James Stephenson (II and/or III) 1730-1802 and Family

I'm a 5th g-gd of James and have seen his information citing both II and III, depending on the date and context. The name was used by his descendents, and the varying number is due to that. This has led to some confusion and occasional errors in interpretation. As a result, I believe someone has misinterpreted a story and created an online grave listing in an unlikely location.

James and his family lived in Monroe Co., all agree James died there. According to other researchers: "His Will is located in Will Book B, page 28, of the records of Monroe Co., VA. It was presented to the August Court, 1802." According to at least two publications regarding history of Jackson County, Ohio, after James died in 1802, his family left Monroe Co., with a group of his children settling in Jackson Co. This appears to be accurate. Nowhere does that story include mention of their deceased patriarch making the trip.

It seems unlikely that James would have been held above ground long enough to haul his remains over the mountains to Jackson from Monroe, but someone has placed his grave there. Is there any sort of Monroe history, grave survey, or other reference that would clarify this?
