Upsur County Query
I am researching our family history. My mother Is Ileana (Crites) Williams, my grandparents were James and Iva (Sandridge) Crites with many relatives in Upshur, Barbour and Randolph Counties.
The Crites lineage goes back to James David and Virginia Elizabeth (Wentz) Crites, both listed as born in Hall, WV. Before that was Abraham and Nancy (Pringle) Crites with dates, birthplaces and parents unknown but lots of children born in the 1850's. I do have lineage of the Wentz family and have access to the "Golden Wedding" booklet for James Wilson Wentz and Lucy Catherine Harris, married May 6. 1858. The booklet includes genealogy of the Wentz family back to Warren Wentz who came to America in 1774 from Germany.
The Sandridge lineage goes back to Joseph Flinton and Dinah Sullvana (Campbell) Sandridge (Joseph b. Feb 4, 1870, d. Feb 1, 1935) ( Dinah b. Feb 15, 1873, d. Dec 23, 1961). Joseph's parents were Jesse L. and Nancy (Proudfoot) Sandridge, married Dec 2, 1858 (Jesse b. May 29, 1837,
d. Aug 1, 1917) (Nancy b. Aug 26, 1836, d. April 5, 1896). Jesse's parents were Lindsey and Lucy Jane (Smith) Sandridge. Lindsey was born 1800 in Albemarle Co. Virginia, died 1892 in Upsur Co; Lucy's birth year and place are unkown, she died in January 1894. On the Campbell lineage, Dinah's parents were Peachy B Campbell Jr. and Nancy Jane (Hall) Campbell. Peachy was born May 12, 1850, died Dec 3,
1899. Dinah was born Feb 8, 1950 and died Jan 28, 1896. Peachy parents were Peachy B. and Margaret (unknown) Campbell. Peachy sr was born May 5, 1819 and died June 16, 1870. Margaret was born Mar 22, 1821 and died Oct 4, 1872. Nancy Jane (Hall) Campbell's parents were Enoch and Mary
Magdeline (O'Brien) Hall, married on December 16, 1839. Enoch was born in 1810 and died May 08, 1859. Mary was born in 1818 and died Mar 13, 1897. Mary's parents can be traced back to Daniel and Hannah (Morris) O'Brien. No dates for Daniel but Hannah was born October 22, 1787, died May 26, 1880.
I know these family lines go back quite a ways but I would like to try and trace them back further. I can provide some additional data but I would like some suggestions as to how to expand this research.
