Karl E SCHENK, 84, Green Bay, a Stevens Point native, died Thursday night at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tomah following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday at the Boston Funeral Home with Rev John MUNSON of Frame Memorial Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park in the town of Grand Rapids.
Mr SCHENK was born in Stevens Point, May 20, 1894, to Mr. and Mrs Charles SCHENK, and was a graduate of Stevens Point High School. He entered the Army on April 4, 1917, and served in the American Expeditionary Force in France and Germany during World War I with Battery E, 120th Field Artillery, 32nd Division, and was discharged May 17, 1919, as a sargeant.
He returned to Stevens Point and worked in McCulloch's Drug Store for several years and then for a short time for Pagel Milling Co. On Dec 19, 1923, he joined Hardware Mutuals as an accountant and served in Stevens Point in accounting, finance and office management. In 1948 he moved to Glendale, CA and became the South Pacific District general sales manager with headquarters in Los Angeles. That office was later moved to Santa Barbara and in 1955 SCHENK returned to Stevens Point, serving as senior casualty underwriter until his retirement in 1959.
He was a charter member of Berens-Scribner Post No 6, a member and honorary director of the Bill Cook chapter of the Izaak Walton League, and a member of the American Legion, Portage County Barracks 1782, Veterans of World War I, B P O Elks Lodge 641, and Evergreen Lodge 93, F & A. Masons.
He was married to the former Oral Leone ALBRIGHT in New London in 1920 and she died in 1956. In 1972 he was married to the former Eleanor PAHR in St Germaine. The couple lived in Green Bay.
Survivors include his second wife; three sons, John, Moscow, Idaho, Karl Jr, Wichita, KS, and David, Waupaca; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
