POW/MIA Korean War, Oneida Co. LUNDBERG

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Oneida County, Wisconsin as his home of record.

Soldier: KENNETH LUNDBERG
Born: 1930
Date of loss: July 31, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 36 families from Wisconsin that have not been located. There are one family from Oneida County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (78 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Fred Seidel 1883-1950 Wife Emma Neumann 1883-1951 Rhinelander, WI

I am seeking descendants of Fred and Emma Neumann-Seidel. You may have information on Ludwig Lick B: 1877 or 1879 & Died Unknown. Ludwig was married to Emma's sister Ernestine Neumann who remained in Germany. He came alone to the USA in 1909 as Ludwig Lyk with Rhinelander, WI as his destination and his next of kin was his wife identified as Ernestine on the ships manifesto. By the 1910 census, he is in Rhinelander, WI living with Fred and Emma and is identified as Fred's brother-in-law. By 1918 Ludwig is in Appleton, WI and Fred is again identified as Ludwig's brother-in-law in Ludwig's WW 1 registration. In 1930 Ludwig is in Kaukauna, WI in that census. I have been unable to find Ludwig in the Outagamie County death records nor in the Wisconsin death records. I am researching Ludwig for his great grandsons from Germany who wish to know when & where he died and if there is a grave they can visit. Thank you in advance to helping me find 'this piece of the puzzle' or any of the Ludwig Lick puzzle pieces.

Hello!! Would someone on this list mind doing a marriage look-up for me please?

Henry G. McDonald to Elizabeth McLeod, married on 16 March 1892, Rhinelander, Oneida. I live in Sudbury, Canada and do not have easy access to US records. I have found their marriage on Ancestry, Wisconsin Marriages, pre-1907, Volume 01, Page 0036; however, no image is available for download.

I am also looking for Elizabeth's death registration -- I don't know her death date, but know she was alive in 1930 as she appeared on that census in Merrill, Lincoln, Wisconsin. She was born in 1869 in Peel County, Ontario. I would also like assistance with this please.

Please contact me at l.heron@sympatico.ca if you can do these look-ups for me! Thanks so much!!

Alledgely, there is supposed to be a biography on him in a history of Oneida County, however, I have not been able to find it. His first wife was Louise Wilhelmine Krueger. He had 5 children - Ella, Walter C, Milton H, and Sean. The fifth was born and died between 1900 and 1910. I believe he had a second wife by the name of Jessie. Any information is appreciated!

Prior to 1895, Martha Wentzel or Wenzel was married to a Mr. Pulzer/Tulzer, hard to read the marriage license. Then she was married to a William Henry Barefoot in April 1896 in Pelican Lake, Forest County, Wisconsin now Schoepke Township in Oneida County, Wisconsin. In November 1898, she married Joseph Gauthier, son of Adolph Gauthier and Marie Teresa Jadin, in Pelican Lake. The Gauthiers came from Casco, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. A son Patrick, who married a Frances Bergeon, and a daughter Mabel, the future Mrs. Evan Johns, came prior to her marriage to Joseph Gauthier. Joseph Gauthier committed suicide on Christmas Day 1921. Martha Gauthier, birthplace Germany, died in March 1943 and is buried at St. Mary's in Rhinelander. She was the daughter of Carl and Wilhelmina Wentzel/Wenzel. Would like to know where in Germany these Wenztels or Wenzels came from and to where in Wisconsin they settled prior to Martha's residency in Oneida County.

The Eagle River Genealogical Society has been asked by the local veterans office to try and locate living relatives of a Samuel Odell. Company E 87th New York infantry Army.
He is buried in the Eagle River, Vilas Co.Wi.Cemetery next to his wife. Mrs. odell.
The record the veterans office has was recorded August 15, 1936. This is not necessarily a death date. The cemetery records do not indicate when he was buried.
They need a relative to request a military marker for his grave.
So far we have had no success.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than posting on the Odell board
and Eagle River, Wisconsin and surrounding counties boards?

Lorene Schertzl
Eagle River Genealogical Society

My great Grandparents owned a hotel in Pratt Juction Wisconsin back in 1880's and 1890's. The hotel was called the Rice Hotel. The town is now just memory. I do own the property where the hotel once stood. I am looking for any and all information on Pratt Junction. If you have any photos or stories of Pratt Junction, please get in touch with me a Ricer@putzam.com.

I'm looking for relations of Elmer Taylor Schumann. He was a sailor during WWII and listed his hometown as Tripoli, WI. He entered service from MO. He was aboard the sub the USS Grunion when she disappeared on her maiden voyage in the Aleutians. It was last heard from in July 1942. the families weren't notified for about 2 months (for my own ancestor on the sub it came out in the papers on Sept 30 and Oct 1, 1942). Apparently they weren't declared dead until Aug 2, 1943. 70 men died on the submarine and nothing was ever known of it's possible fate until recently. Now a search will soon be underway to find it by the sons of the commander. I heard from them 2 weeks ago and have joined the search underway to see if I can find others related to the sailors who died as I think it is exciting! I would also appreciate any leads on relatives of this man.

Hi- I'm a teacher in Land O' Lakes, and I'm currently excavating a homestead from the 1880s that I believe belonged to Edmund S. Anderson, who during the 1890s apparently operated a wagon and sleigh manufacturing shop in Rhinelander with his brother, Edwin Anderson. If anybody out there has any info on the Anderson brothers or photos of the Anderson brothers, please let me know. We've got an exciting project going up here, and we'd love to get new information on the Andersons. Paul

Looking for info on a Shernice Stuart Parker Towne. Her sister lived in Rhinelander until her death earlier this year, so I think that maybe Shernice did also, they are reported as being very close. I know where the sister is buried, but can not find an obit or any info or dates for Shernice. We knew she had been a widow of a Parker, but did not know that she had possibly remarried to a Unk Towne. She is supposed to have passed away some time in the last couple of months of this year. Can anyone check for her obit, or let me know where she is buried and if she is with this unk Towne, so that I can add his name to our family file. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

I was born in Merrill, but lived in Hazelhurst, My grandparents were Edward and Alice Kucera from Hazelhurst. My mother was Joyce Kucera Berndt. I believe that my great grand parents were Anton and Katherine Kucera. I remember as a young girl going to Lakeside Cemetery ....at sleep. There were many Kucera head stones and I think there were Berrend head stones too. Berrend was my great grandmothers maiden name. any info on these would be helpful, I believe they were bothers of my great grandfather. Anton Kucera immigrated in 1888 and there were quite a few other Kucera's on the ship with him.

Thanks

The book belonged to Bill Mc Laughlin or "Moose" who was a senior on the football team and was heading to Minnesota University after graduation. The yearbook has seen better days, half of the pages are loose and Bill cut the 2 pictures of himself out. The seniors have separate pictures but the Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen each have group pictures. Looks like it could be "Miller" or "Milles?" Address listed as 72 "New Rhinelander Road." Sugar Camp. I am interested in getting the correct surname. My interest centers around learning more about Grace McQueen - who doesn't appear on the 1920 Census.

If you're interested, the details are at the following link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/index.html

Here is the Oneida County link:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/wisconsin/oneida.htm

This is a great summer project.

I am trying to "put together" the family of Hugh McIndoe (born 1830 in Scotland and died 1881 in Wausau, Wisconsin). Members of his family came to the Rhinelander area. His family members were: Walter, Thomas, Hugh John B. Charles and Archibald. I am also looking for information on Hugh's wife (and mother of the above listed children), Catherine L. McIndoe. She apparently died in 1921 in Rhinelander. I don't have her maiden name or any other information about her
Sue Anne B.

I am looking for the Harry O. Bowman family that had a bar in Mincqua in the 40's or 50's. Harry was married twice (not sure which order) to a Kathryn and a Marletta (or Marlette). I know he had a son Todd and possibly a son Hal. One moved to Arizona. Harry and wife Marlette used to spend the winter in Florida. I know he went blind and then he committed suicide shortly after that. I do not know where he is buried though. He was a resident of Townsend, WI prior to Minocqua and had a brother, Lewis, and Albert (that was living in Cleveland when his brother Lewis died) and also a brother Jesse that died at 2 yrs. old. Harry also had 10 half brothers and sisters. The family came from Indiana to Chicago to Townsend, WI.

Does anyone know any information on this, or perhaps someone from the area remember the bar? My family can only remember that it was on a main street corner and they just called it Harry's Bar (whether that was the actual name or not, I do not know. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Need advice regarding death record - Leonard Smith

My great-uncle, Leonard Smith, died Feb 9, 1952 and was buried at Wood National Cemetery on Feb 13, 1952. He has been a very elusive member of my mother's family! I wrote to the State to request a death record, and although they found him in the indexes and searched both Milwaukee and Oneida County films, they were unable to locate a death record. Oneida County, as possibly his last residence, was unable to locate a record either. I have contacted the library at Rhinelander to see if there might be an obituary, but have not heard back yet. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other avenues I might pursue? I have tried to get his records from the Veterans Administration, but without a social security number, they cannot help me. Would the VA medical center provide any information, or could there be a local funeral home which may have handled the burial? I am at a loss as to where to search next! Thank you for any advice or direction anyone could give me.
