Fred was born on December 14, 1911, in Crandon, WI, the last surviving child of 8 born to the late John William and Florence J. (Wines) Taylor.

Growing up, he attended schools in Wabeno & Tipler, and spent his early adulthood in Rhinelander, which he fondly called home. On September 10, 1938 in Crystal Falls, Michigan, Fred married Dorothy M. Laedtke, daughter of Fred & Emma (Blaese) Laedtke of Cecil. After their marriage, the couple resided in Rhinelander and later moved to Appleton. In 1954, Fred & Dorothy purchased land in the Town of Hartland, where Fred built their homestead and they raised their 4 children. His wife preceded him in death on July 20, 1975. In 1992, Fred relocated to Gresham, where he spent his remaining years.

Fred worked many jobs over his lifetime – including utility tree trimming, highway construction, municipal & school construction as well as being a machinist. Fred’s interests included playing baseball for the city leagues, genealogy and keeping up on current events. He taught himself to play several musical instruments, including the banjo and Hawaiian steel guitar. If he could hear a song, he could play it on his guitar and had regular “jamming sessions” with his brother Gene or friend Ray. His favorite artists included Chet Atkins, Patsy Cline, Hank Snow, Jim Reeves, and Red Foley.

Survivors include: his children, Constance Thornley of Centennial, CO, June Collins of Centennial, CO, Anne (Robert) Taylor-Czaplewski of Tolland, CT, and John (Sarah) Taylor of Shawano; his 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Timothy) Jones of Lakeland, FL, Jacqueline Rodat of Salt Lake City, UT, Roxanne (Jack) Sivadon of Atlanta, GA, Jodi Rodat and Jonathan Rodat of Gainesville, FL, Andrew and Caresse Collins of Centennial, CO, Cobi (Edmund) Burke of Taylorsville, UT, Robert (Kim) Czaplewski of Milwaukee, Ryan Czaplewski of Rockville, CT, Jeremy, Ben and Kristin Taylor of Shawano; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother-in-law, Alfred Laedtke of Appleton; 1 sister-in-law, Delores Laedtke of Shawano; many nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Raymond Alsteen of Antigo.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; 6 brothers and sister-in-laws, Francis Taylor (1954), John (Agnes) Taylor (1940), Joseph (Viola) Taylor (1993), Peter Taylor (1922), Ralph (Kate) Taylor (2004) and Eugene Taylor (1998); a sister, Ellen (George) Richardson (1997); and one granddaughter, Stephanie Rodat (1987).

Dad, your journey is just beginning and we’re sure you are having a great reunion with your family. Til we meet again…

NOTE: My father and I spent countless hours researching family history and visitng courthouses and cemeteries throughout Northeastern Wisconsin. His memories were a great resource and I tapped them often. Dad was unable to visit the Shawano GenWeb Project or the Shawano Message Boards as he was legally blind for the past 15 years -- he's finaly able to see the websites today. God-speed, Dad.
