Robbins or Robins/Grieser adoption

I'm looking for information on an adoption of John Robbins/Robins of Wallisville, TX to the Grieser family of Hamburg, Wisconsin.

I think that John Robbins/Robins may have been related to the Fosters of Lincoln County, Wisconsin - but the genaeology on that side is unclear.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Lincoln County, Wisconsin as his home of record.

Soldier: LAMAR FRANK HASSEL
Born: 1931
Date of loss: August 1, 1950 POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 36 families from Wisconsin that have not been located. There are one family from Lincoln County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (78 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Maria Sofia Niklasdotter married Nils Andersson Tofelt(Soldier in Sweden)
Supposedly Maria and a sister came to America.
I have found that some of Maria and Nils children settled in Merrill, Lincoln, WI. I drive thru this part of WI during the summer months to catch the michigan carferry.

Tine married Nils Tofelt about 1897 according to the 1900 census. THey lived in Merrill. I am looking for maiden name.
Also, She is absent from the the WI 1905 census. I am going to assume that she either died at child birth of her daughter Emma Aurelia Tofelt 09 Jan 1901 or shortly before the 1905 census.
Nils and Tine's son Carl M Tofelt last appearance on a census was 1910.
Nils emigrated 1891 or could have been 1897.

I am researching the ALLARD surname in the Tomahawk area. EIDE is the married name, Frances Allard is the maiden name. I do know that Frances was in this area in 1948 because she had a daughter, Pauline Marie at this time. I believe Frances had a sister named Berny Allard who in turn married a Bart HUBERTY. I am looking for any information on Josephine ( POIRIER ) ALLARD's family. I believe their parents names to be J.B. POIRIER and Catherine AVON. Lived in Ontario, Chicago, Marinette Co., WI and finally in Lincoln Co., WI. He is a farmer age 80 in the 1920 census for Schley, Lincoln, WI (221 or ED 119 sheet 11) He is given as single. 4th wife Francis E., may have predeceased him but not sure. He is given as single not widower in 1920 census.

Raudwer Family - 1911-1930

I am researching the Raudwer Family. It appears that they lived in Lincoln County from at least 1911-1930.

John Raudwer was born in 1911 in Irma and his brother William was born in 1921 to John and Anna Marie (Lampi) Raudwer.

Anna was my great grandmother's half sister (Hilija Johnson Keturi) and she seems to have visited various members of the family in Upper Michigan quite frequently.

I have not been able to locate the Raudwer family in either the 1920 or 1930 census records. The information I do have is based on obituaries and the SSDI.

I also have not been able to find any records of John and Anna Raudwer's death.

I appreciate any help and guidance.

Stearl Knipfer

Stearl Earl Knipfer, 84, of N 11075 Muskellunge Lake Road,
Tomahawk, died Thursday, Jan.19, 1989, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Tomahawk.
Mr. Knipfer was born July 23, 1904, in New Auburn, Wis., to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Knipfer and was married to Winifred Jordan in 1925. She died in September, 1962. He then married Elsie Liberty on Oct. 2, 1971.
Mr. Knipfer came to Tomahawk at age 19 and worked as a fireman in the boiler room at Owens-Illinois for 40 years, retiring in 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; three sons, Rodney and Edward, both of Tomahawk, and Howard, Cali-fornia; two stepsons, Lowell Liberty, Tomahawk, and William Liberty, California; four daughters, Mrs. Velma Ethridge, LaCrosse, Mrs. Dolores Hem, Milwaukee, Mrs. Don (Pat) Habeck, Schofield, and Mrs. Frank (Judy) Molley, Tomahawk; three step-daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Dorothy) Erickson Sr. and Alice Thone, both of Tomahawk, and Mer-cedes McFarland, Vancouver, Wash.; three brothers, Frank, Madison, and Brian and Bernard, both of New Auburn; and 25 grandchildren, 32 great~grandchildren, 21 step-grand-children and 23 step-great-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by a son, Russell; three daughters, Betty David, Virjean and Beverly; infant twins; and a granddaughter, Beverly David.

Services were held Monday in Grace Lutheran church with the Revs. S. F. Iverson and Jeff Tarras officiating. Krueger and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services were held Saturday in St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomahawk; for Laura E. Montabon, 88, of 109 W. Prospect Ave., Tomahawk, who died last Wednesday in a La Crosse hospital.
The Revs. John Israel and John Schenck officiated and burial was in Greenwood' Cemetery, Tomahawk. Krueger and Sons Funeral Home, Tomahawk, was in charge of ar-rangements.
Mrs. Montabon, the former Laura Krubsack, was born June 5' 1898 in Embarrass to Mr. and Mrs August Krubsack. She was married to Frank Montabon on Dec. 28, 1922 in
Wausau. He died Sept.23. 1957.
Mrs. Montabon came to Tom-ahawk in 1922. She was a sales clerk at Master Electric Shop, which her husband owned and operated. and later worked at the Gamble Store and Bradfish Hardware as a clerk. She was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Den-nis, La Crosse, and Leland, Foster City, Calif.; a sister, Mr~ Cora Trep-tow, Shannon, Ill.; and six grand-children and three great-grandchildren

McDonald in Oneida, WI, on 16 March 1892. I know Elizabeth was still living in 1930 as she and Henry appeared in that census (57 years of age), in Merrill, Lincoln, WI. Henry and Elizabeth lived on Pine Street in Merrill for most of their married life.

I am researching the Longworth branches of my family in Wisconsin, USA.

One possible is Thomas Henry Longworth born Abt. 1852 or 1853 England. Probably came to Wisconsin, America USA in about 1855 or 1856. (possibly later)

I would like to find out whether he is related or not.

Thomas Henry Longworth married Delia Ferdon on December 12, 1875 at Rantoul, Calumet County, Wisconsin, USA.

I find Thomas (age 27) and Delia Longworth (age 21) on the 1880 Ackley, Lincoln, Wisconsin, USA Census; With Children Ida Bell (age 3) and Ralph (age 2)

At the moment need further help locating the family after 1880? Would like to know if Thomas Henry Longworth became a U.S. citizen? And where his naturalization (or, declaration of intent) papers would be located?

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed for 33 years as a railroad carman in Wausau for the Milwaukee Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Koprek; three sisters-in-law, Helen Koprek, Missouri, Myrtle Koprek, Rhinelander, and Helen (Earl) Kressel, Gleason; two brothers-in-law, Carl (Edith) Simon, Antigo, and Paul (Lorraine)Simon, Gleason; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. Burial will be in the town of Summit Cemetery. Visitation will from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill and from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may given to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason or Bethesda Lutheran Home, Watertown, Wis.

I'm trying to find a link between Anton Proft who came to London, UK in the 1860's and the many Profts who migrated to the USA around that time. Anton was born c.1845, son of Anton Proft (a butcher) and was a glass engraver. He married, had a family and died in London in 1893. I just have a feeling that he may have had brothers who travelled on to the USA, can anyone help ?

I just purchased a copy of the 1927 Tomahawk High School yearbook and would be willing to do lookups/scan photos. There are individual photos of the graduating class and group photos of freshmen, sophomores & juniors, (individuals in the groups are identified). There are also photos of faculty, sports teams, club members, etc.

The current status and location of graduates from the classes of 1916 - 1926 are also listed.

Is anyone familiar with the Fleming Photo Studio ithat was n operation in Merrill, WI in what I believe had to be very early 1880's. If Merrill wasn't named until 1881 this photo I have of two gentleman, supposedly brothers, could not have been taken any earlier. I think they are either Samuel and Joshua Smith or Joshua Smith and his cousin G. A. Goodrich.

I am trying to solve a photo mystery. Does anyone know when Laatsch Photography in Merrill first started? I am also wondering why a family might have photos taken of the parents with only the male children or just the male children?
I have several photos which I believe represent a series in this family....just the parents, then 3 male children approx. 1,4,6 years old, then the parents ant 3 male children approx 10, 14, 16 years old. I am having trouble because sisters are absent and The clothing doesn't seem to match up correctly year wise. AAARRRGH!:)

Hello,
I am looking for some of my extrended family. looking for information on the family of CARL A. F. RUSCH (born about 1851 in Germany to David Rusch and Wilhelmine Hinse) and his wife LOUISE CAROLINE AHRENS (born about 1857 to Detlof Ahrens and Anna Maria Katrina Schmidt).

According to records in the Marthon Couty Register of deeds, in the years 1878-1880 they lived in the town of Maine, Marthon County. They had (at least) four children:
EMILIE RUSCH - born about 1878
MARIA RUSCH - born about 1879, twin sister to Martha
MARTHA RUSCH - born about 1879, twin sister to Maira
HEINRICH "Henry" FERDINAND CARL RUSCH was born July 7, 1880 in the town of Maine. According to his marraige certificate, he married OLGA BRANDENBURG on May 10, 1906 in Marrill, Lincoln County.

I also know that his confirmation was on March 18, 1894 at St. Johannes Evangelical Lutheran Church in Merrill.

If anyone could point me in the direction of this church (if it still exsists) or could give me a heads up on anything, I would be very greatful.

Info on John Landry

I am looking for information on John Landry, born approx 1854 somewhere in Quebec; he lived in Tomahawk WI, as a lumberman with his wife Rosalie (or alternatively Rosalia), daughter Genevieve, son Leo (and four other daughters whose names I have not confirmed).

RootsWeb and all the data the volunteers have put up has been invaluable. Still I have only found one official document of him from the 1910 Census, when he was in Bradley Township.
To complicate matters there may have been at least one other John Landry in the area.

I believe the 1902 Tomahawk directory also has an entry for him and his daughters Daisy, Laura and Mabel (or Mable).
They resided at the corner of Washington and 2nd street then (but apparently elsewhere by the 1910 census). I could be mistaken about this entry though, because his son Leo would have been 7 then and Genevieve would have been about 9 and they were not listed in the directory, nor was his wife.

I also found info on marriage records but I suspect that not all of these are his daughters.

Hello all. I just received the death certificate for Lavina Robarge who died on January 17, 1929 and was born on Dec 20 1855. It says she was widowed. However I have the death certificate of Alexander Robarge(I thought was her husband) and it says he was widowed. His death certificate says he died on Feb 8, 1924 and born on Sept 20 1846. I don't think that this Alex is the husband of Lavina. It says they were both buried at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Can someone take a picture of Lavina's headstone and possibly her husband's who may be buried next to her? I would be very appreciative if someone could get her husband and his birth and death dates.

Libbie DuBay, b. 1870, m. Henry Duranso, aka Duranceau, 16 Nov 1890 in Lincoln County. Mrs. C. DuBay, age 62, widow, b. VT, with son Henry, age 32, b. WI, a log driver, found on 4th St. in Tomahawk City on the 1900 Lincoln Co. Census.

Have found references that DuBay was aka Dubois, part Indian. Mrs. C. might be Calista, possible second wife of John. John might be the John B. DuBay, died 1887, maybe in Marathon or Portage County.

I am looking for an obituary for Helga Odegard or date of death from the cemetery headstone. Her husband was Mathias Odegard and he died in Merrill on Oct 19, 1929. The death certificate I just received from Wisconsin(for Mathias) does not list the cemetery. I think Helga died between 1935 and 1941 in Merrill and probably buried next to him. The Wisconsin Vital Statistics office did not find a death certificate for Helga. Her maiden name was Lokka.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Helen Obey, 85, of South Seventh Street, Tomahawk, died Saturday morning, Feb. 6, 1988, at
Sacred Heart Hospital, Tomahawk.
Mrs. Obey was born Dec.26, 1902, in West Allis to Albert and Anna Schufletowski and was married to Joseph M. Obey on June 8, 1926, in Tomahawk. She graduated from Lincoln County Normal School in 1922 and taught in Lincoln County rural schools until 1926. She taught at St. Mary's Parochial School, Tomahawk, from 1952 to 1957.
The couple lived in Ontonagon, Mich., from 1957 until moving back to Tomahawk in 1982.
Mrs. Obey was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Catholic Wo-men's Club, the Altar Society, the Bridge Club and the Tomahawk Civic Club. She was active in the Tomahawk Deanery of Catholic Women.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Joseph Jr., Rhinelander, and Philip, Waukegan, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Joanne) Theiler and Mrs. Ross (Carol) Joslin, both of Tomahawk, and Kathleen, Rhinelander; a brother, Lawrence Schufletowski, McFarland; and 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Elton, and a brother and a sister.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Robert O'Connell and the Rev. David Malsch officiating. Burial will he in Calvary Cemetery, Tomahawk.
A parish prayer service was held Monday evening in Krueger and Sons Funeral Home, Tomahawk.

George Richard RIGWOOD m. Cecilia MASSART in Lincoln County in 1905; her father was Felix; his father was also George. They lived in Lincoln, and later Oneida County, and eventually split up. She died in Washington state in about 1960.

MASSART family was large and numerous in Town of Merrill; had come to Lincoln from Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. Felix came to US from Belgium, mid-1850s.

Looking for information on the Henry and Ida (Mielke Halverson, Charles and Amelia (Mielke) Halverson, and Otto and Alvina (Mielke) Hintze families. They lived around the Chat, Gleason area in Lincoln to around the 1930's. Also would like to know more about where to find where Chat used to be.
