Ms. Effie Carol Hodges, 94, of Mount Airy, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County, while surrounded by her loving family.
Ms. Hodges was born February 20, 1914, in Raleigh County, WV, the daughter of the late Edgar and Alice Garretson.
Ms. Hodges was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol Hodges Simmons of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Kimberly Simmons of Mount Airy, David Simmons and his wife, Tracy, of Dobson, and Chris Simmons of Mount Airy; and nine great-grandchildren, Peyton Simmons, Devin Simmons, Ryan Simmons, and Sheldon Simmons, all of Dobson, and Trevor Hamilton, Torrance Hamilton, Summer Hamilton, Sam Simmons, and her precious great-granddaughter Fallon Cook, all of Mount Airy.
A private graveside service will be held Monday, June 2, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the service conducted by the Rev. Richard Loman. The Hodges family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the National Association for Down Syndrome, P.O. Box 206, Wilmette, IL 60091. The family wants everyone to know that they were blessed and loved by this simple woman, whose greatest joy was cooking and being surrounded by her family. We loved her so much.
