My McHenry line is from Va in that time period. They were in Rockingham and Rockbridge Counties. I am not aware of anyone marrying a Harriet. Our Johns were born late 1700, not early 1800

Most are from Randolph County. Some of the towns are Elkins, Martinsburg, Parsons, Lumberport, Bridgeport, Weston, Philippi and many more.

I'm looking for a farm near Elkins (about 12 miles) that would have been open to orphaned children from Brooklyn, NY in 1903.

I have a photograph of a relative who was about 12 years old and had earlier been in an orphanage in NYC. Accompanying the photo is a description of how my relative went about 12 miles to town on horseback with eggs and milk to sell. He "crossed streams" but still looked good for his photo that was taken while he was in town.

Any ideas where this might be??

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio – Vivian L. Lewis, 90, died March 1, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mrs. Lewis was born April 25, 1922, in Harman, West Virginia, a daughter of Willie and Ethel Varner Hinkle.

She moved to the area in the 1955. She worked various jobs, but mainly was a homemaker.

Vivian loved gardening, reading, and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, David Junior Lewis, whom she married in 1942, died Nov. 5, 1998.

She is survived by one son, Charles (Lynda) Lewis of Poland, Ohio; one sister, Nola Richards of Melbourne, Florida; two daughters-in-law, Eileen Lewis and June Lewis; one son-in-law, Louis “Jim” Cline; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, William “Bill” and Richard “Jack” Lewis; one daughter, Patricia “Patty” Cline; and two brothers, Loy “Buck” Hinkle and William “Buzz” Hinkle; and two sisters-in-law, Twilia “Tod” Hinkle and Phyllis Hinkle.

Services will be held at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Lowellville, Ohio on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Lowellville Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Masternick Health Care Center for the excellent care that Vivian received during her stay.

Do you have information about C F's daughter "Mina" being Wilhelmina and not Marie?

The Marie in Westerly, Rhode Island was Marie MILLER (1889-1972) whose mother was Emma STUCKY (1852 – 1889).
Emma STUCKY (daughter of C F and Babette KREBS STUCKY) married Frederick Laurens "Fred" MILLER (1845-1915). They had 4 children:

Bertha Adele "Bert" MILLER (1880 – 1956)
Paul Earnest MILLER, (1881 – 1970)
Frederick Irving "Fred" MILLER (1883 – 1974)
Marie E MILLER (1889-1972)

Of the four MILLER/STUCKY children, only Fred (1883 – 1974) left descendants. Fred is my husband's grandfather.

Carl Friedrich Stucky son of C.F. and Babette Krebs Stucky did not move to Indiana. That is a different Carl Stucky.

Our Carl Friedrich Stucky died at the age of 16 and is buried with his mother Babette Krebs Stucky (1822-1864) in the Fair Street Cemetery, New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas Co, Ohio. They share the same monument. A picture of the monument is posted on the Find a Grave site.

The birthdate on the monument is 13 May 1854, Carl Friederich's birthdate. The name is given as Charles F Stucky. "Charles" is the English form of German name "Carl."

The date of death is 03 Jul 1879. He died in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania.

My father-in-law and some of his siblings were there during the depression. I contacted the home today for information about him today. They only have a ledger type book of admissions and status of "release". Any resource infor available would be appreciated.

I was just looking for info on my great grandfather jacob phillips and was directed here. Alot of what you said rings a bell with what has been passed down in our family about him. My great grandmother was the first wife of Jacob then he remarried and had a daughter I believe. I'm not sure if he is the same one but his daughter (my grandmother) Evelyn lived in Ravenna.

I am trying to find family of Ralph Wilmoth. I have a photo that was restored by a studio in Clarksburg, (in 1984) that might be his family. This photo was found in Elkins several years ago set out for trash near a storage unit. I will try to get it scanned and post it. I would like to get it to someone who would like to have it. The phone number listed on the form is not in service for this person. I called it and got a business who had never heard of Ralph Wilmoth. I am, and have been researching the Elsey/Elza family for many, many years. The Elza in our family came about by accident with clerical spelling errors! Elsey is our original spelling and the Elsey family came from England. When Edward Elsey died (sometime in 1819 in Hardy County, Virginia), his son, Thompson Elsey -- my 3rd great grandfather -- became an orphan and had a legal guardian appointed (actually two different ones from the Coberly family). It was at this time in history that the name was altered in recording the guardianship(s) to Elza. I am still searching records to find more information about the parentage of Edward Elsey. I believe, after much searching, that his father was Nicholas Elsey. Edward had at least two siblings, Thomas & Mary. Mary married a John Lewis in Rockingham County about 1781. Edward was married to Sarah "Sally" Thompson, my 4th great grandmother. He subsequently, in 1811, married a Cecilia Rivies and they had
children. I believe, but cannot prove, that Sarah "Sally" Thompson Elza died in childbirth when Thompson was born.

I am willing to communicate with anyone that is researching this line.

The book that Carolyn White wrote has many inaccuracies and errors! The early White family info is missing and there are assumptions without any data to back them up.

Please use caution in using this book as factual in many aspects!

Looks like I have the Bible of George W. Snyder who married George Ann Louk in 1884. Names on the Births page are: John Robert Snyder, Leonard W. Snyder, Samuel S. Snyder, Everett Snyder, Charles W. Snyder, Darius W. Snyder, Robert W. Snyder, Ransom R. Snyder, Franklin A. Snyder, and Robert J. Snyder.
Deaths page shows: Samuel S Snyder, Leonard W. Snyder, Everett G Snyder, Charles W. Snyder, and George W Snyder.

I believe my Kennedys may have worked there. They came from Elk Co. PA. My great uncle Edward Paul Kennedy was married to Carrie Smith from Elk Co. PA. I believe they lived in Pocohontas Co.

I am related to the Flannigans, the Rays through the Lamberts, Snyders, Tinglers, Carrs, Whites. But it is through my PA relatives that I know about Evenwood. They were neighbors of the Moores and they worked timber. They were the Kennedys and came from Elk Co. PA to work there and in Pocohantas Co. Not sure if we're from the same family line or not.... I was told there were several Miriam Brewers. My Miriam married Ephram Kelley. She died in 1937 at 99 years of age. I have her listed as married to Ephriam Kelley. I am descended thought their son Kent Kelly b 1877. They were from the WPa WVA area. kent was born in Davistown. This history came from my grandfather before he passed years ago.
