Here is what I have on George W. Adams:
He was born in Mason City, VA on 2-20-1846 to Robert Adams Jr. and Mary Anne BAKER Adams. Mary Anne BAKER is a descendant of the BAKER family of Philadelphia. When George was 2 1/2 yrs old, (August 1848), his father - a merchant of Mason City - died of typhoid fever. George, his mother and his sister went to Woodfield, OH. His mother died in Woodfield and george and his sister, Virginia, went to live with an uncle, John BAKER of the same community. George returned to at the age of nineteen to spend a year with his grandfather Adams at Mason City. George was an Oil driller at Petroleun and Buring Springs. He married Margaret Reynolds on March 27, 1870. She was the daughter of Noah Reynolds and Margaret BAKER Reynolds. In November 1870, George and Margaret moved to a one-room log home on Muddy Creek, Tyler County. In Tyler County George was a farmer. They had six sons and two daughters: Henry Martin (Middlebourne); John N of Houston, Missouri; David S of Gravette, Arkansas; George A, William and Lydia of Middlebourne. One daughter Mrs. Mary Holmes and Charles W. Adams are deceased.
The article states that five Adams brouther of Quincy, Massachusetts, joined the New England migration into the Ohio Valley. This was while John Adams was president. Samuel stopped in Pittsburgh; Richard in Bethany, WV; Martin settled at Letart Falls, OH; Robert bought a farm in Mason City VA (now WV), and Thomas moved on into Kentucky. The article continues with George's children, their spouses and their children.
The article I have has much more info: but the above are the highlights. If you would like a copy of the article please contact me. pmendrick@comcast.net Pam Mendrick
