For anyone wanting to do additional research on Milwaukee Kuehl families, there is another resource that helps take the pain and heartache out of local German newspaper research: "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950). There are about 115 entries or references to Kuehl & Kühl in the index as well as potential leads in spellings like Kuehle & Kühle. Like many valuable research resources, the vast array of these newspapers and the index that has been under construction since 2007 are not online.

Gary Rebholz, compiler/editor
Milwaukee Wis.
gary.rebholz@gmail.com
Indexing Milwaukee's German newspapers continuously since 2007... helping family researchers collect evidence of our historic German-American culture.

deb nelles here at nelles@mtc.net
I will look up the name of the hotel as soon as I get a chance. I live in the mosinee area and do lots of research on the area. Do you need other info on this? Do you have any other info on these people?

I will also look for a picture of the hotel, I may have one. The Falls City Hotel was across the river and run by the Blairs during the 1880's. Have done lots of research on them. Hotel Douville was run by the Douvilles at that time downtown Mosinee. There were two other hotels for sure then. I have info on them, just have not put it all together into a formal collection like I have for the other two.

Please send me an email at the nelles@mtc.net adress, so I put your request into my folder for info wanted on my email server.

thanks
deb nelles

Seeking name of boarding house in Mosinee, 1880 census, operated by Charles & Mary Rich, a Swiss couple.

Charles is listed as a laborer, Mary as keeping house, and with three servants (Donahue, two females named Troula) had 29 boarders in 1880.

This is not "Hotel Douville" and not "Falls City House" -- do not have street address.

Surnames listed include some of the boarders enumerated at the boarding house in 1880 census.

Thank you!
Nancy
Birth: Dec. 24, 1865
Jericho (Calumet County)
Calumet County
Wisconsin, USA
Death: Jul. 26, 1942
Crandon
Forest County
Wisconsin, USA

My great grand uncle

Local Man Found Dead Along Road

Peter Anthony Hoffman, 76, of Crandon, a resident of Forest County for over 40 years, was found dead about 11 o'clock Sunday morning along a side road, a few hundred feet west of highway 55-32, at the north outskirts of Crandon. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Feight of Range Line discovered the body in a water-filled ditch. They saw a hat floating on the water when they passed the scene with a load and reported it to the sheriff's office.
Coroner Dr. O.S.Tenley of Wabeno was called and after conducting an investigation with Sheriff Drank Sturzl decided that death was due to accidental drowning or a heart attack. Hoffman was reported last seen alive at about 3 o'clock Sunday morning and officials believe he fell into the ditch a short time later.
Mr. Hoffman was born Dec. 24, 1865 at Jericho, Calumet county and spent his childhood days at Unity. He lived at Statford at a time before his marriage to Katherine Collins at Webber Town on May 25, 1898. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Wabeno, where he held the office of town assessor. A short time later they moved to Laona when many of the public buildings were being built. Being a carpenter by trade he helped build the Hotel Gordon, Laona State bank, Club House, hospital and other Laona buildings.
His wife preceded him in death Jan. 3, 1936, and a son Mark, passed away at the age of two years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. A. W. Wenzel of Green Bay and Mrs. E.A. Spencer of Crandon; two half-brothers, Joe Hoffman of Statford and Albert Hoffman of Minneapolis, Minn., and a half-sister Mrs. Allan (Allain) of Marshfield.
Funeral services were conducted by Father George Kiefer at 9:30 Tuesday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church, with burial in the Crandon Lakeside cemetery.
The pall-bearers were Jesse Ramsdell, Leo Samz, Harry O'Donnell, Carl Ashbeck, and Art Gruentzel of Crandon and Charles Marshall of Argonne.
Those from out-of-town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Wenzel and son of Green Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hoffman of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Miller of Unity and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marshall of Argonne.

Family links:
Parents:
Peter Hoffman (1847 - 1882)
Selina Wattier Hoffman (1844 - 1868)

Spouse:
Katherine T Collins Hoffman (1865 - 1936)

Children:
Esther Hoffmann Wenzel (1901 - 1989)*

*Calculated relationship

The Marathon County Cemetery Index has this entry:

Emilie W. B. Wolfgram is buried in Cemetery # 035 which is the Athens Cemetery. It is on Townline Road,on the east edge of Athens, and it is bordered on the east by Cemetery Road, which is on the line between section 31 and 32 of Town of Halsey. This cemetery has sections for Calvary Catholic, St. Anthony's Catholic, and Trinity Lutheran Churches.

The Wausau Public Library has the set of books that contain the inscriptions (name, birth and death dates) that were recorded in the 1970's by the Genealogy Society. Emilie Wolfgram's record would be in Volume 5, page 5 in those books.

According to the Marathon County Cemetery Inscriptions Index book by the Marathon County Genealogical Society:

Emilie W.B. Wolfgram was buried in Cemetery # 35 vol 5 page 5. This Cemetery is in Athens Village (Calvary Catholic, St Anthony Catholic, Trinity Lutheran)which is in Halsey Township.

You can either contact the Marathon Co Public LIbrary, the Historical Society of Wisconin in Madison, or the Marathon Co Genealogical Society for a copy of the actual inscription pages included in the Marathon Co Cemetery Inscriptions volumes. They recommend you request a copy of the full page rather than just the information about the person being researched because you may discover other members of the family buried nearby, but of a different surname.
If you know the denomination, you could also contact the church.

I am not related, nor do I have access to obituaries. Best of luck. Bonnie

According to her death certificate, Emilie died in the town of Halsey from tuberculosis 27 June, 1906 and was buried in Athens (Marathon County, Wisconsin). Umfortunately, there is no cemetery name listed. There are several cemeteries in the Athens area. I think you might want to start with the Athens cemetery on Town Line Road just east of town.

Hi, my name is Helen and I am a remote Wolfgram cousin. I can give you some suggestions as to how to find where she is buried. Most, not all,Wolfgrams were German Lutherans. I would start by writing letters to Luteran Cemetery Sextons in and near Halsey. She may or may not have had a headstone. If she does, it may not have been entered yet on findagrave but most likely she doesn't have one. Sextons would have information on unmarked graves. Are you near Halsey? You can go to the nearest "big" town for their library or for their univeristy. Almost everyone now has old newspapers on microfilm and you probably can find her obituary as I did with my great great grandmothers 1903 obit. Or if you are near an extrodinarily large university as I am, they may have that paper on microfilm. Here in Oregon the Univerisity of Oregon has a newspaper microfilm department the size of a McMansion with every state. I checked findagrave and did not find an entry for her. And finally don't be so sure where she is buried. My great grandfather died here in Oregon in 1942 only to be buried in Flasher N.D 4 days later.

He didn't move to Nekoosa from Marathon County until after 1920 and before 1930. Since Emilie died in 1906, she must be buried in Marathon County by the Town of Halsey somewhere.

There is a David Gleason listed on the cemetery index on this site, but no other information (such as cemetery or date of death) is given.

http://marathoncountygenealogicalsociety.org/search.html

Someone on this site says they will do look-ups from the book "Every Name Index to Cemetery Inscriptions", which is where I think the database in the previous link is taken from. You'll have to check and see if the contact informationis still valid.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wimarath/lookups.htm

I am looking for a obit for David Gleason who died in Easton Wisconsin. He may have died in 1910 but I have no documentation.

His MOTHER is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery Wausau and perhaps he is also buried there with a death date. I know there is a Marathon County Cemetery inscription index somewhere but have not been able to find it. His mother was Mary (Brown) Gleason. His wife was Sarah Catherine Hayes Gleason who died in 1908. Her date of death was 8 Dec 1908 and that obit might also lend some clues to where they are buried.

Can someone help me find the date of death and obit for David Gleason from Easton?

I have come across the Marquardt families within Cammin's Cathedral and Rega within Pommern as I have been looking thru the church record books at familysearch.org. They have digitized some of the church books online at:

https://familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A%2F%...

The only thing that I know for sure is that they came from Pommern/Pommerania. I have heard places from where they came but I do not have any evidence to prove it and I do not know where thoses towns are today.

Thank you. The photograph online of Henriette Splettstoeser's stone is wonderful and I appreciate it very much.

I am wondering if these families may have been related or have known each other in the old country. I believe my Splettstoeser family originated from Kolmar, Posen, Prussia. I have also found a Christian Friedrich Splettstoesser there married to Wilhelmine Redetzki. There are several Luedtkes in the same village.

Do your Ludtkes come from that area by chance?

Thanks!
