My grandfather was Irvin Bishop. Him and my grandmother Bertha died in a car accident in 1949, leaving my mother and her siblings to be separated and put into different families. They all stayed in touch.

My mother has leukemia, and I would love to surprise her with information and hopefully pictures of her family. The day they buried her parents she was sent to live in Saint Louis, Missouri with an older half sister. She was 14 at the time.

I took her back to Bud, West Virginia to see her parents grave about 10 years ago. She hadn't seen them since the day she was taken away. They are buried at the Bud Cemetery there.

Ambers Acord

KOPPERSTON — Ambers Acord, 74, departed this life Saturday, May 17, 2008, following a long illness.

Born April 30, 1934, at Crouch’s Farm, he was the son of the late Jack and Mary Acord.

Ambers was a retired coal miner. He was also a Christian and has entered into his new life with Christ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Acord and Buford “Mick” Acord.

Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Edward Acord and his wife, Kathy, of Clear Fork and Clifford “Pig” Acord and his wife, Lori, of Kopperston; two brothers, John Acord of Lynco and Bobby Acord and his wife, Phyllis, of Crouch’s Farm; two sisters, Lucille Varney and her husband, Bob, of Oceana and Betty Johnson and her husband, Mike, of Daniels; two sisters-in-law, Helen Acord of Oceana and Shirley Acord of Toney Fork; six grandchildren, Melissa Acord, Eddie Acord and his wife, Paula, of Kopperston, Kristy Acord and her life partner Maurice McKenzie of Ocea-na, Kaula Acord of Kopperston, Joseph Jude and his wife, Charity Faith, of Petersburg, Va., and Jessica Crouse and her husband, Bobby, of Lynco; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew Rollins, Theodore Acord, Francis Mckensize Jr., Danielle Acord, Ethan Acord, Zackery Crouse, Alexis Crouse, Rebecca Jude, and Courtney Jude; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A celebration of Ambers’ life will be 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Adam Toler Memorial Cha-pel with Revs. Herb Cook and Russell Church officiating. Burial will follow in Acord Cemetery, Clear Fork, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service today.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Our loving mama and nannie, Gloria Mae Marshall Booker, 75, of 172 Vine Street, Mount Airy, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

Mrs. Booker was born September 14, 1932, in Wyoming County, WV, to the late Dewey William and Laura Tobler Marshall.

She was a first grade teacher at Rockford Street School for 15 years and later a substitute teacher at B.H. Tharrington Elementary School. Mrs. Booker was a member of Harvest Field Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Brother David Heath and Julie and Jamie Hill, all of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Brittney Heath and special friend, Rusty Herman, Cayden Hill, Carson Hill, and Carley Hill, all of Mount Airy; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Recie and Thurman Miller of Mount Hope, WV, and June Marshall and Stevie and Harry Williams, all of Helen, WV.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Booker was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Edward Booker.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Brother David Heath and the Rev. Dewayne Sands, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

KOPPERSTON-Mrs. Natasha Mullins Chilton, 28, of Kopperston, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at her residence following a sudden illness.

She was born April 17, 1979, in Mullens. She was the daughter of Danny Mullins of King and Linda Belcher McMillian of Kopperston.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Hurley and Beatrice Mullins; maternal grandparents, George and Louise Belcher; and an aunt, Jane Mullins.

Mrs. Chilton was of the Baptist faith. She loved animals and had a passion for helping people. Her three children were her life and she loved being a mom.

Looking more on census I found a 1860 on from Wy, Co Va and it has Mary and James Smith living with a family called Saxton or Laxton, I could not make out the first letter...Looking into this farther, I found that Lydia Sizemore Smith died 13 May 1855 in Wyom. Co., V. and David Smith d.1859 Wyom. Co., V.
So all of the children were put in different homes..Mary and James in this one..

I am looking for anyone that might Have more information on the Saxton or Laxton family and also anyone that might know of this David Smith and Lydia Sizemore family from NC.

I found Census Records and Military records for my grandfather, Oscar J. Anyway he was first married to Cora Harless. I'm curious why that ended? His parents were Joseph Clark Shannon and Rebecca Jane Birchfield. He died in Kentucky. Grave site

Looking for the location of the gravesites where my
brothers; Forrest and Cecil are buried. both, were BORN
and DIED in the early 1920's. They were buried in a small
graveyard on top of, what, I believe is Indian Ridge, in Wyoming Co., WV. As a young boy, I recall visiting the graveyard many times.

I can remember walking over the the top of Indian Ridge with my older brother Herman, we started up a hollow on an old logging road from Indian Creek, to the top of Indian Ridge where the graves were located.
The road continues on down to what is called Shannon Branch (where my grandparents lived) which is located in McDowell Co. Four years ago, my son and I traveled to Indian Creek, and up what I thought was the old logging road, and when we got to what I thought was Indian Ridge, we found that the top of the ridge had been cleared for some distance.
I'm not so sure that we walked the right hollow/road, needless to say, we didn't find the graveyard.
Does any one out there know if this graveyard still exists?? Any help on this mystery will be greatly appreciated.

I am the ggranddaughter of Judy/juda/juditha Goode McKinney wife of Abraham daughter of Lemuel and Tabitha Ramey Goode of WY Co.Tabitha being the daughter of Mathew " Mac" Ramey b.1822 KY and Charity Bentley. Listed as a resident in Mathew's home in 1850 is Henry Jackson 19yrs. Henry is said to have traveled from KY with Mathew. I am stuck at Mathew's generation. My grandmother b.1912 says "Granddaddy Ramey is said to have been fullblooded Cherokee with red/brown skin". I am interested in sharing any info I have. You may e-mail me to share info. I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Wyoming County, West Virginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: WETZEL ZANE BONAR
Born: November 30, 1931, Caucasian
Date of loss: Sept. 1, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 54 families in West Virginia that have not been located. There is one family from Wyoming County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Newbie here, this is FASCINATING!

I am looking for ANY INFORMATION AT ALL THAT I CAN FIND about the Nunn's in Oceana, formerly Hatcher, WVa.

John Samson Nunn - was my grandfather. He was mostly a floorsander, doing floors all over that area. I still have one of his old business cards... Last I heard, his old 1948 Ford pickup truck (restored) was still around there somewhere.

Laura Eggelston Nunn - my grandmother, always had a lap full of string beans.

Gladyce K. Nunn - was my aunt, and the sweetest, most beloved human being I have ever known. She was a schoolteacher in Man, and later in Oceana, even later teaching grandkids of those she taught when she first became a teacher. I was lucky enough to spend a few days with her shortly before she passed, and I KNOW she recognized me even though she could not communicate it at that point.

She was loved by anyone involved with the OHS band, so there MUST be someone left who remembers her, or has any information at all about any of these people.

ANY help or information you can share with me or send to me will be GREATLY appreciated. I emailed the Delilah Methodist Church in Oceana asking for information a year or so ago, but never got a response.

I still entertain thoughts about seeing the house(s) my grandfather built someday if it is still there...

Are there any photos of any of these people???

Looking for information about Mary Perry Morgan. She was born about 1859 and married George Morgan of Wyoming County about 1879. As of the 1930 census she was still living on Indian Creek Road in Baileysville Twp. When George died in 1938 his death certificate lists him as widowed. I have not been able to locate her death certificate. I have no information about where she was born or anything about her family.

I would like to communicate with one or more ELLISONs who trace your ancestry back to James Ellison who was born in NJ and died 27 DEC 1791 in VA/WV. He married Anne English who was born in 1736 and died after 1790. I have been told that there are Ellisons living in Wyoming Co. WV who descend from this line of Ellisons. I am also descended from this line of Ellisons/Allisons. Some stayed in New York and New Jersey well into the 1800s and then began migrating west to Ohio. I descend from those Allisons.

William D. Cook, b. abt 1804

I've been able to find William D. Cook in the 1850 and 1860 Wyoming County census. He is listed with his wife, Chloe (Bailey) Cook, daughter of James Bailey and Margaret Stinson. Her father appears with them in the 1850 census.
Son, Lain S. Cook, appears as an 8 yr. old in the 1850 census but is not in the 1860 census. Has anyone found a death record for him?
Chloe is reported to have died about 1861. I don't have access to the 1870 census.
Garland Steele indicates a second marriage for William to Jane Lockhart (b. abt. 1837 Logan Co) on April 4, 1872 in Wyoming County. He also lists three children from this marriage: Cora (b. 1874 Wyoming Co), Oliver (b. 28 Jan 1876 Wyoming Co), and Bilton (b. 1878 Wyoming Co). I found Oliver's death certificate which names his father as William Cook and mother unknown. However the 1880 Wyoming County census poses questions which I hope some one is able to answer.

According the the Wyoming county heritage book. My mom's grandmother Clara Mullens died March 26 1934 in Pineville WV Wyoming County. I have sent off for her death certificate and have been told several times no death record can be found. I am hoping someone can either look up this obituary for me or that someone might have a copy of the Wyoming County Heritage book that can look in the index and tell me what the reference is in the book for this date of death for her. I am trying to locate any information identifying the father of Joseph Farley (b. 1800/VA). who m Elizabeth Toler (b 1805; d/o Zachary Toler). Joseph Farley arrived in Logan Co VA (now Wyoming Co and Logan Co) before 1830, and patented 189 acres in the Rockview area (near Pineville) in 1848 with David Brinegar. His brother was Mat(d)ison Farley (b 1815), and I have seen some unproven research which suggests that Joseph may have been a son of Mary McDonald and Gideon Farley (1775-1855/Boone Co VA; s/o Francis Farley Jr [1732/Henrico Co VA-1829/Shawneetown IL] and Nancy Blankenship).
