I'm looking for any information on the Stroutman/Strautman family from Wheeling, West Virginia. My grandfather is Richard Vincent Strautman. He married Kathryn Cornelia Lyon on 20 May 1941 at the Blessed Trinity Church in Wheeling. Both were born in Wheeling, West Virginia around 1913. They moved to San Francisco, California shortly after their wedding as my grandfather was in the Navy during WWII. Richard's parents were Louis Joseph Stroutman (West Virginia) and Mary Catherine Moore (Ohio). Louis's parents were Edward Stroutman (West Virginia) and Genevive DeMuth.
Any information would be appreciated

Kathryn

Good Morning Richard:

Thank you so much for your inquiry.

Are you talking about my grandparents? Which would be Richard V. Strautman and Kathryn C. Lyon, if so ..........yes I do have info on them. My grandfather is still alive at 91 years old. Kathryn died in the 1950's and Richard remarried Marcelline Darcy from Nebraska. By the way, I have an uncle named Richard V. Strautman living on the West Coast.

But I haven't been able to find much info on either Louis (Richard's father) or Edward (Richard's grandfather) Stroutman/Strautman. I type both because it seems the spelling was changed from Stroutman to Strautman (I think by my grandfather during his college days at Ohio State). If seems funny to me that I can't find either of these men on the 1880 Census. I assume do to a spelling error.

My grandfather doesn't know any information about Edward's parents. I do believe Edward was born in West Virginia. I also think that all generations of this family were very small, with each having only 1 to 2 children.

There are three main Strautman/Stroutman families from the Wheeling, West Virginia area. As far as I can tell, all are from Germany and aren't related BUT maybe there is some relation in Germany between all the Strautman/Stroutman families.
Harry Strautmann sounds familiar........is that Bud's name or his father's name? I think Bud comes from one of the other Strautmann lines. If you can at the very least send me his DOB or parents names I can contact my Wheeling friend to look the info up in the local court house.

Yes, I'm your cousin. My mother Mary Catherine was your father's older sister. I have many wonderful pics of my mom and your father as young children. I will send if you would like me to. Not to mention pics of your father with his birth mother.

I hadn't spoken to your father since the death of my step-grandmother (about 5 years ago). Family fall out at the funeral.

Funny how life makes surprising turns for all of us. I was working on the family tree and decided to call your father out of the blue this past summer. I had a few great conversations with him and Pam before he passed away. That I am thankful for. Something just told me I had to get in touch with him this past summer. Who would have ever thought in a million years he would pass so suddenly. He talked about all of his children and grandchildren to me in just a proud fashion.

My mom and your father's younger brother Phil both attended the funeral along with our grandfather Richard. I couldn't attend on such short notice as I live in Pennsylvania.

I have our grandfather's service record and will send once I get a minute.

Your long lost cousin,
Kathryn

I am researching my POLGAR family line. My great-grandmother was Elizabeth Kirmer Polgar Puskas. They lived in Benwood, WV. Elizabeth was the cousin of Mary Gros or Gross or Groz who married Matthew Wagenhoffer. I do know that Bud Strautmann would be the great-grandson of Mary and Matthew. I would like to contact Bud Strautmann to find out more family information. Am hoping this post it not too old to receive a reply.
