Searching for information on Frances or Frank Clark who lived in Antigo at time of his death on 5 Feb 1907. He was married to Ada or Addie Barber. They had children Harry, William, Charles, Maude, Bertha and Kittie. After Frank's death on 16 Feb 1907, I found a Langlade county marriage record for Ada P. Clark dated the 5 Sep 1907. However, the site did not include the man's name she married. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

I found the obit for Charles M. Clark and Marie L.Clark on 28 Dec 1932 in the Antigo GenWeb site. That is Addie's son. Charles had children Mabel, Sherman M, and Beatrice J Clark. Unable to locate any living relatives of this family. Any help would be appreciated

My great aunt, Elizabeth PALMER, married a GILLESPIE circa 1895 and moved (back?) to Antigo from Lee Co, KY. Her son 'BRACK'(nickname or shortened) was a lawman, maybe sheriff, ca. 1946-50. There was a son Jack, who would be 70-75 now, and a younger son whose name I can't recall. There may have been other children.

Julie SCHENKELBERG was doing research on the PALMER family in 1997, but her Email address is no longer valid.

Any information on any of these kinfolk would be appreciated.
Monty Reed

Surname List

Lately I have noticed more activity on the Langlade County message board and decided I would like to put out the surnames I am researching. My Grandpa Walter GEHRKE married Maude Betsy CLOUGH in Beaver Dam. They lived in Summit Lake. Maude was widowed in 1916. Sometime in between 1918 and 1930 she remarried a man named KENNEDY. They had a son named Edward? called Mickey who died in his mid to late teens. Maude made her living as a cook and I believe she often cooked in logging camps. Does anybody have any information about these names.
Thank you so much
Susan Munger

I've been able to establish Charles (sr)and Anna (FALLIS)
GEHRKE in Langelade County in the 1900 census, but have no information about either of their parents. DOB for these two, respectively, 1852 and 1859. Charles was born in New York and he indicates his parents were born in Germany. Anna was born in Canada as were her parents. I believe this couple was married in and resided in Canada in the early years of their marriage. Does anybody know of any other GEHRKE Families in Langelade County, ie, brothers or sisters to Charles SR. I've hit the proverbial brick wall with my GEHKRES. Thank you.
The family of Byron Robinson and Clara Dupree

I am looking for information on the family of Byron Robinson (1879) and Clara Dupree (1880). Both were born in Wisconsin. Byron's father was from Pennsylvania, and his mother was from either Pennsylvania or Wisconsin. Clara's parents were French Canadian immigrants.

The two married on August 14, 1899 in Wood County, so it is quite possible one or both are from there. They lived in Wood , Wood County in 1905. In 1910 they lived in Hiles, Forest County. In 1920 they lived in Elton, Langlade County, and in 1930 they lived in White Lake, Langlade County. I believe they both died in this area, but I don't know when. Clara, I know, passed away after 1960.

They had twelve children together:
Henry (1901), Margaret (1903), Frank (1904), Edward (1905), Mabel (1907), Viola (1908), Byron (1913), Leuretta (1915), Pearl (1917), Rosella or Rosetta (1919), Bernard (1923), and John (1926).

Any information you can add would be very much appreciated!

Roberts and Combs Families

I'm looking for information on the family of George R. Roberts (1881-?after 1930), who moved to Langlade County around 1900. He lived primarily in the town of Evergreen. He married Lula Porter and had Harold (1906), Nois?(1908), and Nellie Jewel (1912-1999). Lula died between 1912 and 1919, and George then married the widow Mamie Combs (1885-?), also born in Kentucky. Mamie had 4 kids from her marriage to Thomas Combs: Everett (1903), Mary (1904), Minnie (1908), and Roland (1912). George and Mamie had two kids together: Roscoe (1919) and Raymond (1922).

I have census records for George from 1900-1930 and Mamie and family from 1910-1930. If anyone has any other information to add to this, I would really appreciate it.
Lindsey lindseythompson83@gmail.com

Interested if anyone knows/has information about my family in Mattoon. My father, Harry Gordon Hones - born 1908 - and uncle, Boyd Anthony Hones - born 1904 - both graduated from Mattoon High School. I realize anybody that new my dad and Uncle would be in late 90's now - but I also know those Wisconsin people are very healthy. I have a copy of the 1923 Mattoon High School Parrot and other names in the list of freshman (along with my dad) are Joe Mottel, Barbara Probst, Eugene Shaefer, Genevieve Berger, Leona Blum, Ed Eggink, Myrtle Calkins, Marion White, Julius Lebroux, Melvin Listed, John Moss, Mathew Lightbody, Lucille Fermanich, Annie Hannie, Willie Jahnke, Helen Lierman, Alice White, Willie Walkner, Jeannete Boyer and Paul Lierman. Some of the names I remember my dad talking about when he was a kid were Chunky Babcock and Pinky Flo. Anyone who has any relatives who might have memories of my father and uncle and would be willing to share with me would be appreciated. I would also be happy to make a copy of the 1923 Parrot and send to you. My dad's father, John C. Hones, was a big man (stature) and worked on the railroad. thanks for any memories.

Hi Everyone,

A lot of you might know about my website on rootsweb freepages, holding indexes to census records and links to census indexes.. along with historical information about Langlade County.

I've now added a new part to my website. It holds family histories of what information I could find on families from Langlade County.. most of them specifically from or connected to Polar Township. There are about 230 something pages of genealogical information that i've uploaded. The main point of this project was to show how all the families seem to connect in some way.. either through marriage or blood.

Take a look and let me know of any suggestions or any corrections to my information. I do also know that I may have used several people's information. If you come across something that was clearly yours, please simply email me and I would be more than happy to list you as the primary source.. hopefully with some additions and corrections too!

If there is a family that was from Polar that I do NOT have and connects with any of the other families, please let me know!

I hope everyone can benefit from this.

Nick M.
Looking for info on Archie and Mary Spencer, shown in 1920 census. They had a son John age 23 in hh, also niece Anna Montour age 18, with her son eugene. Our ancester Anna Montour did marry a John Spencer, had sons Eugene and James Alexander Spencer. Was this the correct John who was her husband? Their son James was born in Iron Mt. MI in 1925. John died shortly afterwards. Anna remarried, twice, last husband was Doc Kaufmann. If Anna was niece, and her parents were Wm. Montour and Johanna Harvey, was Mary Spencer's maiden name Harvey? Was she a dtr of Henry Harvey?

I was doing research on an old photographic postcard and came up with this information on the photographer:

The photographer was William Henry WESSA, born April 28, 1887. Resided in Antigo (Langlade County), Wisconsin.

He served as a U. S. Army Sergeant in the 107th Trench Mortar Battery, 32nd Div. from April 21, 1917 to May 15, 1919. He served overseas from February 17, 1918 to April 30, 1919 and was in the Alsace defensive and the Chateau Thierry, Juvigny and Muese Argonne offensives.

He was the son of Phillip and Christine (Beemeck) WESSA of Antigo. They were married in Langlade County 20 June, 1885. He died December, 1974 in Antigo, Wisconsin.

After his service he was a photographer in the 1920's and 1930's. Many of his photos were of the local native American tribes. You can view some of his photos in the Wisconsin Historical Society photograph collection at:

http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/search.asp

The photo postcard I have which was taken by him ca 1920-1930 can be seen at:

http://webpages.charter.net/autumnrain/wessaphoto2.jpg

I am not researching this name but thought I'd put this info out there for those who are. If you want to copy the photo while it's up, feel free.

Information on this house?

I lived in a house at 311 6th Avenue from approximately 1950 to 1955. The house was a mansion in disrepair and eventually torn down. I've enclose a picture, hoping to stir anyone's memory of this building. I had heard that it once belonged to a local "Lumber Baron" but I don't know if that's true. There was also a rumor that it was "haunted" which it wasn't. It was a house filled with stained and cut glass windows, Tiffany style lamp shades, marble fireplaces, fantastic woodwork, two staircases and the list goes on and on. The house represented the quality of workmanship and materials available at the time of it's construction.

Charles Kegley & Hettie Conn, married 1902

Seeking info on when and where Charles Kegley and his wife Hettie Conn died, also 1910 and 1920 census readings if anyone has these censuses for a lookup. They were married on 7 Jan 1902 in Rowan Co, Ky, and moved to Langlade Co., Wisconsin before 1910. They reportedly both died in Wisconsin, dates unknown, but I'm not sure they were still living in Langlade Co. at the time of their deaths.

According to the marriage license application, Charles was 21 and Hettie was 18 at the time of their marriage. But according to some researchers, Charles was reportedly the son of Austin Kegley and Nancy Frye of Elliott Co., Ky, which if true would mean that he was really 31 at the time of his marriage, because the 1870 census of Elliott Co lists Charles the son of Austin as age 1 month.

My primary interest is in finding the full name of Hettie's parents, and I'm hoping that a death certificate or obituary would lead me to that info. Hettie's first husband was my GG Grandfather, Jessie Petitt. They were married when Hettie was 14 and Jessie was 16, and divorced about two years later. They had one daughter Isabelle, who was raised by Hettie's mother. My descent is from Jessie's second marriage to Emma Jane Clark, so this Kegley/Conn family is not related to me by blood, but I would like to know more about my GG Grandfather's first wife.

I have a web site of linked family group sheets, here is the page for Charles Kegley & Hettie Conn:
http://tpettit.best.vwh.net/family/pettit/FG03/FG03_107.htm

I have been given the name of Ed Hunter, who had a brother by the name of Byron. Allegedly Ed is the biological father of my grandma, Janice Lee Scott (Skidmore) Any information at all regarding these individuals would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Justin

Brandt descendents from Polar, WI

My mother was Elizabeth Anna Brandt, born 1937, died 2001, daughter of Herman W. Brandt and Beatrice Ensle(y) who lived on Hill Rd., Polar, WI. Many family members buried at St. John's Lutheran Cemetary, Polar, WI.. Herman W. Brandt was son of Bertha and Henry Brandt who lived near Maple Hill School and Hwy. 64 ( I believe home is still there on the short-cut to Hwy S from Hwy. 64). Am looking for any information, stories, history, memories about my family to pass on. Grand-father Herman W. Brandt had siblings: Ernest, Emma (married Otto Wierschke), Dona, Dailah (married Roy Hartman, Bryant, WI), Elsie (married a Grady), there were more, but that's all I know of. Grand-mother Beatrice was only child born to Will(iam) and Charlotte (Mader) Ensle(y). Would like to research more about Great-Grandparents, who came from Germany and the Polar past or just anything anyone would like to share would be deeply meaningful to me. Thank you and blessings.

The Eagle River Genealogical Society has been asked by the local veterans office to try and locate living relatives of a Samuel Odell. Company E 87th New York infantry Army.
He is buried in the Eagle River, Vilas Co.Wi.Cemetery next to his wife. Mrs. Odell. (No first name)
The record the veterans office has was recorded August 15, 1936. This is not necessarily a death date. The cemetery records do not indicate when he was buried.
They need a relative to request a military marker for his grave.
So far we have had no success.

Have checked census.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than posting on the Odell board
and Eagle River, Wisconsin and surrounding counties boards?

Lorene Schertzl
Eagle River Genealogical Society
My grandfather had a first cousin named James V. Bassett who lived in Langlade county in the first half of the 20th century. From the early census I understand that James was a veterinary. His wife was Selina and they had a number of children. From the census and other sources I believe the following are some of James & Selina's children:
Audrey b. c1906
Beulah Margaret b. c1907 d. 2001
James E. c1908
Jeanette c1915
Mae c1917
Elizabeth (or Geraldine?) c1920

I am interested in corrections on the above and any further info on the family. It would really be great to actually make connections with family members.

Marie in Regina

I have been trying to locate a place of burial and date of death for Ella SHORT. She has two sisters that are buried in the Elcho cemetery so I'm wondering if she may be buried there also. Her sisters are Lula Ratliff and Govie Held. Her husband's name was Melvin Short. I'm guessing that Ella was born Abt. 1915 based on her sisters ages. Any help would be appreciated!

He may have also been called Adolf. He came to Antigo from Germany around 1892. He was a cigar maker. His daughter, Louise, married Bert O. Merrill who farmed or did logging around Antigo at the time. Bert was my great grandfather. I'm working on my family tree. I've come to a dead end on this branch. Anything you could tell me about Fred Luebke or Bert O. Merrill would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Joel Merrill
