Racine County Foxwell or Moyle Family? Photo help

I have a photo of an unknown family. They could be part of the Moyle or Foxwell families--or even James Family--who settled in Racine County in the early 1840s; some went elsewhere, Iowa, Far West, and other places, later. Has anyone ever seen these people?

(I attached a file; I can't tell if it's going to post.)

My grandmother, Nellie Hamilton Schaffer, was raised at Taylor Orphan Asylum in Racine. She later went back to work at Taylor Avenue Orphanage as Supervisor of girls. Does anyone have stories about the Orphanage back in the late 1800's? Also, if there is any stories about my Grandmother who worked there and retired in 1955? My grandmother's sister Alice and her two brothers, Bill and George were also at the orphanage. Nellie Hamilton Schaffer was born on May 20, 1879. She died in Racine Nov.24, 1981.

Frank's mother Anna CERNY (CERNA) arrived 1905 through Ellis Island with granddaughter Anna CERNA enroute to Frank in Racine. The elder Anna was 66 at the time and possibly also died in Racine. The younger Anna was my grandmother, who died 1961 in Michigan.

Anything further on this family, especially death dates or living relatives, most welcome. Thank you.

The Schmidts (no first names, sorry) were Margaret Kent's parents and were living with the Kents in 1879 according to the History of Racine and Kenosha Counties.

By the way, I have this book now and will do look ups for other people.

Thanks for your help, Laurel in Colorado.

Racine Off-year Census (1915) & City Directories

Does anyone know if there was an off-year census taken for Racine in 1915 and if there are any City Directories available for Racine for 1914/1915? If there is, how can I acquire information from these sources? I am trying to locate family descendants during that time period and what their occupations were.

I can't seem to locate any reference to these types of sources for the time period that I am interested in on any of the Racine history sites or the Racine Library site. That does not mean that it is not there, but only that I was unable to locate anything about them.

Can anyone help me locate the answers? Thank you for your time and effort.
Naturalization Papers for Racine residents

I'm trying to locate naturalization papers for Christian or Chris Johnson (perhaps Jensen). Christian was born 13 Nov 1872 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and died 13 Dec 1944 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, USA. The 1930 Census stated he was naturalized in 1888. I don't have a good listing for his residence at that time, only speculation that it was in Racine WI. Rumor has it he, and two brothers, Charlies and Nels came too America and settled in Racine. They all moved away later, but I don't have a good timeline. Can anyone help me? Are any of you researching 3 Johnson brothers? Where would I write in Racine for his naturalization papers?

I recently found a marriage notice in the Racine Daily Journal, published 12 May 1906, page 13 stating:
"It was announced today that on March 15 last, Miss Anna Rozensy and Mr. Lyle Parmeter of this city, were quietly united in marriage at Waukegan, Ill. It will be a surprise to the friends of the popular couple. Congratulations are now in order."
Lyle and Anna were actually married on on 14 Mar 1906 in Waukegan, Lake Co., IL. The marriage record calls her Anna Rose of Racine age 18 years, and Lyle's surname is given as PARMENTER. A notation on the page states "do not publish."

Lyle and Anna appear on the 1910 census in Racine, and in Detroit, MI in 1920. They were divorced at Detroit in 1924. I can find no record of Anna's parents. She was born about 1888/89 in Wisconsin.

This is a tough one for me.
So here are the facts if anyone can help me out.
This man was born in Demark, don't know where or when.

His children were scattered from home after his death in 1860 because their step-dad didn't like them after thier mother re-married.

All the children took the surname Casten.

Family records typed in 1963 say he served in the Danish army before immigrating.

They settled in Waterford, Racine, Wisconsin.

He was killed while digging a well at the age 35 when a stone bucket hauling dirt fell on his head.(Oct1860)

He married Marie Dorothy (Mary) Larson (19Apr1829)-(22Dec1885) in Denmark, dont know where or when.

She remaried Hans Helgesen in 1861, children took the surname Hanson.

Children with Casten:
Hannah (8Apr1853)-(8Dec1934)
Christopher (9Jun1854)-(21Mar1922)
Lars (Lewis) (25Dec1855)-(3Jun1940)
George (1859-1887)
Dorothy Marie (Mary) (27Dec1860)-(6Sep1925)
All the children were listed as born in Wisconsin.

This might seems like a wealth of infomation, but my problem is I cannot find any records of these people before the children are already in thier teens.(1870 Census with Hannah living at another house as a servent) Casten does not exsist on paper as far as I can find. Any help with this would be greatly appriciated!!
Does anyone have information on Richard and Margaret BROWN who are listed in the 1850 Census for Burlington? Richard is 58, b. VT and Margaret 56, b. NY.

I am searching for my elusive 2nd ggf, Richard Gibson Brown. I found a Richard and Margaret BROWN in the 1860 Census for Anderson, Mendocino, CA. They are living with Albert BRAYTON and family. Richard died soon after the census and is buried in Mendocino County. The BROWN and BRAYTON families have many connections through generations.

I only have a few years of his life documented (1840 - 1848)! His first son, Loammi Bryon b. 1840 Fairport, Muscatine, IA, m. Rebecca Moore 1844 Rock Island Co., IL, second son Benjamin Franklin b. 1844 Illinois City, IL, daughter Susan b. 1846 and son Richard Gibson b. 1848.

I can not find any of this family living in the same household in the 1850 census, but a Richard appears in Burlington, Racine, WI (the above mentioned).

thanks!

I am in need of any information concerning George Miller, born 1794 Orange County, Virginia and died 1856 Voree, Racine County, Wisconsin. He was associated with J.J. Strang and the group of Mormans who came to Voree after the 1846 exodus from Nauvoo. Was his wife Margaret Kite? Is there an obituary for him? Need family tree and connection to the Miller family in Boone county, Kentucky. He had a son who went to Texas after the exodus to the Common Stock Colony on the Pedernales and in 1847 George went after him, was this son named Reuben?
Or copy and scan it, and send via email for me? I was wondering what it said about him.
Ancestor's Robert and family arrived in America July 1841, at New York, from Ireland. By 1845, they took up residence at Dover, Racine Co. Wisconsin. Their children were:Robert Campbell born Ireland 1838; James A.Campbell born at sea (Atlantic Ocean)June 1841; Jeannie Campbell born 1846 Wisconsin; Samuel born 1849;Eliza 1853;John Campbell born 1856 Wisconsin.
James A. Campbell volunteered during the Civil War-1864 and mustered out 1864 with his company -Wisconsin.
Married Elizabeth Beardsley born 1846, New York. Her parents, Porter and Lydia (Patterson) removed from New York shortly after 1850 to Wabasha County, Minnesota where they remained to the end.
Robert is shown on the 1850 Federal census at Racine, Wisconsin with wife's name shown as Ellen.
Again on the 1860 census, wife's name is shown as Ann.
I would like to know if there are other descendants, and if anyone can explain the reason for difference in wife's name. What happened to Robert Campbell following the 1860 census ?
Son Robert Jr and wife, Rosa, with sister Jeannie Campbell are next shown on the 1870 census at Chicago, Ill.
Adoption records/ info on Wilhem Busack (born 1868 or 1869 in Prussia) being adopted into Henning Family

My GG Grandfather was Wilhelm Busack (I have Lutheran Church Records of him being confirmed in Burlington Wisconsin, Racine County under this name in 1883)but he was adopted by the Henning Family and named Frank Henning. I have no idea when the adoption took place.
I believe I found his original family...on the 1870 Census Records for Spring Prairie, Walworth County, showing Mary Busack born in Prussia about 1802 (without occupation), Eliza Busack born in Prussia about 1835 (without occupation), brother John born in Prussia about 1859 and then Willie, age 2, born around 1868.
There was NO father listed and the age of "Willie" matches up with my GG-Grandfather. How can I prove this was his family or find this adoption record? Whatever happened to the rest of his "Busack" family?
Willie was born on a ship arriving in New York and I cannot find that ship that they came in on either?
There is a disease in that side of my family and I would like to decipher where it is coming from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jayne

I am looking for any information on the parents of ABRAM EVELAND born 27 Aug 1806 in Oxford, NJ, who married Alymra Chapel who is from Canada. I can find much information about these two, except for Abram's parents. Family rumor has it that Fredrick Eveland was his dad, but I can find no proof (i.e. birth records or even census records) that show Abram's parents. Please help! (PS I have seen Wayne V Jones' Book and he never mentions an Abram or Abraham born in 1806 (or even close). Fredrick evidently had as many as 14 children, but some of those names have been forgotten and lost. Is my ggg-grandfather one of those lost names?
Thanks for any help.
I am trying to obtain the death date and obituary of Hon. Lucius Sawyer Blake of Racine, Wisconsin. He was a very prominent pioneer of Racine, at one time being the largest real estate holder in Racine. He was born on March 14, 1816 and was alive as late as 1870 when he was a member of the legislature. His wife was an "English lady", by the maiden name of Caroline Elliott. His father was Levi Blake and mother Polly/Mary Sanford Blake. His father was an early treasurer of Racine County. He had several brothers, who were also prominent men of Wisconsin including; Charles Hilton "Hilton" Blake m. Laura Kimball; Edward Sanford Blake m. 1) Jan Ford and 2) R. Anna Phillips; Albert H. Blake m. Margaret Logan. I'd be interested in the death dates and obits of any of the above mentioned people.

Thanks,
Annette Klosner Hoskins

Does anyone have an online list of this cemetery? My 3rd Great Grandfather, (Jens Eriksen, - Jens Jensen in the cemetery) is buried there. I think several of his sons, Ole Johnson, Edward Johnson, and John Johnson all lived there and I would like to know if they are buried there also. I have contacted the church, but that has been unsuccessful so far. Thanks.

I am looking for a marriage record for my g-g-grandparents. They came from Denmark in May 1872 and immigrated to Racine, WI the same year. They were not married when they arrived to the USA and had their first child in 1875. Married sometime between May 1872 through 1875

Names:

Iver Jorgensen b. Feb 24 1841 - Denmark
Sorine Frederica "Kjaer" Sorensen b. 30 Nov 1844 - Denmark

The were both living in Polk County, WI in 1880 but Polk County has no marriage records for Iver and Sorine so my next best guess would be Racine.

Thanks you,
Brian Jorgenson

Racine Churches Built by George Zirbes

George Zirbes, born 1848 in the German village of Uedersdorf (district of Daun), was a contractor and builder in Racine in the late 1800s. Among the public buildings he erected were St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Church of the Holy Name, the chapel at St. Catherine's Academy and the additions to St. Joseph's Church. A biography of Mr. Zirbes can be found in Portrait and Biographical Album of Racine and Kenosha Counties, Wisconsin (Chicago: Lake City Publishing Co. 1892), p. 342.

A German gentleman named Friedbert Wisskirchen writes articles on the history of the district of Daun, including articles on emigrants who left that area and settled in the United States. He is compiling biographical sketches on George Zirbes and members of his family to be included in a book to be published in July. He would like to get into contact with anyone who may have pictures and information on the churches that George Zirbes built. If anyone has additional information these churches or Mr. Zirbes himself, feel free to email Mr. Wisskirchen at Friedbert.Wisskirchen@vgv.daun.de. He has asked me to post this message because his English skills are a little rusty. Feel free also to email me any information and I will forward it to Mr. Wisskirchen. Thanks in advance.

Michael

David G. Starkweather

Death of David G. Starkweather

Our community was startled Friday morning last at the sudden and unexpected announcement of the death of Mr. D. G. Starkweather, the day telegraph operator at this place.

He had complained during the previous day of not feeling quite as well as usual, and applied to Dr. Beebe for medicine, for dyspesia, and as no examination was made, neither himself nor the Dr. apprehended any serious consequences arising from his complaint. He was boarding at Hon. L. T. Pullen's and roomed with three others, viz. D. C. Waldo, P. C. Wilder and Geo. L. Pullen. During the early part of the night he took his medicine as prescribed; at 11 o'clock he got up, blew out the light, and retired again. He seemed to lie quietly, and slept until about 3:10 a.m., when he awoke with considerable pain in his breast, and commenced rubbing himself; he immediately arouse his room mates, who came to his assistance, one of them going for the Dr., while the others, assisted by Mr. Pullen's people, did what they could to relieve his suffering. An instant before his death he said, "There, the pain has left me: Mr. Pullen replying, "I'm afraid it will return again;" David said, "It has staid away longer this time than it has before since it commenced." He then sank back gradually like one fainting, and immediately expired, without a groan or struggle, just as the Dr. arrived.

His disease was paralysis of the heart.

Mr. Starkweather was 23 years of age, came here about a year and a half ago, from Lodi, Wis. He had acquired a good many friends--we may say, infact, had no enemies, for all who knew him early confided in his friendship. He was a member of the Evansville band, and he held the office of secretary.

His parents reside in Racine--has a sister in Ohio, the only one left of the family. His father was telegraphed to at Minneapolis, and his uncle at Kenosha; the latter came as far as Hanover Junction Friday, and turned back to Beloit, to await the arrival of the body.

Episcopal services were held by Rev. Mr. Green at Mr. Pullen's house, and the remains immediately taken to Racine, accompanied by Mr. Clarence Waldo, and Mr. Geo. D. Potter, R. R. Agent.

His body was first placed in a refrigerator, and afterwards embalmed by Dr. D. C. Griswold.

The band did everything for him that could have been done by friends. They encoffined his remains, and preceded by the pall bearers and hearse, marched with a silent tread to the depot, the Episcopal bell meanwhile tolling the mournful dirge of death.

The procession was composed of a large number of citizens, all bearing a depth of sadness that told the loss of an estimable young man, whom circumstances had thrown among us.

The Band Hall was appropriately draped in mourning from respect to their deceased member, and the band will pass resolutions of condolence for their loss.

May 30, 1877, The Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin

We looking for information on Elisha and Nelson Bristol. Elisha was born in 1775 in Connecticut and subsequently lived in Canada and Illinois before moving to Racine County where he appears on the 1850 census as living with his son, Nelson Bristol's family. Nelson was born around 1815-1820 in Canada and lived until at least 1880 (at which point he is found living near Green Bay with his son, William Bristol's family. We found information posted online that Elisha passed away in 1859 in Racine County and that his wife Jane passed away in 1849-1850 in Racine County but have not been able to verify it or contact the person who posted that information on a chat site.

Any information would be appreciated.
This is my Great Grandmother, she married Carl Andersen. I have not been able to find anything about her family. All I know is that she appears to have emmigrated around 1905 from Denmark and she had a brother named Anton. I found her on the Danish website signing up for the trip and I found her at Ellis Island, but that's it. If anyone knows who her parents are or has any more info please pass it on.
