Classification: Query
Surnames: Utermohlen, Uttermohlen, Utermohle, Uttermuhle, Otermoklen
I am interested in finding more information concerning William Utermohlen (or Uttermohlen, and, in the case of the 1910 census, Otermoklen), and his family, esp. his older children and his own parents.
This is what I have so far: William was born in 1852 in Germany, but came to the US in 1853. I have not found out who brought him here. According to my own parents and grandparents, he went to Wheeling, Ohio, West Virgina and stayed there his whole life. I was unable to find any record of him until 1910, however.
He married a Rose (who was of Irish origin) and, according to my own family, had 12 children. I have only found record of the youngest five, and possibly a sixth: an Edward b. 1878 (he is an iffy, I'm not sure about him, but my father thinks he is one of William's children), an Agnes b. 1878, a Frank b. 1884, a Raymond b. 1889, a Lels b. 1893, and an Isabel b. 1894. Frank is my great-grandfather, but I wish to know more about his siblings, especially the elder ones that I was not able to find. All of these children were listed in the 1910 census, and Edward was listed as a man with his own family, but he was living in the same area in Wheeling at the time. William supposedly had 10 boys and 2 girls, so the missing 4 children would be boys, most likely sharing the Utermohlen name, or some variation of it. I am thinking that they may have died earlier on, but I am not at all sure.
As for William's possible parents, all I have come up with is an Anna Uttermuhle, who was b. 1830, came from Schonhagen, arrived on the 29 Jun 1857, in Baltimore, departed from Bremen, and, most importantly, her destination was Wheeling. I have also come up with a Friederike Utermohle, who came to America in 1853.
If anyone can help fill in any of these blanks, esp. the one concerning William's parentage, I would be most appreciative. If you wish to email me, my email is ainu_laire at yahoo dot com.
Thanks,
Suvi
