I have been doing extensive research on the Stephen Bartram family of Wayne Co. WVA.
I believe Stephen to be the son of George and Ann Bartram from the Philadelphia ,PA and New Jersey areas. I found this item the other day and thought I would post it for it may inspire other lines in this family (Cyrus):
From the Documents relating to the Colonial History of New Jersey Vol XXVI, Page 436:

G.BARTRAM and P.SHIRAS, Have brought up to their store, at Mountholly, A LARGE and general assortment of European, East and West-India GOODS, which was purchased on the best terms: therefore are determined to supply the town and country lower than has been done there for many years past, and purposed to sell for ready money, or country produce, only.

N.B. The public will be made acquainted with the particulars of the GOODS by another Advertisement, in a few days time.

Colonial and Revolutionary Families of PA III - Jordan

Peter Shiras, the Pittsburgh progenitor of the Shiras family, was born in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland . He was the son Alexander and Margaret (Stuart) Shiras.Peter and his brother Alexander left Scotland and sailed to America in 1768. They settled first in Philadelphia, but later removed to Mt. Holly, New Jersey, where they purchased property. Peter married Rebecca Thomas,November 11, 1770. Their descendants were later in Lawrence Co. Ohio (1850 1860) census. Some were in Manchester, Ohio and Cincinnati. Very political Nationally.
Fannie Bartram married Cyrus Henry Moore in Ironton, Ohio 1886.
Stephen Bartram was very much connected by blood and marriages to the Buffington and Huddlestons, who came from Bucks Co.PA to the Kanawha and Cabell Co. areas and of course, his descendants, to the Coles, Frys, Adkins, Walker, Huston, Ferguson, Osburn, and Porter familys who also migrated along those same trails. Found in the 1850 and 1851 Lawrence Co. Ohio tax lists: Mary Shiras Upper Township. The Bartrams were in this same township when they first came to Lawrence Co.

Found in the 1860 Lawrence Co. Census Pollock Twp: Alexander and Oliver Shiras

There was an Oliver P. Shiras in Pittsburg, Pa ca. this time.

1870 Wayne Co. WVA census p. 79 (Sherri Pettit) has Oliver P. SYRUS 10 years old- son of Joshua and Elizabeth. Joshua is the s/o of Abraham and Sarah (Blue) Cyrus.

Linda.....According to 2 different books....Stephen Bartram (husband of Cynthia) was the s/o John P. Bartram, NOT Stephen Bartram (husband of Elizabeth). The first book is:
Bartram Branches -Genealogy of the Families of West Virginia, Connecticutt and Pennsylvania - By Violet W. Bartram and D. Kent Bartram, Jr.

The second book is: Adkins - LAND OF YORK (Surrey County, England) TO BEECH FORK (Wayne County, West Virginia) by
Ronnie Adkins.

If you would like more information on these Stephens, I do have both books and would be happy to share. But one thing in genealogy I have learned.....NEVER assume anything.

I am sorry. I should have been more specific. I just assumed that everyone knew that Stephen (husband of Cynthia) was the son of Stephen (husband of Elizabeth)and would therefore eliminate him as the subject of this querie. Also the date in the article would certainly eliminate Stephen, Jr.

In reference to Stephen Bartram (progenitor of the Wayne Co. WVA family):
D.Kent Bartram,Jr.and Violet W. Bartram authors of "Bartram Branches" again enlighten the researcher with their dissertation on the Pannell/Pennell family.
For those beginning in-depth research on those connected to the Bartram family this warrents consideration.

He later served as United States Court Judge for twenty-one years, representing the Northern District of Iowa
