Fayette and Mary Parcells

Fayette and Mary Parcells are siblings of my great great grandmother, Cynthia Ann (Parcells) DeVoe. I have death dates of April 6, 1891 for Fayette and April 8, 1891 for Mary. I'm hoping someone could check the death records to see how these two died and other info listed, and find obits for them. I'm wondering if there was some kind of accident or sickness that took their lives only two days apart.

Looking for the obit or any other info on Frank Garrett Johnson b. 15 Sept 1879 d. 7 Mar 1972. He is listed in the 1930 census in North Fond du Lac occupation as house carpenter with his wife Jesse who is listed as age 47 born in Indiana. They also had a daughter Evelyn who was 17 born in Minnesota.

mystery burials in Rienzi

While researching Rienzi cemetery records, I came across two unidentified burials.
One was for an ill man, who died at the police station while waiting for a doctor. A card in his pocket had the name "Louis Krusie" so that was the name he was buried with. The date was April 3, 1942 and his age was guessed to be 55.
The second mystery man, was another man who was found in a shack in Wilsons Woods in 1922. He was barely alive, but refused to give his name or any information about himself. The hospital told him that they needed his name at least, so he gave them the name James Weber, and his address as "here today and there tomorrow". He was mistakenly identified as William John Johnston a week later, by a woman in Milwaukee whose husband had deserted her, until her husband came forward to say he was not dead. So the mystery man still is buried as James Weber, but this has never been verified.
Both burials were paid for by the county, and in Rienzi Cemetery.

Would someone tha has access to FDL county cemetery books be kind enough to look up a burial location for me? I just know its in Fond Du Lac County. I'm looking for the burial location of Bridget Donnelly Corcoran, she was born abt 1800 in Meath, Ireland and died in Fond Du Lac, WI approx Oct 1879. Sons Michael and Peter were likely the only 2 of several children that would have also been in FDL. If someone would be so kind, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

What about "Scott Street" Lutheran Church?

Hello,

I''m looking for more information about a Lutheran church on Scott Street that was listed in an obituary from 1923. Is this now the home of a Baptist Church? Or did this church move somewhere else/or get renamed since then??

And, whatever the name, where/how would I find records of church members for this church?? The burial for this person was at Hillside Cemetery if that helps any, I imagine it was closeby. (family of STREESE)

This obituary was found in the Brandon Times, published in Brandon, Wisconsin. Issue - Thursday, May 8, 1947 on Page 1 / Column 2.
Funeral services for Mrs. John Schmuhl, who died suddenly at her home south of Fairwater Saturday, were held Tuesday afternoon from the Fairwater church with burial in the Fairwater cemetery.
She was born March 15, 1885, in Ripon, the daughter of August and Pauline Albrecht, and was married May 3, 1905.
Surviving are her widower; six sons: Arnold, Markesan; Harry of Ripon; Lloyd, Brandon, Clarence, Fairwater; Raymond and John at home; three daughters: Mrs. Fred Freiheit, Mrs. John Berndt, Markesan; Mrs. Hubert Silgman, Fairwater; a brother, August Albrecht of Reeds Corners; three sisters: Mrs. Adolph Denbrook, Mrs. Henry Grahn, Ripon; Mrs. Henry Wichman of Clintonville.

Postnote: Laura is the sister-in-law of my great-grandfather, Edward Schmuhl. My research indicates her maiden name to be Laura Sander and her parents names to be: August Sander and Pauline nee Albrecht. I believe the newspaper article incorrectly printed her maiden surname. I also believe her sister's married name to be: Mrs. Herbert Silgman not Hubert as printed in the newpaper article.

Looking for more information regarding this family:
CWA Friedrich, or any of 11 children born to CWA Friedrich, of Fondulac, born 1856 in Carzig, Brandenburg, Germany. He died 1913 and was active in the Ladies Axillary Association Fond du Lac(insurance organization) and trustee of Estabrooks Cemetery. He had a brother Reverend Friedrich of Friedens Evangelical Association in Miwaukee, who pastored there in Milwaukee 1912-1916. My STREESE family lived both in Ripon, Fond du Lac and Milwaukee.

There was a CWA FRIEDRICH very involved in that church during that time, he died 1913.

I am searching for my 3rd great-grandfather, Joseph LaDuke, who settled in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin during the time of the Civil War. He was a Frenchman from Quebec, and first appears in Vermont, and later on the 1860 Census of Oconto County, Wisconsin. I have located his 1880 Census listing through the records of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I wish to know if anyone is researching Joseph or his family. I have pictures of one of his daughter's homes- Delphine (LaDuke) Errard (1851-1933) of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Her husband, Calice, was a grocer in your city in 1880. Thank you for any help.

I am presently trying to determine the maiden name of Joseph's wife, she appears on Census records as "Margaret." I descend through their child, Peter "Argetpeter" LaDuke who settled in White Earth, Becker County, Minnesota. He is my 2nd great-grandfather, and he married a Chippewa Indian named Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bellecourt. It is called The History of Fond du Lac County as told by its Place-Names, by Ruth Shaw Worthing, 1976
It has proved to be such a valuable reference work, that the State Historical Society digitized the book, and made it available online.

Need church of Pastor Friederich, 308 Concordia

Hello,

I'm looking for a church of ~1910-1915 era that was headed by a Pastor Friedrich(surname), I'm not sure if the 308 Concordia was his residence address or church address?? He officiated at a wedding on Concordia St in Milwaukee at a different church 1915(I believe Euphrata was the name of that church).

And/or where could I find more information about this Pastor Friedrich? Or the church?? Does the building still exist?

I am searching for the Zabel family who were living in Fond Du Lac area. Albert was born on 1-26-1896 in Marquette Twp, Greenlake Co., WI and died 3-10-1992. He is buried in Estabrooks Cemetery. His wife was Olga M. Shrader who was born on 1-12-1902 and died 4-24-1972 and is in the same cemetery. Their daughter is Mildred May (Zabel) Eisele.

Albert's father was John C. Zabel and was married to Theresa Sell.

Bryan Farrell in Eden Township

I am looking for Bryan Farrell who was born in Ireland in 1812, landed in New York in 1831, was a member of Captain Sefeld's company of Texas Volunteers who fought in the Black Hawk War. For his service, Bryan was given land in Eden Township, Fon Du Lac, about 1850. He married Ann Donnelly in 1851 and had 3 sons by her. He sold his land in 1867 and went to California where his grave stone in Santa Clara says he died in 1868.

In the 1850 census, he is listed as Brine Farl - Bryan Farrell with a heavy irish accent, don't you think? He had 3 children and no wife then. The youngest, Eliza, shows up as a member of the family in 1860 with Ann as the mom and some little brothers. But she's too old to have been Ann's daughter in this marriage. I believe Bryan was married before but can't find any record of it. I have Bryan's land records, his naturalization papers, census records, the record of his marriage to Ann but I can't find him any time before 1847, when he applied for his naturalization papers in Fon Du Lac. Can anyone help me? Does anyone recognize this family? Bryan and Ann owned 114 acres in section 29 of Eden in 1862. His name is listed as R. Farrell but it should be a B. If you have any ideas, let me know!

Oh and one other thing.... the old family story says that Bryan was the first mayor of Eden Township but from what I've been reading about Eden online, I don't think that's true. So I wonder if there is another town in Fon Du Lac that he was perhaps a mayor of???

I am lookng for informaton about the August Ferg family. August's last name also appeared as Fark on one document. He married Wilhelmina Abraham (also listed as Abram) before 1869 and one of their sons (Fred) was listed as being born in Ripon, Fond du Lac County. The family moved to Chippewa County by the 1880 US census.

I do not have any information on either of their parents or when they immigrated. If any one has any information about them, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them.

I am looking for the name of the parents of Helen (Helena) Schneider (not sure of the spelling) born 2 April 1866 in Fond du Lac and dying 8 Feb. 1936 in Sheboygan, Sheboygan county. Her mother may have been married first to Heinrich Romag who died in the Civil War in 1864. Helen's obit includes a brother, Joseph Romag. She married Ernst Selle in 1881.

What was in Ripon circa 1875 that would bring a young teenage girl from central New York? Her father died when she was a toddler, he mother re-married. The newspaper account:
DIED VANHOUSEN--Suddenly of hemmorhage of the lungs in Ripon Wis. June 11th 1876, Ida Vanhousen, only child of Mrs. Helen McGee of Carterville.

Was there a tuberculosis (consumption) facility there?
Was there a school for young ladies?

Tintype photographers in Fond du Lac

Is anyone familiar with what photographers in Fond du Lac made tintypes? I have two that have the exact same background. One is my great-grandfather (Frank Waller) in a derby holding a tall mug of beer with another man. The other I was just given by my uncle (Dave Ottery), that shows almost the exact same pose at a slightly different angle and the two mugs of beer.

I'm trying to figure out what photographer took these so I can determine the unidentified men in the "new" tintype. I'm guessing this is 1900 or so, as my great-grandfather looks almost identical to his wedding photo from 1902.

I've lightened the scans to show the background better. Do these photos look familiar to anyone? Thank you.

Does someone have list of Fond du Lac County residents killed in the Civil War? The1863 funeral/burial records for St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church list a Mr. Thürwächter (Thuerwaechter, later usually spelled Thurwachter) killed in the battle at Richmond in May 1863. I like to learn his given name and see if I can tie him to a Fond du Lac family.

The records of the original 8 acres of Rienzi Cemetery, commonly referred to as the Old Grounds, are being extracted and posted on the WIGEN website for Fond du Lac county. The first portion, OG1 North, is now online and can be found on:

Please note - this is not just an extraction of burial records, but includes tombstone inscriptions for comparison. The first section copied also includes the two lots that were used for singles burials (where family bought just a single grave, and not a family plot) and the majority of those in the single section are in unmarked graves.

The additional sections will be posted as they are completed. Please note - this is JUST the Old Grounds.

Immigrants from Posen in Ripon, WI

My mother-in-law's family came to Ripon in the 1860s from Posen, Germany. Posen is now the Polish province of Poznan. The 1920 Ripon census shows many immigrants from Posen, some giving German as their native language and some giving Polish. Can anyone help with the following questions?
What is the history of Posen/Poznan going between Germany and Poland? Dates? Reasons?
Why did so many leave Posen and how did they come to be in Ripon? Some obviously came to join family members already there, but what was the initial attraction?
What was their most likely port of departure from Europe and port of entry in the US?

Looking for Descendants of Richard and Ann Jones Roberts of Lamartine and Fond du Lac County, WI. They married about 1856 in Oneida County, NY and moved to Wisconsin around 1866. Their children were David, Owen, Mary Ellen (married William Owens), Laura Ann (married Dwight Merrill), Lydia, Morris Henry, Katherine, Emma (married Joseph Homiston), Benjamin and Richard.

A requiem mass will be read in Cleveland on Wednesday and the body then will be brought to Fond du Lac where it will be in state at the Zacherl Funeral home. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Angels cemetery, Osceola.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her widower; one son, Duncan, Cleveland; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Zickert, Milwaukee, Mrs. Clayton Templan, Appleton, and Mrs. Thomas Mauerer, Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; and five sisters, Mrs. James Frazier, Fond du Lac, Mrs. Frank Farrow and Mrs. Oscar Michels, Ventura, Calif., Mrs. George Herdian, Milwaukee, and Mrs. William Ryan, Oakfield.

Four brothers also survive. They are Clarence DeVoy, Martin DeVoy, and Justin DeVoy, all of Reeseville, and James DeVoy of Colorado Springs, Colo.

My great-grandfather, Frank Waller, died in this house in Fond du Lac in 1916. The house is long gone and is now part of the small park between Second and Third Streets, just east of Park Avenue.

Does anyone out there know if a photo of this house might exist? One of my thoughts was perhaps one was taken before the house was razed for the park, but I don't even know when the park was erected.

My grandfather was Joel C. Porter.His father was Silas Porter. His father was Joel Porter. Joel Porter was married to Hanna Powers. Silas Porter was married to Anna Sherman. Her father was David Sherman. They all lived in Fond du Lac county Wisconsin between 1850's and 1870's. I need proof for all this and can't find it. PLEASE HELP.

Mrs. Jennie Havey, 85, of 4012 Mackland NE, Albuquerque, NM, formerly of the Town of Osceola, died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital, Albuquerque.

She was born in the Town of Osceola in 1885, a daughter of Byron and Catherine Roltgen Graham. She was married in 1913 to William Havey at Our Lady of Angels Church, Armstrong.

Mrs. Havey moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1958 to reside with her son, Eldon.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Havey is survived by two daughters, Miss Kathryn Havey of Milwaukee and Mrs. James Foy of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, and at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Church, Armstrong. The Rev. Joseph J. Fischer will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Havey, who died Jan. 20 in Albuquerque, NM, were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Whig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, and at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Church, Armstrong.

The Rev. Joseph J. Fischer officiated. The Altar Society attended in a body. Burial was in the church cemetery.

John Ramthun, Ages 76, Is stricken while watching Cows in pasture near his farm house.
While tending a herd of cattle in a pasutre on his farm near Campbellsport, John Ramthun, aged 76 years, was stricken with a paralytic stroke at 11:30 o'clock Saturday morning, dying a few minutes later. Mr. Ramthun owned a farm near Round Lake and on Saturday morning drove his cattle to a pasture, remaining with the herd to watch it. It was only a few minutes after he suffered the paralytic stroke that his plight was discovered and help was summoned. Before he could be removed to his home, he was dead. He leaves a widow. Johanna; two sons, Henry and Louis, both of Round Lake; and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Schrubbe, and Wauwatosa, and Mrs. John Bast, Campbellsport.

Mrs. Miller is survived by one daughter, Mrs Raymond Matte of Milwaukee; and four sisters, Mrs. Anna Deibert of Green Lake, Mrs. Dora Denzin of Ripon, Mrs. Lillie Timm of Ripon and Mrs Louise Hielke of Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.

After a brief illness, Mrs. Martha Rahl, aged 28 years, a native of Ripon and resident of Fond du Lac for the last 10 years, died Thursday at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born Septmeber 9, 1905, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Krueger, of Ripon and her early life was spent in this city. Following her marriage to Herman Rahl, they have resided in Fond du Lac. Surviving the deceased are her husband, two daughters, Blanche and Dorothy; her parents, two sisters, Mrs. George Bingen and Mrs. Viola Otter, of Fond du Lac, and four brothers, Otto and Alfred Krueger, of Ripon; Edward of Waupun and August Krueger of Antigo. Funeral services were conducted from the family residence on Satterle Street and from the Church of Peace Saturday afternoon with the Rev. William Hackmann officiating. Burail was in Rienzi cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Herman Rahl Dies at 81; Services Set

Herman Gustave Rahl, 81, of Route 1, Eden, died at 1:40 p.m. Monday at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born February 19, 1890 in Germany, a son of Karl and Bertha Hilke Rahl He married Martha Krueger and she preceded him in death on March 1, 1934. Mr. Rahl was employed at the Fred Rueping Leather Company for over 20 years and later worked for the Fond du Lac Stone Company and the Eden Stone Company. He was a veteran of World War I during which he served with the U.S. Army. Surviving are two sons, Herman B Rahl and Wayne D Rahl both of the city; two daughters, Mrs. Blance Snyder and Mrs. Arnold Rost both of Roue 1, Eden; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-greandchildren; two brothers, Alfred Roehl of Princeton and William Rahl of the city, and a sister Mrs. Ida Prellwitz of Ripon. In addition to his wife, Mr. Rahl was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home with the Rev. Martin Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Eastbrooks Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was a member of Our Saviour's United Church of Christ, Ripon. Mrs. Krueger is survived by one son, Arthur; five daughters, Mrs. Florence Aliota, Mrs. Ruth Aliota, and Mrs. Delores Keast, all of Milwaukee, Mrs. Doris Clark, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Evelyn Ives, Ripon; one sister, Mrs. Ida Blake, Green Lake; three brothers, William Rahl and Herman Rahl, Fond du Lac, and Alfred Rahl, Princeton; 29 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Frederick J. Hilke, 74, of 21 E. Cotton St., died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Hospital. Mr. Hilke was born September 6, 1893 in Germany the sone of Adolph and Augusta Auttenburg Hilke, He came with his parents to this country at the age of 6. He married Lillian Schultz, April 3, 1921, in Green Lake. Mr. Hilke had farmed in the Green Lake and Markesan areas and moved to Fond du Lac in 1950. He was an employe of Kiekhaefer Mercury, retiring in 1959. Mr. Hilke had served with the U.S. Army during World War 1. He as a member of Hope Lutheran Church. Survivors included his widow; three sons, Gene, city, Edward, Rockford Ill., and Lawrence, Ripon; one daughter, Mrs. Russell Schultz, Fox Lake; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, William of Ripon and Carl, Milwaukee; and one sister, Mrs. James McGraw, Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Zacherl Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Friday and that at Hope Lutheran Church until the 2 p.m. funeral service, Rev. Willard F. Hanser officiating. Ripon-August A. Hielke, 76, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his home at 316 Doty St., Ripon.
Born in Minsk, Russia, August 26, 1883, son of Adolph and Augusta Ottenberg Hielke, he married Martha Kobernick June 16, 1907, in Green Lake. A retired farmer, he had resided in Town of Brooklyn and in Ripon.
Survivors: his wife; daughters Mrs. Alvin Rudey, Princeton, Mrs. Ira Hutchison and Mrs. Edwin Priebe, both of Ripon, and Eldin Milwaukee; a sister Mrs. James McGraw, West Allis: nine grandchildrn. and brothers William, Ripon, Fred, Fond du Lac, Carl, West Allis, and Frank, Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, Green Lake, with the Rev. D. E. Hallemeyer in charge.
Interment will be in Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake.
Friends may call at Butzin Funeral Home after noon Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday, and thereafter at the church.

Green Lake-A contracter and builder who lived in Green Lake for the past 53 years, Herman August Kobernik, 86, Green Lake, died this morning at his house after several years of illness.
He was born Dec. 21, 1880 in the Town of Berlin and married Wihelmine Nothnagel on Nov. 3, 1907. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter. He was a member of Peace of Lutheran Church, Green Lake.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martin Mellum and Mrs. Walter Astrach, both of Green Lake; one son, Arnold, Green Lake; six sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hilke, Milwaukee, Mrs. Anne Deibert, Green Lake, and Mrs. Lillie Timm. Mrs. Fred Denzin, Mrs. Paul Miller, and Mrs. Martha Hilke, all of Ripon; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. D. E. Hallemeyer offiliating. Burial will be in Dartford Cemetery.

Resident of City Since Childhood Dies In Hospital After Long Illness

Mrs. Martha Dreis, 51, wife of Chris Dreis, died at 4:05 a.m. today at St. Agnes hospital, where she had been a patient for four years. Mrs. Dreis had been an invalid for 12 years.

Born July 24, 1887 in Oshkosh, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Petersen, she came to this city when 10 years old. Her mother died in this city last Friday. Surviving Mrs. dries are her widower and a sister, Mrs. Walter Langman, of this city. Mrs. Dreis was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis.

The body is at the Murray funeral home, where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral, arrangements for which will be announced later.

I'm mainly looking for info on a JULIEN BENOIT & or his family.
All I know about him is he was a Baptismal sponsor to my G Grandmother Marcelline St Antoine/Anthony at St Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac in March of 1858.

It does not say he was a Proxy sponsor so he must not have lived to far away or maybe did & came to stay with family for a brief visit.
We just do not know.
We do know that her godmother was from the Fond du Lac area.

We know he is related to my G G Grandmother Matilda Benoit St Antoine but how is the question?

He had two spouses the first one was: Elizabeth Ebeling born on: June 28, 1875, and the second: Anna Carolina Bast born on: December 9, 1875.

Researching the Fond Du Lac family of Mary Louise(McKay)Ryan. She was married to Patrick G Ryan,and was the daughter of Donald McKay and Henrietta(Etta)??Possibly Rohr/Rook. Married name at death was Gorman.
Mary is my husbands grandmother. All information I have on possible names was given to me by a daughter of Marys but there is little known.

Was told that Etta was at somepoint a Heathcote. She was buried in Fond Du Lac with the family. Mother believed to be Louise, possibly Kapsell/Koepsell.

In census I found a Louise married to Henry C Heathcote, with Stella and Etta Rook as step daughters. I am trying to find out if this Henrietta/Etta is the one thaat went on to marry Donald McKay and is mother to Mary Louise McKay-Ryan.
Mary lived in Fond Du Lac with family members in census Caird and other family were the Rottmans.
Also trying to find out more information on Donald Mckay. He died before 1920.
