My grandmother told me she was born in Parrish,WI (1903). I found this to be in Langlade County not Lincoln. My great grandfather worked at the Elm City School in Lincoln Cty., Does anyone know if the county lines ever changed, where as Parrish might have been in Lincoln Cty.? I was always led to believe Parrish was in Lincoln Cty. When I look up Elm City school on a geographical map it shows Parrish, WI...I'm confused. Can anyone shed light on this.
School
Latitude: N45.39524° (NAD83 datum)
Longitude: W89.45485°
Elevation: 1581 ft MSL
County: Lincoln County, Wisconsin
USGS 24K Map: Parrish, WI
USGS 24K MRC: 45089D4

She married Carl Henning and immigrated to America in 1855. Do you have any information on Caroline Schild or her parents? Do you know what church would be at Moitzelfitz as there is a church record but no readable name on it.
Thank you for any information
Don

I found that two of his older brothers were born in Merrill, Lincoln, WI; Ernest Manske b 8-6-1903 and Raymond Manske b 2-20-1906, so I'm hoping maybe Edgar may have born there also. If anyone can help me with this birth record lookup I would really appreciate it.

Beatrice Lajza
(August 1, 1911 - April 24, 2008)

Beatrice Lajza (nee Plzak), 96, long-time Tomahawk resident, community volunteer worker, hardware and appliance merchant's wife, and assistant deliverer of the so-called "Gambles Baby" many years ago, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Golden Living Center - Golden Age, where she had lived for several years.

In 1951, a distraught mother-to-be rushed into Tomahawk's Gambles Store operated by Bea and her husband Ed, seeking help for an impending birth. Bea took charge of the situation, enlisted store staff's help, summoned professional assistance, and set up an emergency delivery area on a stairway landing inside the store. The baby girl was born healthy. Many years later, the "baby" made news by returning to Tomahawk to trace her family history and specifically sought out Mrs. Lajza based on stories her mother had told her. The two reunited in a joyful celebration of life in 2002.

Beatrice Plzak was born August 1, 1911, the only daughter and first of five children of Stanley and Stella Plzak of Deerbrook, WI; all of whom she outlived. She often recounted the thrill of seeing her family's farm one fall evening in 1928, all lit up with electric lights for the first time. By her account, the family several weeks later "lent" some of its electricity to illuminate the local polling station for the Hoover presidential election by running a wire across County Highway A in Neva Corners. After working several years in Chicago and meeting an old hometown neighbor while there, Bea married Edward Lajza in 1934, and the couple moved to Tomahawk shortly afterward. The couple owned and operated Gambles during the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. The marriage produced no children and lasted until 1992, when Ed predeceased her.

In her retirement years, Bea maintained an active social and community volunteer schedule, including volunteer work at Golden Age Nursing Home, where she eventually lived out her life. She held together the families of her four brothers in both joyful and difficult times through frequent, thoughtful letters and a list of several hundred birthdays and anniversaries, earning her the informal title - Matriarch of the Clan. She is survived by the sons and daughters of three brothers - Dennis Plzak (Calif.) and Raymond Plzak (Va.); John Plzak and Douglas Plzak, (Mich.) and their mother - Genevieve (Kubiak) Plzak (Antigo); Lorene Polzak, Peter Polzak, and Rosemary Bolas, (Chicago); Alice Dalebroux and Timothy Polzak (Green Bay); Tony Polzak (Md.), and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m.

[Source: Krueger Family Funeral online search]
Hello -

I attempted to email you aside from the "message board" but apparently your address is missing after the "@..."

My great, great uncle was Jean DuBay (his second wife was our great, great aunt Calista Jessey) and I am in the process of deeply researching his life. I note both DuBay and Peter Jessey were buried in the same cemetery. How appropriate.

My family is from Wisconsin. We were all born and raised there. Fred Burt married Calista's sister, Selestia Eliza Jessey. I would love to return and walk the land once more but at this point the distance from Seattle is too great.

Presently I am deeply involved in researching his entire life in order to re-write the book.

I would be VERY interested in all the information you have regarding DuBay's life (and his family with Calista) after the trail in Madison as well as his early life. Do you have any photos or access to them?

If you email me at: kingrwhowho@yahoo.com
I can give you my home mailing address.

Thank you so much -
Linda Burt (I kept my maiden name)

All:

I've been in touch with an individual in Sweden related to Anna Nelson (Nilsson), wife to Johan (John) Petterson (Peterson), parents to John Levi Peterson (husband to Elin Sjoblom). He provided the attached photo, the original of which is in his possession. The following link is a discussion on the photo in Swedish. Google Translate does a pretty good job of turning it into English, which helps shed some light on the photo.

http://aforum.genealogi.se/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=11906...
Lucille Frances Barden - Aug 1917 - adopted daughter

I'm searching for the birth parents of my grandmother. She was born on August 1, 1917 and was adopted by Charles Henry Barden and Frances Jane (Payne) Barden of Wausau. She grew up an only child, married Edwin Pergolski in 1937, had 16 children and died in Wausau in 1991.

Frances Payne and Charles Barden were married in Wisconsin Rapids in 1902 and lived in Wausau. Frances' sister, Anna married Fred Duncan and lived in Wisconsin Rapids. Her other sister Rose, married Melvin Duncan and I believe they moved to Louisana.

Lucille is believed to have been born in Lincoln county (Merrill?). And I was told the birth mother's name on her adoption certificate is JUNKHER and that her birth mother died when she was a baby or maybe when she was born.

I've been trying to research the Junkher name and have found it to not be very friendly for googling. I even thought I could be sneaky and find out info at the register of deeds in Lincoln county, but that didn't work.

Does anyone have some clues or family secrets to share? ;)

Albertina passed away on 27 Apr, 1965 in Merrill. The death certificate number of her death should be X00838. Her second marriage was to John James Bywater who passed away in 1960 in Milwaukee. My wife (Albertina was her step mother) said that Albertina had family in the Merrill area and also had children but I have no idea what her first married name was or her maiden name. My wife might just have some step brothers and sisters!

Hi Amanda,

It's probable that our Plisch families are related as Karlsthal (now known as Karlovice) was very close Kuttleberg, where my ancestors were known to live. The Plisch surname was relatively rare (and still is). Karlsthal was in the Bruntal district and Kuttelberg was in the Krnov district. These districts were recently combined by the Czech government into one district.

I've done some research into the Plisch families living in this area in the 19th century, and I'm convinced they're related, but I can't prove it yet. Due to money and time constraints, most of my research has targeted Plisch families in the USA. So far, I've been able to trace every Plisch family I've found in the USA back to my great great grandparents. I have plans to continue research (later this year - maybe) on the Plisch families of Silesia (especially Austria Silesia), and I've made some contacts to facilitate this. If you contact me at desalvg@aol.com, I can send you more information, and I promise to keep you informed of what I find if you'll do the same.

Greg

Hi there,

Unfortunately I cannot assist you with your question, but was wondering if you might have any knowledge of my family ancestry. I have a direct relative- Johann Plisch who was born in Karlsthal, Silesia (then known as Austria) in March 1864. He came to Australia in 1888. I have been having trouble in finding information about his family. Apparently his parents were a Johann or John Plisch and Marie or Maria Miller. I wondered of there might be any connection between the two Plisch families. Give the changes over time I’m not sure where to go to try and seek further records about the family. I would really appreciate any advice you could provide.

Regards,

Amanda (user name Sandywitney)

Pösen. According to the information I have her birth place is: Prossekel, Kreis Filehne, Pösen, Prussia. I have also seen her birth place listed as Pösen, Saale-Holzland-Kreis, Thueringen, Germany.
The family is originally from Austria (Silesia). Paulina is the daughter of Gottlieb and Caroline Plisch. There were Plisch families throughout Silesia (both Austria and Prussia). Gottlieb is from Austria Silesia and started his family there. His first children were born in Austria Silesia. Then he took his family north to Pösen, where several more children were born. Then they immigrated to Marathon County, Wisconsin, in 1857. This is where Paulina and Peter were married. Once Peter and Paulina settled in Merrill, I believe they stayed there until Peter's death (prior to 1930). Afterward, Paulina lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Champier Hein, in Pasedena, California. I assume Paulina died in California, but I don't know. I believe Peter is either buried in Merrill, or possibly the Wausau/Berlin area. (Several of Paulina's family members are buried in Friedenshain Cemetery.) It's possible Paulina may be buried next to Peter, or in California. I would think either way there would have been an obituary for both Peter and Paulina in the Wausau/Merrill papers as there were many family members in these areas. I can't find any death or burial record anywhere, and I'm hoping someone knows something about these two.
I'm looking for death or burial information on this married couple. Peter was born 31 May 1850 in Milwaukee. Paulina was born 15 Apr 1855 in Prussia. They were married 31 Aug 1879 in Marathon County, Wisconsin. They lived in several locations in Marathon, Outagamie, and Lincoln counties, and finally settled in Merrill, where they resided between 1905 and 1920 per census records. I know Peter died before 1930 because Pauline was listed as a widow in the 1930 US census and living with her daughter and son-in-law in California. I don't know if he died in Merrill, or where either are buried.
