Hey, John -

My John Wilson was a 21 year-old bachelor when he marched to Fort Henry with Capt. Foreman's company. He must have been able to scramble up the hill near the northern end of the narrows as he escaped with his life, but was shot in the right arm (and the shot crippled his arm). He married some years later, and he did have a daughter named Mary, but I have it in my notes that she married George Shinn in 1843.

Your John Wilson is most likely not the same man as mine. There are a number of entries in Boyd Crumrine's "Virginia Records in Southwestern Pennsylvania" for a John Wilson who lived in Ohio County, WV; this may be your man. My John Wilson lived in Hardy County in 1777 and marched to the rescue (with Foreman's company) of Fort Henry...this is how my John Wilson ended up in that part of the country.

Hope this helps!

Did the family of Jacob Ogle ever receive a pension for his service? John Wilson received one from Virginia when he was an old man.

Thanks for your post!

- John
