July 6, 1866, Maggie is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Tyler County, WV Noah left Maggie and never returned, she must have divorced him, because she used her maiden name when she remarried, Margaret A. Joseph married Ingram F. Fordyce on 14 March 1880, Noah wrote to James in 1883 that "His Father died in Kansas and his Mother makes her home in Missouri" His parents were William James and Amanda Duckworth. Her parents were Nathan Joseph and Ann Hustead b. 19 Mar 1815 d.

At the age of 18 years, Noak R. James entered the Civil War, October 1861 joining the 7th Virginia, At Wheeling, which was an Ohio Company. He was severely wounded at Antietam and after recovering he enlisted at Clarksburg, Harrison County and served in the 4th Cavalry, and after 6 months was discharged and then enlisted in the 6th Cavalry till the close of the Civil War.

James O. James and Calvin James were his brothers and they served with him in the 4th and 6th Cavalry. They, after the Civil War ended moved to St. Clair county, Missouri.

He left his family and turned up in Bumford, Shelby County, Alabama. On his Pension papers he states, "Maggie died in 1885" which of course was not the truth because she died in January 9, 1903. In 1900 Noah R. James remarried to a Mrs Eveline Lawly of Bumford, Alabama. Her deceased husband had been a Confederate soldier. She was 40 years younger then Noah R. and she could not read nor write. She never even knew when they were married or where. Noah R. James finally died in 1926 in Bumford, Alabama.
