I might be able to help, as my great uncle married a Hansen (usually misspelled "Hanson" in records) who was born in 1888, but I'm confused by the information you're providing. If you can line it up for me, I might help.

If you can Tell me what you know about Person #1 and separately what you know about Person #2, including where/when born, lived, married, parents names spouses names. Maybe a timeline. Also, "Betty" is usually a nickname, so if you have evidence that it might be Beatha/Bertha/Beata, that might help, too.

I should have provided more info in my request. I have the death date (probabl from WI Death Index; and the burial place in Luther Valley Lutheran Church. The distance between the two counties (Rock and Trempealeau)causes me to question the validity of one of the unsourced "facts" given me.

Thus the request to see if she is indeed buried in Rock County (and associated information)....and the faint hope there was a note in a local newspaper about visitors who came to see family at time of death, etc.

lynda

Let's add that 1940 census mentioned. If you know the names of the parents of George or Helga, please add those. Parents' names appear on death records, so those names could lead you - and the forum - to a date and place of death for George and Helga. (In fact it could be difficult to identify them without that information.) Basically, add as much as you can about them. Thanks!

1940
Orfordville, Rock, Wisconsin
George Johnson	52 b abt 1888 Wisconsin
Helga Johnson	51 b abt 1889 Norway
Harol Johnson	60 daughter b Wisconsin

[Harol age 60 = Hazol age 20]

I have quite a bit of information on the Winston family from Evansville. Please e-mail me at RMontgomery@litewire.net if you want more information. Hopefully this is the Frank Winston you are searching:

Frank H. Winston attended the Evansville Seminary in 1867. He was the oldest son of Nelson and Eliza Parson Winston. He was a groomsman in the wedding of Charles F. Pullen to Eva Winston in 1873. He played in the Evansville Cornet Band until he moved to California in 1876. In 1884, he was mining and ranching in New Mexico.

Here is an article from the Evansville newspapers: The Well known firm of N. Winston & Sons of this place will begin closing out their stock of goods on Saturday next. They wish to use the money now invested in goods in New Mexico, where Mr. Frank Winston has been living for the past three years.
The Enterprise, December 2, 1884, Evansville, Wisconsin

Mr. Frank Winston of our firm started yesterday for his home in New Mexico. The closing out sale will be continued until all goods are sold or until stock is so reduced that it can be moved to New Mexico. You can save money by dealing with us as long as we have goods to sell. N. Winston & Son.

January 13, 1885, Enterprise, Evansville, Wisconsin

Mr. Frank Winston returned from New Mexico the first of the week; Mrs. Winston has been here some time. He will remain a month or more, and in that time will close out the remaining goods in store, or reduce the stock, so that he can pack the balance and take it along with him. This will close out the oldest and longest established merchantile concern in Evansville. The senior, Mr. Nelson Winston, has grown old in the business and now will give it over to his sons, who combine it with other business in the growing country of New Mexico, where better inducements are offered for their enterprise and thrift.
August 7, 1885, ? Evansville, Wisconsin

Mr. Frank Winston, so well known to all the old residents of this city is a member of the New Mexico legislature and is spending the week in Santa Fe.
January 28, 1899, The Badger, Evansville, Wisconsin

In 1901, at the time of his parent's 50th wedding anniversary, he and his wife were living in Fairview, N.M.

The Hon. Frank Winston, a grandson of the man who donated the land for the Seminary Campus, is a prominent merchant of New Mexico and has been to the legislature. “old students of the Seminary.
April 25, 1903, Badger, Evansville, Wisconsin

Frank Winston who has been visiting his brother, Fred Winston and other relatives in town, left this morning for Dakota to visit his brother George Winston.
July 2, 1912, “today’s Evansville News,” p. 6, col. 2, JWord has been received that Frank Winston formerly of this city, who has for several years been running a store at Fairbury, N. M. lost the store and contents by fire last Friday night.
January 4, 1923, Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin
anesville Daily Gazette, Janesville, Wisconsin

I also am researching the Wells family in Magnolia, Rock Co, Wisconsin....There are two Wells family lines living there at the same time.

James Wells was married to Catherine Silvernail -daughter of Nicholas O and Elizabeth Cole Sivernail. I can't determine when she died. James and Catherine had a daughter Rachel Ann who married Joseph Wyram REED and died young in Rock County wisconsin

James Married #2 Emma Claracy REED, widow of Charles DILLREE who previously had lived in Lockport, Niagara, New York and moved to Macomb county, Michigan. at the death of charles in 1862, Claracy/Emma moved to Magnolia, Rock County, Wisconsin with her two youngest children: Lewis Judson DILLREE b. Dec 1852, married Kittie Emily HESS and d. 30 May 1933 in Magnolia, Rock County Wisconsin

and perhaps
Caroline DILLREE born Abt. 1855 probably Michigan

I don't know how much that helps, but if you find where James/Catherine Silvernail/Claracy Emma reed are buried or when the two wives died, I'd be thrilled to hear from you.

The John McCarthy who died in 1906 is not my Grandfather - as my Grandfather's wife was named Johanna Leary and he had a son named Charles. Also he was born around 1827 Ireland.
I assume the John McCarthy who died in 1883 could be mine. No obituaries likely from that time.. Perhaps I can find a burial record, or a will.
Thanks to everyone for your help.
