Thank you, s_siegmund, for finding the case report regarding the conviction of John Ogden as being an accessory to arson and the subsequent reversal of the conviction.

After conducting more research on him and his wife, Melissa (sometimes spelled Malissa), I'm pretty sure he is the John Ogden who was the son of Abram and Mary (Polly) Smith Cottrell Ogden who settled in Dane Co. and the brother of Judge Caleb Smith Ogden, Waupaca Co. I found an 1860 Stockton Township, Portage Co., Wis. census record for Melissa Ogden (married, but husband not listed) and 3 children (all with the names of their oldest 3 children), which I believe is the record for "my" John Ogden's family. The date of the Stockton Township census record was at a time when John Ogden was serving time at the State Prison at Waupun, when I found him listed as an inmate.

Thank you for taking the time to conduct the research.

Sincerely -
Jean E. DeLauche
