Was there a WI census in 1875? If so, would someone with access mind looking for a Benjamin Bates or Benjamin Hoadley? My Benjamin Bates was born in 1860. Sometime after the 1870 census, and before the 1880 census, he was adopted by the Hoadley family. It may have been the Hoadley family living in Baraboo on the 1880 census. There are Hoadleys in Nebraska, too, and since he married in Nebraska in 1885, I might need to look there, but thought I'd start here with the 1875 if it exists.
