Thank you both so much! I feel like I just struck
gold. I'll add this to my accumulating information
for them. Sadly, Margaret only lived three or four
years after their marriage. I'm most grateful for
your help.

Their immediate destiuaion
was purposely shrouded in mystery,
in order that no memento of their
recent union might follow them. It
vas given out, however, that they
would be "at home" at Milwaukee
after June 1st.

They
were still alive and he was is his 70's in the 1940
census. Could anyone help me with this? Can't find him
in Find A Grave either, so don't know where he was buried.
He was born and raised in Chilton. Thanks! Theresa Kersten

Okay, here are some more hints. I figure maybe Sally's Mom got remarried, or for some other reason, she had a different last name in the census. I cannot find James in the census prior to 1940 either.
So, this is perhaps her husband Robert in 1940, notice he is listed as widowed with a son, Robert Jr.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KQLZ-DJX

This may be the son in 1930, living with a "Taddis" family
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X7HV-Z9G

Here is Robert sr.'s first marriage
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FFR3-LPJ

Here is Sally's obituary
DUNKIRK EVENING OBSERVER JULY 20, 1959 PAGE 4

Heart Attack
Is Fatal to
Mrs. Baumgartner
Mrs. Sally Van Trady Baumgartner,
45, of 29 Seel street, Dunkirk,
died at her home Sunday
evening. The emergency t r u c k
was called at 10:25 p.m., and oxygen
was administered but Mrs.
Baumgartner was already dead of
of a heart attack.
The wife of Robert E. She
lived in Chicago for a time and
had been a resident of Dunkirk
for the past 17 years.
Mrs. Baumgartner attended
Grace Lutheran church.
Surviving are Mr. Baumgartner,
a daughter, Miss Roberta M.
Baumgartner, and a brother,
James Van Trady, of Chicago.

This is just for fun!

DUNKIRK EVENING OBSERVER MARCH 9, 1959 PAGE 8
Birthdays Celebrated
Roberta Baumgartner was honored
Saturday afternoon when her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Baumgartner, 29 Seel street, entertained
a group of HEr friends at
a birthday party.
Yes, I have a copy of her birth certificate. She married Robert Baumgartner in the 1940's, lived in Dunkirk, Chautauqua, NY and went by the name of Sally instead of Salome. They had 2 children. The daughter is the person that I am doing this research for. She would like to know more about her mother and the Van Trady family. Sally (Salome) died July 19, 1959 and is buried in Fredonia, Chautauqua, NY. Salome also had a brother James Van Trady born in 1905. Her birth certificate is from County of Marinette, City of Marinette, Wisconsin 27 May 1914. Her parents are Bernard Van Trady birthplace Alsace Lorraine and he was an Architect, her mother was Marie Montay, birthplace Rennis, France. The strange thing about this birth certificate is that on the bottom. Mrs. M.C. Korday, listed as Maternal Aunt duly sworn deposes and says that the birth of this child took place on 27 May 1914 and it was subscribed and sworn on 1 Nov, 1940 with a public notary signature. I cannot find anything on census to show where the Van Trady family lived in the US or even when they came over to the US. Do you have any other information. I would appreciate sharing anything with you. You can contact me by the same e-mail address: sdietz@roadrunner.com
Sue Dietzen

I thank you for updating this information. I have been researching the Phillips family that is buried in Harmony Cemetery. My children are descendants of Gareld and Magdalena Phillips (they are my children's great grandparents). By you updating this information, you have helped me out immensely. Thanks again!
Marriage record lookup please? BORTHS/BIRKHOLZ

Hello,

I need to find an exact date for my ancestors' marriage. According to an obit, they were married in 1910 in Marinette, WI. Their names are Maria/Louise BIRKHOLZ (this was a second marriage, so that was her married name; maiden name was GOETTING) and John BORTHS. This was also his second marriage. They didn't live in the area; they came from Manitowoc to get married.

Would love it if someone could track down the full date or locate the record and transcribe the information for me. Pretty please!

Or, does anyone know of any online indexes I might be able to find this information? The only Wisconsin ones I can find don't cover this year.

Thanks!

Re: St. Anthony Catholic Church in Marinette, WI

>>Question 1. Does St. Anthony's still exist <<

google says yes, it still exists.

>>Question 2. Is it possible to get a copy of Henry's membership records to these societies?<<

That depends on what records this parish archived. Since these were not sacramental records, they might not have been a priority for the parish to keep. Only they can tell you.

>>I'm wondering if his place of birth might be listed as we have no idea where his home parish was in Germany.<<

Was he married in a Catholic Church in Wisconsin? Depending on the priest, marriage records could have good detail, including naming the home parish of the participants.

Was he naturalized? If so, his declaration of intent might have the name of the town/city he was from. Did he have other family that immigrated? Researching associated family members can help you find clues to your direct line.

My great-grandfather, J. HENRY PAULS, was a member of Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Marinette in the 1920's and 1930's. He died 4 Mar 1932 in Marinette.

Question 1. Does St. Anthony's still exist or has it been consolidated with another parish? If it has been consolidated; what is it's present name?

Question 2. Is it possible to get a copy of Henry's membership records to these societies? This grandfather is a tough one to research. I'm wondering if his place of birth might be listed as we have no idea where his home parish was in Germany.

Question 3. Who would I contact to find this information?

Any help would be appreciated.
There was a Destiche on the front page of the Green Bay Press Gazette newspaper! A teenager for wrestling! I believe some of this family has remained in the area! He goes to Luxemburg Casco schools, and is in the WIAA state individual wrestling tournament! How cool is that!? Spelled Destiche! I live nearly on top of the area many of these people lived back in the late 1800's and earlier 1900's! Do you have a tree set up? Invite me, if so!

You are right about Matilda. I THINK she married an older man (LeBeau) at age 11 or 14 and had two boys. The older boy kept the name LeBaau and later moved to Longview, Washington and opened a Chrysler dealership. William Distash married Rose and had three children - Verna, Lois and Jean.
Where do you live? I am on Long Island NY now but was born and grew up in Detroit MI. where Matilda married Joseph Lesperance. Joseph Leaperance adopted my mother. I think Louis/Lewis had adopted her before.
I cannot recall if I had sent an invite to you or you to me or not? I don't have a full membership, so I am blocked in viewing trees without an invite! I do have Louis as in Menomonee and marrying a Mattilda, but I don't think I have anything of the LeBeau connection. I have her being from Belgium, and born in 1871, but no other concrete information. Is that correct?

This is my 'grandmother.' Couldn't remember the name Menomonee. She was born LaCourt in Belgium, married LeBeau very young, had two boys (Arthur and William) and then married Louis/Lewis Distash in Menomonee MI. They moved to Mobridge, SD. William took the name Distash. Both boys were quite a bit older than my mother. (This is why William may be my mother's father.) Don't think I will ever know for sure.
Lois

Confusing? Yes, it sure is! Seems you have it somewhat figured out, but wow, sometimes it is surprising how complicated things/relationships and such were 100 or more years ago! So, is/was Matilda a Destish or Destash or a Lacourt, originally?

I have read, and have been told numurous times to not worry if names are spelled a bit differently, as there are many reasons for that..some of which, may or may not make them the same person/family and so on.

The Destache's we have in our tree, have been spelled a multitude of ways, including even for the same person variations exist in census documents, gravestone markers, and such...and even if they are spelled a bit differently is quite obvious that these are the same Destiche person!

I do have Louis Destiche marrying a mattlda lacourt in Menomonee Michigan about 1900.
Pat

This is not the same Matilda. Matilda married three times and the last marriage was in Detroit Michigan. She had married her third husband - Joseph Lesperance.
Louis died out west somewhere. My mother remembered him as a drinker and thought Matilda was not very nice to him.
My mother - Mildred Gertrude Distash was enumerated in the l910 census. Story was someone gave Matilda a baby or that the baby was the child of Matilda's second son William Distash. Confusing???
Lois Lovisolo

I am still interested in these family names but have not looked at my material for several years.

My mother grew up as a Distash in Mobridge South Dakota. I have never seen it spelled any other way. My mother's background is strange. Her mother -Matilda LaCourt, and then Matilda LeBeau and then Matilda Distash is not really her mother. Matilda married Louis Distash in Michigan and they moved to S.D. Seems to me he might be buried in Montana. (Have to check that.) She seems to have left him to go to Michigan.
Lois Lovisolo

I believe Mattilda Lacourt is buried in an Allouez cemetery, which would be in Brown County Wisconsin Lewis/Louis Destash/Destache, Destiche/ there are many spellings of the name Destash, though I believe most pronounced it DES-TASH. Her spouse is in the Fort Howard Cemetery.

I don't know the Lebeau family. I do have some of the LaCourt's in our tree, but most of the time it is because of marriages to other family members. Destiche/Distash is a line in our tree as well.

Enjoy your visit!

Hi Sherry, I would love to hear anthing you know about Josephine Carrier. My GGmother was Abigail Perkie and her parents were Frank Carrier and Josephine. I am waiting on the Diocese in Oconto to look through Church records. Because I am confused. Josephine Carrier wife of Frank Carrier in Fod du Lac lived with two other senior ladies after Frank's death (according to the 1930 Oconto Census). This is not consistant with the Sophie Leger and Frank Carrier couple. Because Sophie Leger remarried after her Frank Carrier diedto Alphonse Sarasin. These may be two seperate couples. If so I am not sure which couple my Abigail Carrier is the daughter of . My Abigail Carrier married Frank Perkey/Perkie. What can you add? :)

Hi! if your Carrier is the same as mine then she would be Josephine Carrier born 1853 Canada, married george Perkie aka Perkey aka Percey born 1836 Canada. They lived in Oconto, Wisconsin. Josephine was the daughtre of Francis Carriet born abt 1816 in Canada and died 19 Nov 1884 in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. Her mother was Josephine Unknown of Canada...I am looking for her. Or it is possible your Josephine is the unknown wife to me of George and Josephine..he was William George Perkie born 6 March 1873 in prob. Oconto, Wisconsin.

This is a little odd but it works. I live in California but I need help with Marinette ancestors. In desperation I tried this. You may have ggod luck likeme :)Try going to "Find A Grave", online. You will need to register with them as a member. Post an entry for your loved at a reasonable cemetery with as much info as possible. Then post a request that someone post a Foto of the Grave. If the person is buried there you will get a foto of the marker. If they are not buried there try another nearby cemetery and post a memorial there. Sometimes a person will say that the person I am looking for is not buried there but then they offer to check at another cemetery for me! There are so many kind people who living near the cemetery donate time doing research for folks. I have had so much help from people this way. One very kind lady has adopted my search efforts and even collects county records and parish records for me. Try it it works. Good luck. :)

Thank you for your reply, linjonbe35. Would you mind to ask, if Carl's son is interested in getting in touch with me and exchange more information? I could provide scans of the church records for the people I mentioned earlier in my thread.

My private e-mail address is zimba123 [at] web.de (without the spaces and with a proper "at", of course).

Best regards,
Simone
