Twin River Plain school

I am trying to determine the exact location of the TWIN RIVER PLAIN school, when it was still in use. The "Barron County Schools" web page lists it as being in Cumberland Township and school District 17. I do know that it was located somewhere southeast of Cumberland and that the white, frame, building was situated on the southeast quadrant of two intersecting country roads.

I'm hoping that someone visiting this forum may have recollections of that school - or may, possibly, even have been a student there. My parents purchased the building in the summer of 1949 and had it moved to a vacant lot on the north edge of Cumberland where it was sawed into two parts and remodeled into our residence.

Thanks for any help regarding this inquiry.
AZAlan

From the Wednesday, November 19, 1924 Rice Lake Chronotype:

Woman Drops Dead

Mrs. Christ Peterson of Route 2, whose home is about 3 1/2 miles west of this city on the Cumberland road, died suddenly in her car while driving to town this afternoon with relatives. She was taken ill when the car was passing St. Joseph's hospital. The car was stopped and doctors summoned, but she was beyond help when they arrived. Her death is thought to have been caused by heart trouble. Her husband died some years ago, but there are surviving children. An obituary will appear next week.

From the Wednesday, November 26, 1924 Rice Lake Chronotype:

Mrs. Marie Petersen

Mrs. Marie Petersen, whose sudden death in an auto from cerebral hemorrhage Wednesday, Nov. 19, was mentioned in last week's issue, was the widow of Christ W. Petersen, who died May 30, 1915, and was buried in Nora cemetery. She was a native of Denmark, where she was born June 8, 1871.

She came to this country thirty-six years ago and about four years later was married to Christ W. Petersen. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Petersen moved onto a farm on the Cumberland road 3 1/2 miles west of Rice Lake, where they made their home until their death.

Six children survive, three sons and three daughters: William, Chester and Peter at home; Mrs. John Olson and Mrs. Ed Frank (a witness along with her husband at her brother Chester's wedding), who lived on the Cumberland road, and Mrs. George Scheu, who lives on the South side.

She also leaves three brothers: Lars Nelson, who has lived on the place since the death of her husband; Chris Nelson, who lives about six miles west of town, and one brother who lives in Minnesota.

Funeral services were held at Bethany Lutheran church in this city Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. H. G. Engum officiating, and internment was made in Nora cemetery by the side of her husband. There was a large attendance of friends and relatives at the services.

Robert Byron Sergent b. 1930 d. 2007 Chetek

I am looking for ties to Robert Byron Sergent who was b. 1930 in Milwaukee Co., WI and was the son of Clifford D. Sergent and Corrine Carter. I have from SSDI information that Byron died Nov 2007 in Chetek, Barron Co., WI.

I have a lot of information on this family line of Sergent if any of the descendants are interested. I know Clifford died in 1931 in a Car accident so Robert more than likely grew up not knowing much about his Sergent line.

Clifford D. was the son of Omar Andrew Sergent and Lottie Fritcher. They are buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Ladysmith township, Rusk Co, as well as Clifford D.
Their cemetery photos are pictured on the WI Tombstone Project for Rusk Co at:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/wi/cemetery/rusk-...
Robert Byron was married to an Unknown Lamb, whom I beleive is still living.

Please contact me if interested.

Penny Kresl

I would like to find some history of the Sioux Creek Cemetary. I lived in that area and it seems that everyone in the cemetary are relatives of mine. I am related to the Massie's, Miller's, Allen's Fosters,Bowser's, Is there anywhere that this would be kept on record and who owned the cemetary. Thank You

Elmer Anderson was born in Orange Co, Kansas in 1881 and moved as a child with his parents to Barron County. His parents were Lars Anderson (Lewis/Louis)Anderson and Anna E. Oas/Aas. I find him with his family in 1900 in Stanfold. In 1910 and 1920 he is in Rice Lake with a wife and children. His wife was Anna and they were married about 1904--based on info on the 1910 census. Does anyone have their marriage date and place. I also need her maiden name. According to the census records, their children were Earl, Edwin, Irene and Margaret. Does anyone know their birthdays and who they married. What happened to the members of this family?

I am a bit confused. I have been looking up information on the O'Flanagan family whose is related to my White's family. On one website I have John and Adelia buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Dallas and according to the Barron County Website they are listed in the Greenwood Cemetery, formally known as O'Flanagan Cemetery in Dallas. Are they the same cemetery or what.

Kathy Winters

Lars or Louis ANDERSON Anna OAS / AAS

I am looking for information on Lars H.(aka Louis) ANDERSON and his wife Anna E. OAS or AAS

They were my 2nd great grandparents. I first find them in the 1880 census of Lincoln County, Kansas. By the 1900 census they were in Stanfold, where they were in 1910. In 1920 they were in Rice Lake. I cannot locate them in the 1930 census and assume they had died by then. Based on the various census records he was probably born in 1842 and his wife was born in 1850.

They must have moved from Kansas to Barron County, Wisconsin between 1881 and 1890 as there is a child born in Kansas in 1881 and a child born in 1890 in Wisconsin.

According to the 1900 census Anna had given birth to 14 children. I can account for possibly 8 of the children. This census also says that they had been married 30 years and been in the US 31 years. They are both from Norway. Based on the census records it appears they married in this country. I believe Anna's parents are Lorents AAS and Louisa IVERSON (I have the death records of Lorents and Louisa)

Lars and Anna's children that I can determine are:
1. Julia Anderson born Kansas in 1873 died in Minneapolis in 1937 (my great grandmother)
2. Hilda Anderson born Kansas abt 1876
3. Albert Anderson born Kansas abt 1879 died Kansas 1880
4. Elmer Anderson born Kansas 1881 died 1972 in Idaho
5. Grace Anderson vital dates and places are unknown. The only record of her appears on a 1914 Barron County Plat Book Index.
6. Rute (Ruth) Anderson born in Wisconsin in 1890
7. Selma Anderson born in Wisconsin in 1893
8. Elvira Anderson born in Wisconsin in 1897

Does anyone know where in Norway Lars and Anna came from or which port they came in?

Does anyone know the names and dates of their children?

Can anyone confirm that Lorents and Louisa are the parents of Anna OAS?

Does anyone know Lars parent's names?

Does anyone have ANY information to share on this family

The date of the sale would be approximately 1903. He lived in Cumberland since the late 1870's with wife Alice Jennings Fuller. He became the first barber in the locale. He sold his shop and land and wondering where I can find the details of such a land exchange. Thank you
M. Shanahan

Donnellys & Parks in Barron County in late 1800's & early 1900s

The Parks lived in Oak Grove Township, Barron Co. by the year 1900. The Parks matriarch was a Donnelly and it was said that her Donnelly relatives also settled in the same area. I would like to find the Donnellys who were related to my Parks family. I would like to find the Parks in documents later than 1930.

My great great grandmother Bridget Donnelly b. Ireland abt. 1820 married (where ?) Andrew Parks b. Ireland abt. 1815. Bridget moved with most of her children to Pierce Co. Wisconsin in about 1870. In the census she was listed as a widow.

The oldest Parks child was Thomas b. abt. 1842 in Lanark Co. Ontario. Thomas and his wife Bridget Darcey (aunt of Margaret Dorcy Haughian, Barron Co.) and two sons, Michael and Frank (Patrick Francis) first settled in Pierce Co (1880 census) and then moved to Oak Grove, Barron Co. (1900 census).

Alexander stayed in Ontario and married Jane Maher. Two children of their children immigrated to Wisconsin: Daniel Joseph (eventually an insurance salesman) b. abt. 1885 lived in Ellsworth, Pierce Co. and Beatrice a nurse in Rice Lake, Barron Co. did not marry but had an adopted daughter.

The other children of Bridget Donnelly Parks lived in Pierce Co: Margaret married Badour, Patrick, Ellen, John Bernard (Barney) Spring Valley, Bridget who married "Black" Mike O'Connell died in house fire with five of her children and Ann married James Alexander Mulholland (Mulhollam) El Paso. Any help finding records of or people researching these Donnellys and Parks would be appreciated.

Mary
I am sorry but all I have is 1938 which is what it says on the headstone. No one knows anything of this man and his two children are both dead. My mother is the only living relative and she said all she remembers is that he was buried in the summer time. I know this is asking alot from you to look for me but I sure do appreciate the help. If this helps at all his wife was Mary and she died in 1922 in a tornado in Prarie Farm think three other people died in that also. I do have her obit. His parents are Charles W Foster and Agnes. Thank you so very much.
