In the late 40's my parents were divorced and my oldest brother went to live with my father. I was the youngest of 3 sons and my next oldest brother and I were sent to Taylor Home. My mother having been a housewife and had no job went to live with her mother until she could find one.
I remeber the tears when we were dropped off.
But, we got used to it and spent the next 2 years there.
I have nothing but good memories about the Home.
It was a working farm and we raised chickens, grew corn and shucked it for chicken feed. Grew potatoes and harvested them also.
The people who supervised were never purposely mean as far as I can remember. I remember sitting for the longest time with a bowl of Onion soup in front of me. Ha!Ha!
Some memorable names were Miss Crossfield (she always wore a wrist band) and Miss Fortner ( she used to take us in a woody station wagon to Kenosha to swim at the mouth of the Pike River). It was were I learned how to swim. Anyone else remember, let me know.
