I have serveral death records from 1926-1946 that lists place of burial as LOONEYVILLE CEMETERY can someone tell me where it is (directions) and also CLOVER CEMETERY (DIRECTIONS) coming from ripley,wv.
I am also looking for a living relative of GEORGE WASHINGTON BOWEN b. june 4 1886 d. june 2 1954 buried clover cem. thanks,

Just Finish Reading Nancy Hart, Confederate Spy at http://www.richwooders.com/net/nancy/hart.htm Some say she is buried in the mountain grave there at the Manning Knob Cemetery also known as Nancy Hart Cemetery and is so listed on Williamsburg District Cemeteries List ...the cemetery is in the western Greenbrier County, near the town of Richwood West Virginia, the marker is Dedicated to The Memory of Nancy Hart 1846 - 1902 Civil War Heroin.
Some recall a small marker marking the grave. It seems like I read an article several years ago that someone had erected a more permanent marker at the site.
Can anyone confirm or deny that she is buried in the mountain grave there at the Manning Knob Cemetery. Any help or info gratefully appreciated on the old markers and grave site of Nancy Hart, Confederate Spy

Granville Zin Jett was my GG grandfather. He was the son of Alvin Jett. Born Nov. 2 1871 in WV; died 1-28-35 (info on birth, death, and funeral from Jett family bible). He died in Roane County.His funeral was at a Baptist church in Newton, WV, Rev.Edward Hunt officiating. On a second line is written: Maysel Laurel Creek, then another line has: PO Clay WV. I am still in search of his burial site, and what happened to his wife--whether she is buried beside him. In 1920, I found Granville living in Nicholas Co., WV without Mary. by 1930, he is no longer living at the home in Nicholas Co., (contrary to what the census reads, she was not his wife, but his dau-in-law, married to W.C.Jett, my G grandfather)

I am very much interested in finding the final resting place, and the fate of Mary Ann Nichols Jett.

Dixie Lenora Bennett, 69, departed life July 31, 2008, at her Twin Towers residence in Point Pleasant.

Dixie graduated from Point Pleasant High School with the Class of 1956. She was a mother and homemaker. Later in life, she worked as a nurse aide at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was an avid reader and loved animals.

She was born May 29, 1939 in Charleston, a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Dotson and biological parents, the late Richard Cummings and Nelda Louise Tucker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harry Bennett, whom she married in October 1977; sons, Bruce Wayne Click and Dale Lee Click; and sister, Ruby Saali of South Carolina.

Survivors include her sons, Steve Brian Click and John Lee Click and his girlfriend, Beverly Bush, all of Mount Alto; grandchildren, Coda Lee Click, Jerad Wayne Click and Curtis Dean Click; sisters, Marjorie Duff of Georgia and Toni Baker of Florida; brothers, Terry Cummings of Spencer and Aaron Summers of St. Albans; stepfather, Anthony Sikorski of Florida; and a special cousin, Doris Peters of Point Pleasant.

In honor of her wishes, she will be cremated at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant. Her ashes will be laid to rest upon her sons' gravesites at Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant.

We found these tintype photos in the collection of my Aunt Julia Smith White and she cannot remember if they are her relations or her husband Homer White relations. I believe the pictures where taken about 1883. We think the man may be William Young Smith (Julia's grandfather) and three of his sons, John, William Cary, and Floyd. Or they may be of Homer White's father John and three of his oldest sons. Does any one out there recognize these photo's.

Can anyone tell me if there are records of persons buried in this cemetery? I am looking for a possible burial for Hannah McClellan Sands, wife of John J. Sands. Both John J. and their daughter Sadie Sands died in the Spencer State Hospital. Their death certificates state that they are buried in Wright Cemetery. (I have also discovered there is a Wright Cemetery in Cabell Co, WV, so I have some confusion as to which Wright Cemetery they are in!).
I am wondering if Hannah may herself be buried in the State Hospital Cemetery. I have been unable to find any death record for her in the online WV resources so far. So I am a little mystified.
If anyone can help me with either a date of death for Hannah Sands, or can provide me with a list of burials in the Spencer State hospital, I would be very grateful. Thanks so much for any assistance with this request!

My grandfather had an aunt named Rachel Smith, daughter of Jasper T and Rocelia (Means) Smith. Rachel married a man with the last name Tait or Tate and had a daughter Stella and one named Blanche. Then she married a man named Sumter and had one child named Romie and, I believe, two others whose names I don't know. These children were probably born in the 1880's or 1890's. Can anyone help me with information about any of these people?

LOOKING FOR HARDMAN and McWHORTER PHOTOS

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a photo of Benjamin and Sira Leah (Cunningham) Hardman. Benjamin and Sira lived in Roane county, with Benjamin dieing there in 1865. All accounts I have found say that Benjamin is buried on the family farm with his parents, Joseph and Dorcas. This Hardman family cemetery later became the Mt. Olive Cemetery, when the church was built by some of Joseph's descendants.
Apparently, after Benjamin's death, Sira went to Kanawha county to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Henry Clay and Mary (Hardman) McWhorter. Sira died in 1874 and was buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston. Benjamin and Sira's daughter, Mary, later died in 1878 and is buried there also.
In know these dates are early for photos, but it is very possible that one exists. I have photos of two of Benjamin's brothers, George and James, and one that could be his brother Thomas (no Proof). I also have a photo that COULD BE Benjamin and Sira. It is a very old tin type, that appears to be old enough to be around 1865. The couple in the photo are of an older age, in this very old tin type. There are strong resemblences to Benjamin and Sira's son, Thomas, and to Benjamin's brothers.
If anyone has a photo, or knows who to contact about their descendants, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Benjamin and Sira are my GGGGG grandparents and I would LOVE to have a photo of both or either of them. I would also like to be able to determine if my photo is of them. THANKS.

I do see them in 1870 Kanawha Co. WV.
By 1880 they are in Roane Co. WV, Smithfield - they are still in Roane Co. in 1900, and also in 1910 except in 1910 Finetta age 58 is shown as a widow, living in her son William's household... Any information Like Thomas father and mothers name and Finetta's mother and fathers name would be greatly appericated in some documents I have found it said that Thomas Moss was a baptist preacher.

Henry C. Boggs, s/o James Albert Boggs & Lydia Jane Truman, b. 08 Dec 1894, Oka and died 09 Oct 1964 in a coal mine accident (no further details) married first:

(21 Dec 1913 at bride's parent's home) Louisa Belle Lane, d/o Leonard Lane & Mary Jane Lane, b. abt May 1896 in Calhoun County and died 05 Aug 1936 in Oka. They had 9 known children: Gustia, Bonnie, Grace, Raymond, Myrtle, Robert, Doris, Ronzle & Roy.

Henry married second:
(13 Jul 1942 in Calhoun County) Clara Flinchman, daughter of Elzie Flinchman & Mary Unknown, abt 1921 in Minnora and died unknown. Children include: Cecil, Dale, Doy, Walter, Dallas, Homer, Wilbert and possibly another male and three females.

Henry and second wife Clara's last known address was 349 Stoney Lonesome, Newton, Roane County, WV.

Need Look-up: Joanna Hoffman, married Roy Leisure? mid to late 1930's

My Wifes great Aunt Joanna Hoffman, I'm told was married to a fellow from Spencer. They got married when she was 17, or 18, I believe. That would put the marriage date sometime between 1933-1934. However the date may have been a few years later. They (Joanna and Roy) divorced after World War II. They had been living in Florida working as civilians at a shipyard or something like that. They moved back to Spencer where Roy started a sheetmetal business.
Joanna didn't want to live in Spencer and divorce him and moved to California. Where she married a fellow from New Mexico by the name of Eddie Ortiz. She worked for and knew personally, Merle Norman. Joanna and Eddie were good friends with Merle and his wife. (or so I'm told)
I just resently heard about her first marriage and was in need of the information for my wife's tree. Joanna was from the Rockport area and Roy Leisure(not 100% sure of last name) was reported to be from Spencer. Any information about their marriage and/or divorce would be greatly appreciated.

I’m looking for a birth record for a John O’Brien. Info I have so far is death cert says b. July 1840 Kanawha Co. mother was Nancy O’Brien, died 1 Oct 1928. I have scoured census reports and only find him in 1880 and 1900, nothing else. He married Mary Jane Fowler in Nov 1869, in Braxton Co. I’ve hit the proverbial “brick wall” and need all the help I can get. Family rumor has it that maybe O’Brien isn’t the family surname but instead it may be Powell, and that a older female kept her maiden name and passed it along to the family. I did notice that there was a Nancy O’Brien (Bryan) in 1860 census that didn’t have a spouse but did have 3 children, no names come close to John.

I'd like to make a trip to Roane Co., WV to visit and take pictures of where Zilla and Roe Fields are buried. Zilla was a daugher of Meshack Compton and Nancy Breeding. I've been to most of Meshack's children burial places, including children that died young. Some of the dates don't match death records.

John House's "Pioneers of Roane County"

I finally finished transcribing (retyping) John House's "Pioneers of Roane County, WV". The book is full of his descriptions of the land in the 'olden days' and as he follows the 'cricks' and ridges, he tells about the people who settled there. There is a huge amount of genealogical information in the book, as well as a lot of fun reading. You can read it all at www.wvpioneers.com under 'Resources', click on Books about WV & VA . . . and it's the second one on the list. I've separated it into sections, so it will load faster, but maybe more importantly, so you can see at a glance if there is one of your names there. However, it is not indexed, and there are mentions of many other families in each sketch. The section on Signs, Superstitions and Witchcraft is a hoot - a definite 'must read'!

I'm researching a Duratin family line, namely, a Anna Duratin and her father, Andreas or Andrew Duratin.
On the manifest of Anna's passage from Slovakia in 1910, at 21 years old she was coming to visit her father, who was in Spencer, WV at the time, trying to earn enough money to send for the rest of their family.
I'm not familiar with West Virginia, Spencer or Roane County, and need to know what work an immigrant might have been doing at that time (1910).
Prior to 1910, Andreas made a proposition with a young man that was working with him there, a George Pavlik, (born 1884) also an immigrant from Slovakia, that if he helped him make enough money to send for his family, he would give his daughter's hand in marriage to him. Anna was sent for and arrived in 1910 according to her manifest. Their first three children were born in West Virginia, so I can only assume it was in Spencer, WV. They were George, Mary and Paul Pavlik. Later in Ohio, there were Celia, Margaret, Robert, John, Rudolph, Leslie, Harry and June.
I have so little information about this family such as date of marriage and dates of birth for their children prior to thier settling in Hocking County, OH in 1913.
If anyone has any censuses for Roane County for 1900, I would greatly appreciate a look up for either George Pavlik or Andreas (Andrew) Duratin.
A look up for the marriage of George Pavlik to Anna Duratin would be icing on the cake.

Joshua Meadows, died in Roane County??

Anyone have a date of death for Joshua Meadows in Roane County? He was alive in 1866 when he gave permission for his daughter Louisa to marry but his wife Anna was living with a son in the 1870 census. I am assuming that he died between the two dates - sometime between 1866 and 1870.

Can anyone verify who the parents of Joshua were? He came to Roane County from Monroe County by way of Kanawha County. There is some very circumstantial evidence that suggests his parents were Francis and Frances (Bush) Meadows but more evidence is needed.

I think this is Fremont Hardman, his wife Sylvia Blanch Ireland and their children. I see them living in Ritchie and Roane Co WV.

Grover C. Greathouse of Roane County

My grandfather Grover C. Greathouse lived in Cowen, Webster County, WVa. he always said he was from Looneyville in Roane County. He says he was born in 1886. I have tried to find information about his family, but I find a Grover C. Greathouse - same birth day only a different year - and the brothers and sisters don't match. I think his father was married twice and somehow the children got mixed up. I do know for a fact that he had a brother Ed Greathouse who married Mary Benear (think he was married twice), sister Flora. It seems he left home at age 12 and worked in the logging camps - one being Cramberry above Richmond. He married Gertrude Hammonds from Webster County. I do have a document from the courts in 1943 showing that my grandparents owned land in Roane County inthe Smithfield District. This land was bordered by land owned by F. J. Epling, Walter McMillan, O McMillan, and G. B Simmons. So, it seems likely that he was from this area. Anyone having any information please contact me.

looking for death and burial information on Amelia Cross Patmon, wife of Watson Patmon. Last name could also be listed as Patman. Amelia and Watson are listed in the 1880 census at Curtis, Roane County. Amelia was approx. age 58 then. She died some time between 1880 and 1884, when her husband, Watson (a farmer), and three younger sons went West to homestead in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado. Amelia and Watson lived in the Negrofoot area of Hanover County, Virginia, during the 1860 census, in the household of her mother, Mary Cross. Any information on Amelia, Watson or other family members greatly appreciated. (Watson was a Confederate soldier, and both he and Mary Cross were slave owners in Virginia.)

I have found a death record for a Cordelia Knotts, d/o/d 9 Jun 1923, in Calhoun County, WV. Father was A Hatchet Short, mother was Katherine McCoy, both born in VA (or could be what is now WV). According to the death cert, she was born in Roane Co, WV and buried in Rush Run Cemetery but I don't know where that cemetery is; probably Roane County. Does anyone know which Knotts she married? I dont' find a marriage record in Calhoun County, but she may have been married in her home town in Roane County and I don't have access to those records.
