay, Alan (Lori) Andrus of Birnamwood; son-in-law, James Aleson of Syracuse, Utah; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by: sisters, Carmen Thiex of Birnamwood, Marlea Schulz of Austin, Texas, Rose Churchill of Las Vegas, Nev., Constance (Austin) Newcomb of Ringle, Carol (Jack) Lowder of Dorena, Ore.; and brothers, George (Charlotte) Schmidt of Shawano, and Armond (Annette) Schmidt of Caroline. She was preceded in death by: her dear husband, Leonard of 56 years; beloved daughter, Carol Jean Aleson; and precious grandson Liam O’Connell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gresham, with Bishop Patrick Pleshek officiating. Burial will be in the Roosevelt Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
