I'm hoping someone can help me. My great-granfathers name is Patrick McDonnell. I know that he is listed in the " History of Iowa County 1881." I had a copy of the listing at one time but seem to have misplaced it. His name is Patrick McDonnell, his wifes name is Mary Sheeren, they were married in 1840. He is a farmer and they had 11 children. They both were born in Ireland. I would appreciate a copy of this listing if at all possible. I am trying to fill in a few blanks. Thank you so much for your time and effort.

I'm looking for the exact location of the Wall-McFarland Cemetery in Highland. Two of my ancestors David & James McFarland lived in Highland (they aren't buried in Iowa County but I wonder of some of their siblings or children might be). I have several ancestors who were apparently buried somewhere between Highland and Dodgeville including my g-g-g-g-grandparents George Edmund Franklin and Jane "Jenny" Herd Franklin (lived in Wyoming Valley), and other aunts and uncles named Booth and Dziewanowski (lived in Booth Hollow).

Thanks,
Tim Hall

Can anyone tell me the likely location of a "little cemetery on the hill, 15 miles north of Dodgeville." It is mentioned in an ancestor's memoirs as the burial site of several of my Franklin ancestors. I suppose it could be Sauk County or even Richland County. Can anyone think of an old cemetery in that area where protestants who died in the mid-1800s might be buried?

Thanks,
Tim Hall
Tim Hall 1 at gmail dot com

Virginia Ann RIGGS (1839 Meigs cty, OH - 1902 MI) married Jesse BUNKER (1859 IA). Their children were: Ada, Forest, Torrence (my ancester), Orah and Marium. Virginia was the daughter of William Roby RIGGS (who supposedly died in 1849 in the "gold rush") and Lavinia BURRISS or BURNS (circa 1808 OH - 1887 MI). In Virginia's obituary it was stated she lived in Missouri; Iowa county, Wisconsin; Galena, Illinois; Ohio and then moved to Iowa. Do you have any further information on this family line? Please e-mail me. Kathy

Seeking death date and place of death of John Gard who resided in Eden Twp. and can be found there in the 1900 thru' 1930 census. In the 1930 census, John Gard is a widower, living by himself. His age is all over the place in the various census reports so I have no idea when he was born. All census reports state he was born in Wisconsin, parents born in England. Can not find John Gard in any census report prior to 1900. First record I have on him is his marriage record in Grant County, WI to Fanny Jose. Wife, Fanny (Jose) Gard is buried Cobb Cemetery.

Might anyone know if there was a small village at one time around 1855-1860 in Mineral Point called Graysville or Greysville? I looked for a location in Iowa Co., WI and all that came up was a Rd in Mineral Point called Greysville Rd.? Perhaps a defunct ghost town? Anyone with a lot of Iowa County Historical knowledge know where that is located?

I was just sent an obit today by the Mineral Point Room. The obit says that a woman called Mrs Jeffery who died at Graysville. Or it is printed in the paper as...
On Thursday last, at Graysville, Mrs --- Jeffery, wife of Edward Jeffery. This was printed in 06/27/1857 in the Mineral Point Tribune. Where might she be buried?
Does anyone know if there is a complete list of the Old Mineral Point Cemetery burials or a complete list of Graceland Cemetery published anywhere? Can someone do a look up for a Edward or Johannah Jeffery? I know Edward and his children show up in the 1860 census. I have that they became naturalized citizens in 1853/54. Robert one son says 1853, and William my gg grandfather both give 2 different years in the 1880 census. Edward shows up in the 1855 enumerated census. Does some one have access to that? I would like to know if their mother Johanna was also living with them when they came to the US. I can not find a record of immigration. I would think they all came over together since they all show up in 1860. I found the family in 1851 in Cornwall England census living in Pengiggon in Camborne Dist, of Cornwall, also in Tuckingmill.
Seeking info about Harris, Solomon and Moses Lewis who emigrated to Highland (Harris and Moses) and Linden (Solomon) Wisconsin in late 1860s or early 1870s, and opened "Lewis Bros." store in each town. They emigrated from Mariampole Lithuania which was in conquered territory known as Russia or Russia Poland, or Poland. Solomon, and maybe his two brothers, passed through England on the way to US. Moses was later called John by the townspeople, and may have owned a lead and zinc mine in Mineral Point during WWI. Birthdates of Harris, Solomon and Moses were approx. 1846, 1851 and 1856 respectively. Solomon is my Grandfather. I would especially like to know what the family's surname was in Lithuania. I think it was not Lewis.

The parents were Francis Mullen and Elizabeth Cagoan. The children were John, James, Margaret, Mary and Francis. The period of time the children were born and living in Iowa County was approximately 1860-1880. The parents marriage ended in divorce and the siblings scattered. My great grandfather ended up in Minnesota. His youngest brother Francis may have been in Rockford, Ill. Does anyone know anything about them?

I have James Robinson Mundon (b abt 1823) who married Isabelle Jane Walker in May 1849 in Iowa County. Parents' names are not shown, though Isabelle was the daughter of John T. Walker and Cynthia Enloe. Does anyone know James' parents names?

Isabelle and James had one son, Frederick May Mundon, born late 1850 or early 1851 in Bond County, Illinois, after the 1850 census was taken. James gave his birthplace as Illinois, though his son later gave Wisconsin as his fathers' birthplace in the census.

James died in 1852 in Bond County, Illinois. James purchased 80 acres of land with Francis Criswell Kirkpatrick and several other men in Iowa County in 1849. James' gave his birthplace in 1850 census as Illinois, though his son always indicated Wisconsin in as his father's birth place in the census.

1840 Miner's District Census for Galena, IL posted on http://jodaviess.ilgenweb.net/census/census.htm
page Iow-059 shows Munden, Frederick, males 0 (< 5) 1 (5-9) 1 (10-14) 1 (15-19) 0 (20-29) 1 (30-39).
Frederick is most likely the 30-39 yr old male.
Public trees show Frederick and Susanna Kirkpatrick had 3 sons: Zacharia (1826), William Fletcher
(1834) and Hosea (Dec 1840, who would not be in this census).

Has anyone been able to establish identity of the 15-19 year old male in his household?

The Dodgeville Chronicle, Dodgeville, Iowa Co., Wi.
Fri 07 Jan 1887
-Highland-
Little Willie, son of Mr. and mrs. Richard Flynn, aged ten years, departed to his heavenly home on New Year's morning about 9 o'clock, with that dreaded disease, diptheria, which caused considerable sorrow, as he was dearly loved by every person in the village for his manly actions and kindness of heart. This is a heavy blow on his bereaved parents and sisters, as he was the only son in the family, and they loved him as devotedly as they did themselves. It will be sad news to send to hsi father, who is at Robinson, Colorado, and who has not seen him since he was an infant. Little Willie was buried on the morning of the 2d, in the Catholic Cemetery. The bereaved family has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community over the sad affliction.

Willie's parents are Richard and Margaret (Fitzpatrick)Flynn.

I only have data on the stones that still remain, there are many burials where the stones are gone. If I can be of any help regarding a name or a photo of a stone, just let me know & I will be glad to get it for you. I have a plot map for the cemetery that I got at the village hall & they do have some burial record there, but most have been destroyed in a fire.

I've been searching for the vitals on one Asbjorn E Steensland of Iowa county. He was born in Norway in 1833, but I still lack the date of his death. In 1901 and in 1907, he's said to live in Moscow, Iowa county, where his parents had settled in 1854. Any info on mr. Steensland would be greatly appriciated.

Regards,
Stein

Death of Bergit Halvorson
Mrs. Bergit Halvorson, an old resident of the Town of Eden, died at her home, July 14th, 1906, after a few weeks' hard suffering.

The funeral took place from the home and Otter Creek church on the 16th and was largely attended. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Nestande, who officiated in both the English and Norwegian languages. Mrs, Halvorson was born in Nummedal, Norway, in the year of 1833. She came to this country 50 years ago. She was married to Halvor Halvorson in 1859. For the first 10 years they made their home on a farm in the town of Dodgeville, but they disposed of this and bought a home in the town of Eden, and at this home they both labored and toiled till death called them to the land of the "great beyond". Mr. Halvorson died October 28th, 1888, and since his death, the dear old mother has been cared for by her sons John and Thomas H. Eight children were born to this family of which 3 have already received the summons to leave their earthly abode. The living are: Albert H., of Detroit, Minn.;John H., Eden; Henry H., Glidden, Wis.;Thos. H., Eden; Charley H., Spring Valley, Minn. There are 8 grandchildren.

The children and other relatives wish through the columns of this paper to extend their kind thanks to their many friends who so kindly remembered them during the sickness and death of their beloved mother. The Cobb choir rendered some excellent music at the funeral. Thanks.
Could someone please check the old census records for Iowa County, Wisconsin? I'm looking for information on a Halverson family--Halver and Bergit (spelling?) Halverson (maybe Halvorsen or Halvorson.) The father Halver's age is unknown but in the 1860 census the mother "Bergit" would be around 26-28 years old. Their son Albert should be on the 1860 census as a baby...he was born at or near Dodgeville on Jan. 25, 1860. There could be other children listed such as John and Tom but their ages are unknown. If this family is on the 1870 census here, the mother would of course be about 37, and Albert, 10. Thank you very much in advance.

He was last visiting his brother Jim Jackman, in Three Rivers Michigan in about 1933. Any information about him would be most helpful. The wife's maiden name was Florence McLane.

I am trying to find a record for the birth of Anna Ruth Morris. She was born in Wyoming Valley, Iowa County, Wisconsin on 10 December, 1881. She was the daughter of John Todd Morris and Mary Ellen Joiner. Does anyone know what churches were in the area in 1881? The state said they have no record of her birth. Thank you.

Joseph Sandel (born abt 1819 in PA) appears in the 1870 & 1880 censuses in Highland twp with wife Louisa (b. abt 1821 in Prussia). Their children, all born in New York, were Sarah Jane (b. abt 1849) & Eva Rose (b. abt 1855), & sons Adam (b. abt 1856) & M.C. (b. abt 1864, perhaps d. bef 1880 as he is not listed with them then). In 1880 there is another family listed with them in the census: a Sarah who appears to be their daughter, her husband Edward THEVES b. abt 1849 Poland, and their baby Edward. Any further information on these folks would be appreciated - where did they go, when did they die, did Adam or Eva Rose marry? I have looked at the online Wisconsin Historical Society vital records index and found nothing except a marriage record for a Sarah Jane Sendel in 1871, but neither of the possible husbands indexed vaguely resemble Edward Theves.

i am looking for infomation on William Henry green married to sarah they came to the U.S. Via Wisconsin from england. they had a daughter harriet according to my info they came to wisconsin when harriet was only about six months old she was born on august 11 1846 at worchester, england. they eventually lived at or near olewein iowa

i just recently come across this infomation on Mary Jane GREEN married to EDWARD HENRY LOCKWOOD on this page http://www.rootsweb.com/~iafayett/flocke.htm it gives her parents as william green and sarah hand as follows:

The subject of this sketch is one of the successful farmers and enterprising citizens of Fayette county, whose life has been characterized by strict integrity and unsullied honor. He is a shrewd and practical man of affairs and because of his sterling qualities he has won the respect of all who know him. Mr. Lockwood was born in Oran township, Fayette county, Iowa, on September 25, 1854, and is a son of Lewis and Hannah (SEAMANS) Lockwood. The father and mother came from Steuben county, New York, in 1852 and located in Oran township, where they took up two hundred acres of farm land. Here the subject of this sketch was reared to manhood and received his education in the public schools of the locality, subsequently, in 1874-5, attending the Upper Iowa University. He then engaged in teaching school. He taught school fourteen terms in Bremer and Fayette counties, beginning his work while the editor of this history was serving as county superintendent. Seeking a wider opportunity for advancement, Mr. Lockwood ceased teaching and took to farming and dealing in livestock, in which he met with gratifying success from the start. He conducted farming operations in Oran township, Fayette county, and also across the line in Bremer county, owning land in both counties. He has been adding to his original possessions from time to time as he was able, until at present he is the owner of between eight hundred and nine hundred acres of as good farming land as can be found in this section of the state. Mr. Lockwood gave his personal attention to every detail of his business, which, under his careful management and energetic attention, was prospered. He made many permanent and substantial improvements on the property, which is considered one of the choice farming properties in the locality. In the fall of 1899 Mr. Lockwood moved to Fayette, having a nice farm located in the west edge of the city. He still gives his attention to his other farms, having men to operate them for him. He is a great fancier of cattle, of which he is an excellent judge. He has made all he has by his own efforts. His first start was in buying fifty-three acres of land, from which he soon realized a profit. He has frequently gone into debt thousands of dollars in making land deals, but his sound judgment in every case has been vindicated by results. He is now the owner of a comfortable and attractive residence located on high land on the west edge of Fayette, overlooking the beautiful Volga valley, where the spirit of hospitality is ever in evidence.

In 1878 Mr. Lockwood was married to Mary Jane GREEN, the daughter of William and Sarah (HAND) Green. She was born in Iowa county, Wisconsin, and came to Bremer county in 1864 with her parents. The latter originally came to America from Worcestershire, England, in 1846, locating in Wisconsin, where they were numbered among the pioneers, as they were also in Bremer county, Iowa. To Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood have been born nine children, namely: Estella V. is the wife of Fred SHELTON, of Oran township, this county, and they have one son, Lyle B.; Lila E., who remains at home with her parents, has been engaged in teaching school for two years; Norma M., wife of Edgar MILLER, of Banks township; Edna H., a teacher; Ray W. is at home and is assisting his father; Pearl is a student in the high school at Fayette; Zenita, Lelah and Earl S. are attending school. Fraternally, Mr. Lockwood is a member of the Knights of Pythias and takes an intelligent interest in the workings of this beneficent order. Religiously, he and his wife are members of the Congregational church, to which they give an earnest and liberal support

my question is could my william Henry & Sarah be the same as the William & Sarah mentioned above. does anyone know if the above had another daughter named Harriet. any help would be greatly appreciated!

St Paul Cemetery Mineral Point Wisconsin Quinn family

I am trying to locate the tombstone for John Quin (Quinn) died 1889 and Catherine Lenahan Quin (Quinn)died 1907. Various family members believe they are buried in St Paul as this was an irish cemetery back in the late 1880's. Also, Catherines parents and brothers lived in Mineral Point so we believe that they were buried their with her family. John & Catherine raised their family in Kendall Wisconsin outside Darlington. If you could even just help me with a phone number to contact the cemetery to try to find their plot I would be grateful.

Bohemian's from Cobb - Highland area in 1860's and 1870's

Looking for any information about the Bohemians living in the Cobb - Highland area during the 1860's and 1870's - especially any that immigrated from the area around Caslav, Bohemia. Gg-grandfather, Vaclav Beranek came to Cobb in 1862 with children Katherina, Mary, Jan and Joseph. His wife Anna Volencova died in Bohemia before they left, and his daughter Barbara came with her husband Karel Wesely in 1864 to Cobb and about 10 years later, they resettled in eastern Nebraska. Katherina Beranek married Andreas Fritsch and remained in the Cobb area with descendants today still in that area. Mary Beranek married Frank Otradovsky and they came to Nebraska in the 1870's. Jan Beranek married Albina Vopalensky in 1870 and moved to Nebraska. My g-grandfather Joseph Beranek married Katerina Ruzicka in Eden Township of Iowa County in 1880 before coming to Nebraska. Looking for any information about her family. Her marriage license showed her parents were John and Marie Ruzicka, though I don't believe they ever came to America. She came to the Cobb area in 1874 with ?brother/uncle? Albert Ruzicka and his wife Anna and their son Frank. Especially interested finding out more about Albert Ruzicka and his descendants.

There's a Chris and Peter Nankey living in Highland. I'm not sure how they would be related to Dorothy. I don't have much information on the Nankey family because I'm not related to that family, but my niece and nephews are related. Dorothy is their great, grandmother. So any information would be truely appreciated. Thank you. Mark

Seeking obituary for Henry Nichols/Nicholls, who arrived in 1847 from Cornwall and first settled in Mineral Point, WI. In 1848, his wife and 7 children arrived from Cornwall and the family moved to a farm in British Hollow, Grant Co., WI. In 1855, the family moved to the Upper Peninsula of MI where Henry was employed by the Central Mine in Houghton Co., MI. In 1856, he became the first casualty at the Central Mine when he died on April 10th as the result of a mining accident in Shaft #2. He and his wife likely had many relatives in the Mineral Point community so I was hoping to find mention of his death and additional clues in an obituary. We have no idea where he was buried and are hoping that an obituary was printed which might indicate exactly what happened to him. Many thanks!

Joni Leffler
TX
i am looking for infomation on William Henry green married to sarah they came to the U.S.

I`ve found some of the records on line for this cemetery. Does anyone know how to go about getting more info? Is there a church that is affiliated with this cemetery?Would there be sexton records?

There is a stone that says Jenkins, gives dates and nothing else. I`d like to know the first name of the person buried there. There are several Jenkins there so I`m assuming they`re related and this may be the father.

thanks,
CJ in Iowa

DAVEY FAMILY OF MINERAL POINT

Joseph Davey married Eliza A. Martin in Mineral Point, Wisconsin on October 22, 1861. In the 1870 Census for Platteville, Grant County, Eliza Davey and her three children are listed as Elenora (8yrs), Joseph E. (6yrs), and Frank S. (5yrs). My research concerns the son Joseph E. Davey and always leads me back to the name Edward Joseph Davey. The next time these children show in a census, namely the 1880 census, I found Eliza remarried to Thomas Jenkins and Nora Davey and Frank Davey living with them. The Joseph E. Davey I am looking for appears to be working on a farm owned by Joseph Conley and his son Joseph Conley. Is it possible that my Joseph E. Davey started going by the name Edward J. Davey so as not to be confused by all of the other Joseph's in the Conley household? Any help with these names would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Mary A. (DAVEY) Jones
