Also in the household (the county jail???) is Charley's wife Delia, Joel R Randal, another prisoner, and Fred S Christenson, Dep Sheriff.

Thanks for any info or advice!
Looking for info on the death and burial of George W. WYNACHT, b. abt August 1867 according to the 1900 census. In the 1920 census he is in Webster and we are given to understand he died sometime in the 1930s and was buried in a cemetery outside Webster. I checked the cemetery list for the Webster cemetery that is online and he is not listed there, however, there is no list for

OAK GROVE CEMETERY -- This cemetery is located on the north edge of Webster in the Town of Meenon.

and I am wondering if possibly this is where he is buried.

As he is supposed to have commited suicide it might be an unmarked grave.

Any help SKS could give us would be greatly appreciated.

Annie in Minnesota

I am trying to find information for my great grandmother and great grandfather who immigrated from Sweden around 1868 and were married in Cook Co., IL on 12/27/1872. Names on their marriage license are Franz Herrman Qvarfot and Johanna Mathilda Kihlborg. They are listed on the Burnett Co. census for 1880 through 1910. They had 10 children: Frank D., Tilda, Charles, Hanna, Harry, Minnie, William, Julia, Paul Edwin and my grandmother, Ruth Elizabeth. I have found documents listing the Quarfoot name as Qvarfot, Quarford, Quarfordt, etc. and Johanna (who went by Tilda) has the last names of Kilberg, Kihlborg, Kalberg, Kelberg. I have an estimated death year of 1918 for Franz (Frank) but no death for Tilda. Also, my one living relative is sure that her grandfather lived with them until his death in the 1920's and they called him Charlie. This makes no sense with the other info I have but she is quite sure it was her grandfather Quarfoot. If anyone has any info I'd love to hear from you. My father also grew up in Grantsburg until WWII. His name was Douglas Wedin. He was born in Grantsburg on 9/22/1920.

Can I do it through here, or can I send directly to Merle Wilson??
How are you related to the above? and in which state do you live now? I am in Hawaii, but have many family members in Minn and
Wis, and a good friend who mails any family news from Grantsburg, Wi
The only 2 children I knew were John and Grace--they must have been the last 2 from the above union, and we used to visit with them.
MM

I have been trying to locate information on Charles John Nelson prior to 1910 as I found him and his family in the 1910 and the 1920 Census. However, anything before the 1910 census seem obsolete. His son, Fritz Walter Nelson, is my husband's grandfather. Charles was born in Sweden and was married to Olivia Johansdotter. Fritz was born on 8 May 1896 in Wood Lake, Wisconsin (have also heard Grantsburg). I would appreciate any help or direction anyone may have.

Letters suggest an argument split up the cousins, apparently forever. I would like to find out what happened to Fritz and Helene. She was last found as a matron of the Minneapolis YWCA in 1914.
I have been searching for the past few years and finally found part of this family in Wisconsin. I would like to get copies of obituaries and/or gravestones for this family (Clyde, Frances, James, & Ruth Doran) and am willing to pay for copying and sending. This could possibly be a break through for me!!!!

According to the Social Security Index, there was a Clyde Doran who resided in Webster, Burnett County, Wisconsin, when he died in Mar 1976. On the WIGenWeb, I found him buried in St. John's Cemetery, Burnett County, Wisconsin, along with a Frances A. (d. 1971).

In addition, I believe I found his brother, James W. Doran (d. 22 Dec 1990) in the listing for Oak Grove Cemetery, Burnett County, Wisconsin, along with his wife, Ruth (d. 22 Apr 1999).

Thanks!
Cheryl Bechtel
Gladwin, Michigan

My husband's gggrandfather was Canute Anderson, gggrandmother Catherine Anderson. I am attempting to research this family history. I know that Canute was the founder of Grantsburg, and do have SOME information on him (newspaper articles, the Grantsburg "Strolling Through a Century" book). However, I cannot find anything about Catherine, or her parents (Magnus and Ingred Nelson), her siblings, etc. I am also interested in details regarding the Anderson children (I know many of them passed very young). Also, any information on the Thoresons who settled in the Trade Lake area (Robert Anderson married Isabelle Thoreson, these are my husbands ggrandparents). We would like to make a trip to Grantsburg in the next month or two. ANY tips, information or suggestions would be more than welcome!! Thank you!

Grantsburg - Hospital?

I am having a problem finding a death record for Ola Astrandsson who died and or was buried in Grantsburg in late May 1900. (We know this because of a newspaper article saying that his daughter went to Grantsburg for his funeral at this time.) Are there other cities close by that could be in a different county? Would the main hospital for that area be in Grantsburg at that time? Any suggestions appreciated!

In 1900 she was living next door to her niece Carolina Larson and the latter's husband Lars August Larsson. Nancy Bovy has been very helpful with information on Carolina's descendants, but I can only find this census listing on Anna. Anna came to America with her children Carl Alfred Larsson and Gustaf Hermann Larson. A daughter, Anna Charlotta Larsdotter went to Ramsey Co, MN wth her husband Axel Olson in 1887

Death in Grantsburg about May 21, 1900 (Olson? Astradson? Ostradson? or?)

We know very little about great-grandmother Hannah Astradson (married Horace Peterson) other than that she was born Feb. 3, 1855 in Sweden; died April 24, 1910 in Litchfield, Minnesota; and that her cousins were Peter E. Hanson and Mrs. W. H. Wilcox (also of Minnesota). One other fact is that her father died in Grantsburg, Wis. about May 21, 1900. I can find no record of death or burial in Burnett County that seem to be a possible match. Does anyone have suggestions? Is there an adjacent county where he might have been buried? Many thanks for ANY help! Joanne

Hello, I am searching for any information regarding Sandy Powell (deceased) of Webster, WI. Especially the name/location of a husband/children.
My brother (died last year at 16) had a last wish of repurchasing (if possible) a horse that we had sold them (to help pay for my brother's medical bills). We heard Sandy had died, but would like to find her husband/family to see if they can help us find the whereabouts of my brother's horse. Thank you very much.

Charles J Wold is my grandfather, his parents were Jorgen Olson and Anna Knutson. there were 3 girls and three boys and the family came to Wis from Drammen Norway. with only the boys staying in Wis. Girls and parents went to New York, and parents returned to Norway. I know that we were called "Wahl" at times, but thought it was just anglicized from the Norwegian. A lot of family names were changed, or spelled differently when arriving here.
He was sheriff in Grantsburg Wi in 1885 and said to carry TNT in his fists--"he feared neither man nor beast". He evidently fathered 26 children. His first wife died in childbirth, He had 17 "several sets of twins or triplets, many infant deaths) and I am daughter of his oldest child with wife # 3(total of 8 with Martha Goodsell)Family plot is in Riverside Cemetery Grantsburg, Wi.I got lots of info, new clippings and vital statistics at museum there.
Marlys Wold Matheus

Looking for info (parents, siblings, birth date/location) on Martha Jane (DIXON) CLELAND. She was born about 1862 in Ontario and died December 2, 1942 at home in Danbury, Burnett County. She married Francis Thomas "Frank" CLELAND (1856-1947) on 14 Sep 1881 in Faribault, Rice County, MN. They moved from Rice County, MN to Danbury on October 1, 1919 (after all 8 children were grown) where Frank was a restaurant keeper in Swiss for a while. Frank and Martha lived next door to his sister Amanda Eliza Cleland (1869-1946) and her husband William Henry Manuel (1860-1952) in Danbury. Any help would be wonderful.

Also looking for any tips on the best places in Burnett county to research Danbury and Swiss information (any particular library, newspaper, historical or genealogical offices, etc.).

Charles HENDRICKSON of Town of Marshfield, Grantsburg, WI

Charles Hendrickson listed in 1900 and 1905 census in Town of Marshland.
1903 he was granted 160 acres of land under the Homestead act
" East half of the South East quarter of Section three, and the north half of the north East quarter of the section ten in Township Thirty nine North of Range Seventeen west of the Fourth Principal meridian in Wisconsin,".

Charles was married to wife Hilda Nordberg, they had sons George b. MN 1893, Arthur H. b. MN 1895, daughter Lillian Margaret b. 1897 WI and daughter Frances Aleda b. 1900 WI.

They removed to the Minneapolis area of MN between 1905 and 1910 census.

I am wondering if someone near the local courthouse or County Clerk's office would be willing to hunt down the last remainging puzzle pieces for me on this family.

1) the land. Between 1905 and 1910 they must have either sold it or lost it. Could someone find the land deed for me? I am referring to the subsequent sale, not the original homestead grant which I have. Why did they give up the farm?

2) In the County records, there may be early births and deaths. These three intrique me because of the fact the 1910 census indicated there had been three deceased children.

BIRTHS:
HENDRICKSON Agnes J 02 Apr 1902 0025 000523
HENDRICKSON Albert 11 Aug 1906 0025 001069

THESE deaths were listed pre-1907
HENDRICKSON Agnes Josephine 03 Apr 1902 01 0216 009 2157 154281
HENDRICKSON Albin 13 Oct 1906 01 0280 009 2475 154282
HENDRICKSON Nels 04 Dec 1896 01 0159 009 1904 154362

And this similar one:
HENRIKSON Sylvia Eleanor 04 May 1901 01 0201 009 2088 155129

If someone could look them up to see if the parents names are Charles (or Karl / Carl) and Hilda / Hulda Nordberg Hendrickson/ Henreikson/ Henrikson I would be very grateful.

I am having a difficult time finding the death date of Charles- but I think Harvey had a farm in Grantsburg.
I am trying to find information on the Wold/Wahl and Nylander families. They were in Burnett Co. 1850-1900. Any information would be appreciated. Also would like to know why there is no 1860 census for Burnett. Co.

Wilhelmina Abrahamson

This is my grandmother. She was born on July 4, 1868 in Trade Lake, Burnett County, WI and, I believe, adopted by John Abrahamson. I can find no record of a female child born in Trade Lake on that date. Family lore is that she was left with John by her biological mother who ran off with her biological father and her son who were all later killed in South Dakota, but I have no documents reflecting any of ths. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.
