I just figured out the connection between J.Scott Blackwell and George C.Flanner-they were cousins. It seems George's mother Sabina Silverthorn and J.Scott's mother Martha Silverthorn were sisters. It pays to do the research here on ancestry. At the time (1904) that Flanner-Steger Land & Lumber Company was created in this unnamed town, there was already a Flanner WI after George, President and a Steger Ill after John V.Steger, V.President (the man who made pianos from the N.WI wood), it makes sense that they named it after Blackwell.

I recently found my moms birth certificate and saw my grandmother was born in Forest, County i believe Crandon. I was wondering if anyone has any information about Dorothy Coleman or her mother Gertrude America Ash. I never knew my Great Grandfather's name but have been looking for it since 2009. I have been told Russel or Reuben Mcmillan, William Robert Coleman, I was hoping to find something to help me sort it out

I guess this proves that old posts never die. Thanks for your info. It is the most probable explanation of how Blackwell and Blackwell Junction, WI got it's name. In 1999 I was actively trying to identify and research as many Blackwell place names as I could find. I'm not so active any more, but will add this info to my data.

Likely after the company president-see below from 1904
Flanner and Steger already had towns named after them.

THE FLANNER-STEGER CO.
The Flanner-Steger Land & Lumber Co.,
of Chicago, was granted a certificate of incorporation
by the secretary of the State of Illinois
last week, with a capital of $25,000. The
officers are: President, G. C. Flanner; vicepresident,
J. V. Steger; second vice-president,
G. H. Fuller; secretary, J. Scott Blackwell;
treasurer, J. Howard McEldowney.
Tt is the purpose of the incorporators to
operate saw mills, market lumber and dispose
of the clearing land for farming purposes. A
tract of 25,000 acres has been purchased in
Forest countv, Wisconsin.

Karla ... I've been trying to find a link between John and Conrad for a while now. Conrad was born 23 Jan 1825 in Heedesheim (??) Hesse (sometimes listed as Germany, other times as Prussia.) My John was born 18 Jan 1835 in Wonsheim, Hesse, Germany. John's other siblings were Henry (b. 1837) and Margareth (b. ~1836) -- who came to the USA in 1855 with their mother (Anna Maria) and father Heinrich/Henry. ... I'm not sure when John came -- possibly 1852 -- and if there were other siblings. Does any of this sound promising?

I don't have access to Ruth's obit, but on a hunch after finding a Ruth Castellion in the 1930 census in the same town as Peter (Ross, Forest County), I did some newspaper checking for the Castellion name, and found Ruth's father's obit, Charles Castellion.
Hope this helps.
Pine Hill Cemetery / Armstrong Creek (Autowski)

I am looking for a possible updated list of burials in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Armstrong Creek, WI (I have this website, but it hasn't been updated since 2007:http://fvgs.wetpaint.com/page/Forest+County,+Armstrong+Creek... and I also have: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wi/forest/cemetery/photo-index...). It appears that several Autowski family members may be buried there - some under their married name. It's interesting that the bodies of family members who died in other states were returned to be buried in Pine Hill.

Does anyone recognize the Autowski name or is this a common occurrence with family plots? I believe Bruno and Anne Autowski were the head of this family line and I already have their headstone picture.

Thank you for you help !!

I am researching the family of my father(step), Felix John Grumann, brother to Louise (Grumann) Gotz. I have some early photos of her and her children that I would be happy to share. I can't remember what Norman looked like and would appreciate help in identifying some of the people in the photos. Also, I would appreciate any stories of Louise's father and family. I often visited Louise's family when I was living in Milwaukee. The kids are vivid images and so is the house and Louise, but for some reason I cannot put a face to Norman.

These include a Henry Boehler (1916). Other surnames referenced with Boehler include Schweig Guenther and Weyenberg Mueller Wegemann.
Contact me for more information.
gary.rebholz@gmail.com
originator/editor/compiler

I'm not sure if this will help, but the EDs that I was looking for had changed from 1930 to 1940. If you know the 1930 ED, this website will convert it to the 1940 ED:
http://stevemorse.org/census/unified.html

My uncles, Carl and Walter KLOK, owned a farm on Stevens Lake from the 1920s until 1961. They and their neighbors on Lilypad Road appeared in the 1930 census (ED 21-1) but are missing from the 1940.
Since they are close to the Florence County line I checked the EDs there, too. No luck.
Has anyone else had problems finding their 1940 people in Forest County?

This may be Cecelia's 2nd husband with a 2nd wife Mary & 2 stepchildren. If this is him, then I would look in Forest County death records for the years 1920 to 1930 for Cecelia Lakomy. I couldn't find her in the Illinois death index. Maybe Andrew gave the Garley children to the grandparents, then went back to Chicago after Cecelia died? Or maybe Cecelia divorced Andrew? So, then she may have died after 1930.
RP
-----------------
1930 United States Federal Census
Name: Andrew Lakomy
Gender: Male
Birth Year: abt 1897
Birthplace: Poland
Race: White
Home in 1930: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
Marital Status: Married
Immigration Year: 1913
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary Lakomy
Father's Birthplace: Poland
Mother's Birthplace: Poland

Household Members: Name Age
Andrew Lakomy 33
Mary Lakomy 37
Louise Kawula 17 stepdaughter
John Kawula 13 stepson
-------------
Cook County, Illinois Death Index, 1908-1988
Name: Andrew Lakomy
Death Date: 7 Nov 1930
Death Location: Cook County, IL
File Number: 6029792
Archive collection name: Cook County Genealogy Records (Deaths)
Archive repository location: Chicago, IL
Archive repository name: Cook County Clerk
-----------------
"Illinois, Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947,"
Name: Andrew Lakonry
Titles and Terms (original):
Death Date: 07 Nov 1930
Death Place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
Gender: Male
Marital Status:
Race or Color:
Age:
Estimated Birth Year:
Birth Date: 25 Mar 1897
Birthplace: Trzesc, Poland
Father: John Lakonry
Father's Titles and Terms (original):
Father's Birth Place: Poland
Mother: Anna Krzyminska
Mother's Titles and Terms (original):
Mother's Birth Place: Poland
Occupation:
Residence:
Street Address:
Spouse: Mary
Spouse's Titles and Terms (original):
Spouse's Birthplace:
Burial Date:
Burial Place:
Cemetery:
Informant:
Additional Relatives:
Digital Folder Number: 4204464
Image Number: 2671
Film Number: 1892692
Volume/Page/Certificate Number: rn 29792
Source Citation
"Illinois, Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N3W1-FVT : accessed 16 April 2012), Andrew Lakonry (1930).

Hi Tigger, I am not related. I think I found John, Elizabeth, & Raymond "Garley" in the 1920 census with parents Andrew & Cecilia Lakomy. All had the last name of Lakomy. I have a gut feeling this is them. The ages fit for the 3 children. Plus, they were the next family down from the Thomas Slubowski family on the same census page (1920).

Is it possible that Cecilia married a 2nd time to a John Garley, and he gave the children his last name?

1920 United States Federal Census
Home in 1920: Caswell, Forest, Wisconsin

Andrew Lakomy, head, age 23 [33], born about 1897[abt 1887] Poland, parents born Poland, immigration 1914, alien

Cecilia Lakomy, wife, age 21[31], born about 1899[abt 1889] Poland, parents born Poland, immigration 1914, alien

John Lakomy, son, age 4, born about 1916 Illinois, parents born Poland

Elizabeth Lakomy, daughter, age 3, born about 1917 Wisconsin, parents born Poland

Raymond Lakomy, son, age 1, born about 1919 Wisconsin, parents born Poland

Raymond Garley was my grandfather. I've been looking for information on his parents, John & Celia (my dad thought it was Cecilia?). Have you found any additional information beyond the 1930 census of them living with their Grandparents?

Guess this makes us cousins in some way? :)

We are related to the Kendley's. Palmer Kendley was my husband's great grandfather, his parent's were Edward Kendley and Catharine Sullivan. They lived in the Stephensville area of Wisconsin. From what we know they came New York, possibly Ireland before that. There are also Kendley's (from Edward's third wife) that lived in the Crandon area.

I am also trying to find any connection related to the Masse family. My grandfather was Alfred Masse and was married to Simone Biort in the early 1900's. My father was Michel Masse who had 5 other siblings...Terese, Andre, Philippe, Agnes and Francis. They lived in Lille, France. My father was the only one in his family to immigrate to the US in the 1940's. The rest of the family has already perished or is still living in various locations in France. If anyone has any information on the genealogy, I would definitely be interested!
Thanks much!

Ann,

The Crandon Public Library has access to some Wisconsin newspapers. I was able to find the following news article in the Rhinelander papers regarding the Toppings. Unfortunately our obituary index is not yet complete for the year 1932. We do offer look-up services at our webpage at www.crandonpl.org or their are look-up services available through the Forest County Historical Society at www.forestcountyhistory.org. Please contact me at info@crandonpl.org for additional information.

Michelle

New North. Rhinelander Wisconsin. Thursday. August 19, 1915. page 7.

"Mr. and Mrs. Frank Topping move to Cavour Friday where they will make their home with their sons".

New North. Rhinelander Wisconsin. Thursday, December 10, 1914. page 17. "Frank Topping returned from a visit with his sons in Newald Monday."

New North. Rhinelander Wisconsin. Thursday, July 1, 1915. page 1.

"DAVIS-TOPPING

At St. Augustine's church Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock Mr. Harvey Pearson Davis and Miss Oral Ellen Topping were united holy matrimony by Father Campbell Gray. The attendants and the others of the bridal party were composed of members of the two families. Mr. and Mrs. Davis left on a wedding trip in the southern part of the state on the 10:25 Northwestern train Wednesday forenoon.

Miss Topping is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Topping, residents of this city for the last three years. She is an amiable young lady and her friends are many.

Mr. Davis is an employe of the Rhinelander Paper company and is a young man well spoken of by all who have his acquaintance.

The young couple will reside on the south side."

I have been researching the family of Peter Alphonso Hoffman and Catherine Collins of Wisconsin. I have been unable to locate some information on all the family members and have yet to find a death date and place for either of them.
WHAT I DO KNOW: Peter Alphonso Hoffman was born Dec 1867 in Fond du Lac Co., WI to Peter Hoffman (son of Anthany/Anton and Catharine Hoffmann from Germany) and Selina (Caelena) Wattier (dau of Clovis Wattier and Anna Marie Lippert). his mother died in 1868. His father married Theresia Menne, and they had Joseohine, Anna, Joseph L. Albert and Marry V. Hoffmann.
1870Census: Brothertown, Calumet, Wisconsin
1880Census: Brighton, Marathon, Wisconsin
Marriage: 25 May 1897 in Marathon Co., Wisconsin to Kate Collins (b.May 1872, WI) daughter of Pat Collins and Helen Deneen.
Child: Mark Hoffman, b. 23 Nov 1899 at Wabeno, Forest, Wisconsin. [deceased by 1905 census]
1900Census: Cavour, Forest, Wisconsin 1905Census: Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
Child: Esther E. Hoffman (b. 1901-1903, WI)
Child: Helen M. Hoffman, born 22 Feb 1903 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Married Elbert Aaron "Happy" Spencer in 1926 Forest Co., Wisconsin. Their children are John Mark, Jean Helen, Elbert Edward, David Arthur and Mary Ann Katherine. 1910Census: Laona, Forest, Wisconsin 1920Census: Laona, Forest, Wisconsin
1930Census: Eau Pleine, Marathon, Wisconsin [Pete is living with half-brother Joseph and his family]
1930Census: Laona, Forest, Wisconsin [ Katherine is living with daughter Helen Spencer and family]

What happened to Esther after her graduation from Laona HS in 1921?
What happened to Pete and Kate after 1930? They are not in Wisconsin death indexes on ancestry. [I couldn't find a good match]
Does anyone have these people in there tree?
Is there anyone available in the mentioned areas, to do look-ups?
I have checked WIGENWEB and the local historical and Genealogical societies, as well as searching any indexes in the area libraries. I even did google searches!
Any help much appreciated.
