I sent about 40 tombstone photos of St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sevastopol, Door, Wisconsin using the form online about a month ago. The pictures are not posted yet and I have tried contacting Tina Vickery, the Archives manager. However, both email addresses I had for her are not working. Would anyone know how to contact Tina or if there is someone new that is the Archives Manager? I still have the email confirmations for the submissions I made and really wanted the pictures online by the time my cousin visits Door County in less than two weeks so she knows what tombstones she needs to photograph while there. Thanks for all your help. :) Mindy
mindy_chad_mclane@yahoo.com

John came in 1878 and Karen in 1879. Before John and Karen her brothers Ole, Nels and Hans Tostensen came over. But, I think Tosten Hansen may have come with them. Does anyone have any information to support this theory of mine.

I am checking up on a telephone call made many years ago. The norwegians in this area inquired about a name Husby who came from Trondheim, Norway. I believe the name had a e extra. Huseby or Husbey. Or other variation. The person who called was Sue Spell.
I would welcome all kinds of info that may help me find norwegian roots in this region. Thank you.

I am hoping to find something that would tie to a Jacob Johnson, Johanson, Johnsen,Jonsen, Jonson, etc. Born 1861. He had a brother in Dunn county.

This is my ggrandfather. He died May 25, 1884. He lived in Clay Banks supposedly. There is no courthouse record of his death only a small newspaper clipping in the Ahnapee Record newspaper dated 29 May 1884. Wasn't Clay Banks in Door County at that time? Also, what happens to the undertakers records? Are they just disposed of from such a long time ago or kept in the Historical Society somewhere? I am looking for any news item or clue that I can use for documentation.

We are looking for information on Nelson Bristol. We believe Nelson was born in Canada around 1815-1820. He lived in Racine County for a short time and then eventually moved to the Claybanks area in Door County where he was listed as living in the 1880 census. We assume he died between 1880 and 1900 since we cannot find any record for him in the 1900 census. We have no record of where he died or what happened to him after 1880.

While reading William Storrs Reynolds' obituary (_Door County Advocate_, 22 October 1926), I discovered that he had a second wife and two daughters that, as far as I know, are essentially undocumented. Further research revealed that he married Rose M. Geitner from Egg Harbor after his first wife (Lionne Anna Cochems) died. The couple had two daughters: Katherine (also spelled Kathryn) and Agnes, both born in the early 1920s. Both William and Rose died in the late 1920s, and the girls were adopted by the Pisko family.

I have no information on either child after their adoption. Does anyone know what became of them?

Thanks,
Elizabeth

George F. Poull was the eldest son of Andreas and Margaret Krier-Poull. He was born in Forestville, Door, Wisconsin on 23 Feb 1872 and died in Forestville, Door, Wisconsin on 25 Oct 1872. He was buried in Ahnapee, Door, Wisconsin but I have no idea in which cemetery he was interred. Can anyone way up there in Door County give me any leads, hints or ideas on how to find his gravesite? Thanks.

Bill

Leonhardt and Lorch families from Selzen, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany that settled in Sturgeon Bay, (and more from Washington Co.)

It happens more than once that the Leonhardt family gets tied into my family tree. SO I am trying to sort the Leonhardt families out.
I found a Registration of Marriages for Christoph Leonhard (no "t") and Catharina Lorch married by Ernst Kudobe on August 12th, 1860 in Granville, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Chris and Catherine later died in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, Wisconsin.
The Leonhardt families and Lorch families were both originally from Selzen, Hesse Darmstadt, Germany as far as I know. The name penetrates a lot of Washington county. There are so many Leonhardt names that it is hard to distinguish which family they belong to and how they are all connected.
Does anyone out there have a connection into the Leonhardt family that could help me sort this tangled mess?
Thanks, Mindy
mindy_chad_mclane@yahoo.com

TAUBE, Herman of Germany--> Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin

I'm looking for more information on Herman Taube (my great grandfather), who as the family story goes was kicked out of Germany for falling in love with a servant girl. He came to america and settled in Sturgon Bay Wisconsin. Year unknown.

Again as the family story goes, the servent girl, name unknown, saved her money, came to america and married Herman Taube. They had a 13 Children (dates unclear) one named Emma who married George E Ellis in 1906. This we have proof of. Thank you Wisconsin historical society!

My guess at the dates would that if Emma was 18 when she married (give or take) she would have been born approx. 1888. the family story says that Herman was about 18 when he left germany. His wife was believed to arrive three years later when he was 21. if they married and had kids right away-- depending on Emma's birth order he could have been born in 1867 or as early as 1850 if we take another 13+ years off for all the other kids. (these dates are all guess's and approx)

I'm hoping to find someone else, perhaps a decendent of one of the other 13 children, who may also know this story, and have more details on herman taube, his wife and their kids.

Emma and george had three children, lucille, Laurence, and Marjorie. Laurence Ellis born in 1912. Laurence married Jean Roberts, and had David Ellis in 1942. that's my dad.

if anyone has any thoughts, stories or clues please contact me, even if they seem farfetched, thanks so much,

A.

I am searching for information on the Ahnapee & Western Railway (into Sturgeon Bay until 1968) and I wonder if there are relatives/families of the men who worked for the railroad in the 1950s and 60s that are still around?

Some of the railroaders were: Frances Renard, "Buster" Warren, Ed Tomjanovich (rumor that he is still alive?), Herb Holschuh, Russ Dean, Bob Ruby, Vern & Erv Bushman, John Rohr, Ted Gartzke, Ed Berning, Jim Roubal (still alive), Osborne...there are a lot of names.

Do you know any of these names, or did you know the men? I'm curious if their families might have stories, photos, or other items that might help in my research? Please contact me if you knew these men or know their families...

I am trying to preserve the memory of the railroad, the men who made it work, and the businesses gave it purpose.
J. A. Whalen - Standard Oil Co. salesman

I recently acquired a box of miscellaneous paper items from a salesman of the Standard Oil Company named J. A. Whalen. The territory covered by this gentleman was the whole of Door and Kewaunee Counties, plus the eastern part of Brown County.

The material includes order tickets, company correspondence, shipping invoices, and blank forms for the 1917-1918 time frame.

Does anyone have an interest in these items, or know someone who would?

A rough description of the items: 12 sales/order ticket books listing most of the businesses that used petroleum products in that era (about 75 tickets per book); more than 10 letters from Standard Oil in Milwaukee; about 70 shipping receipts to locations throughout the three counties but mostly in northern Door County and Sturgeon Bay, and about 15 pads of Standard Oil sales related forms.

Contact me if you are interested in preserving these items. I bought them with the hope that they would aid in my railroad research of the A&W Ry., but they really didn't pan out...

Regards,
Andy Laurent
