I'm trying to locate anyone who may have information on the following family. My great grandfather was John Jonas Rousseau he was born May 17, 1875 in Beaver Island, Michigan to Charles Rousseau and Charlote Martin (Rousseau). The Rousseau's lived in Michigan from 1860-1880.
The 1860 Mackinac county census has a Antoine Babineaux born abt. 1851 in Michigan and a Macala Babineaux born in Michigan. These two kids were living with Charles and Charlotte. I believe these are Charlotte's 2 children with an unknown man named Babineaux.
In the 1870 census there is a Antoine Delosier, 19 living with Charles, Charlotte and 2 of their other children: Joseph, age 3 and Charlotte age 2. I don't know what happened to Macala in this census or if this Antoine is the same as above.
The 1880 census has Charles, Charlotte with 4 of their kids: Antoine Rousseau, b: abt 1854, Joseph abt 1867, Charles abt 1871 and John, abt 1875 (my ggrandfather). Is this Antoine the same as the 2 mentioned above? I don't know.
The 1880 census is where I loose everyone until my ggrandfather shows up in Minnesota. Family history says that John Jonas was raised on or near the Red Cliff Reservation. My grandma (John's daughter) used to talk about Babineau realatives and especially a Charles or Charlie Babineau that she would go visit at Bayfield in the late 1960's early 70's. I have one picture of him and he appears to be about 70 years old or so.
Please if you have any information on this family Please contact me! Thank you,
