J.W. Klema, Sr. Dies Thursday - Kenosha News, Friday, November 11, 1960
Chiropractor John W. Klema, Sr., D.C., 76, died at his home at 6340-8th Ave., Thursday afternoon following an illness of five months duration.
He was born in Racine County on July 28, 1884, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin M. Klema. He attended Racine schools and graduated from the Palmer School Chiropractic School at Davenport, Ia.; the Lincoln Chiropractic College of Indianapolis, Ind., and the National College of Chiropractic of Chicago.
In 1914, he moved to Kenosha and was prominent in chiropractic work here for 46 years. His first office was opened in 1914 in the Isermann Bldg.
On July 28, 1917, he married Miss Lily M. Mortensen.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Kenosha Lodge No. 47, F.&A.M.; Kenosha Commandery No. 30, Knights Templar; Wisconsin Consistory, AA. S.R.; Tripoli Shrine of Milwaukee; Kenosha Shrine Club, Kenosha Chapter No. 3 R.A.M.; past president of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association; charter member of National Chiropractic Association, Congregational Men's Club and the Kenosha Country Conservation Club.
Survivors include his wife, a son, John W. Klema Jr.; a daughter, Dorothea C. Klema Bass, D.C., of Kenosha; three brothers, Charles A., Martin E., and Irving G., of Racine; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Schlevensky and Mrs. MAry Chernohorsky, both of Racine, and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Lilly M. Klema, 82, 3535-100th St., died at her home this morning.
She was born in Thompsonville, Racine County, on June 8, 1892, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M.O. Mortensen, and attended Racine County schools.
On July 28, 1917, at Franksville, she married Dr. John W. Klema, Sr., D.C., who died on Nov. 10, 1960. They had resided in Kenosha since their marriage.
Mrs. Klema was a member of the First Congregational church, the O.E.S. Kenosha Chapter 92, and Kenosha Chapter 264 fo the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors are a son, Dr. John W. Klema, Jr., D.O., and Dorothea C. Klema Bass, both of Kenosha; four grandchildren, and a sister, Miss Elsa M. Mortensen, Racine.
Mrs. Klema was preceded in death by a brother, Jens Christian Mortensen, and by a sister in infancy.
