BRIGGS, Leslie H. “Bus,” 91, of Pine Grove, W.Va., died Saturday, February 9, 2008, in the Louis A. Johnson Medical Center, Clarksburg.
Bus was born November 16, 1916 in Pine Grove, the son of the late George Luster and Mary Olive Richmond Briggs.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in several countries and many battles including D-Day (Utah Beach Normandy) and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received September 1943 in Paestum, Italy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Edgell Briggs (Oct 1983); six brothers, Thomas, Edward, Nelson, Elvin, Guy and Roy; a sister, Nora Balwanz Myer’s; and a son-in-law, Paul Fortney.
He is survived by his six children, Leslie Jr. (Nancy) of Wellsville, Ohio, Robert (Sally) of New Martinsville, Wilda (Eugene) Ice of Jacksonburg, Sandy Fortney of Reader, Bonnie (Leroy) Lydick of Lumberport, and Rhonda Briggs of Pine Grove; nine grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with full military honors and Chaplain Ryan Wagers officiating.
Interment in the Long Cemetery, Pine Grove.
