Your post is from 2003 and I am currently looking for records for the family of Stephen Gilbert and Permila Whitten. Their dau Rachel Gilbert findagrave memorial # 42038174 married Abijah Rice. She was born Oct 16, 1784 or 81 Darke Co., Ohio and died Oct 3, 1853 in Madison County, IN. Abijah was born 1777 Darke Co., Ohio married Rachel Gilbert in 1802 and in 1810 lived in Greene Co. PA-this is a disputed boundary area with Monogalia County, WV and the history is very hard to find. I will give you more info if you email me at Coetting57@hotmail.com
I would like to know about Burnt Meeting House Church and if it is a Quaker Meeting House.
Courtesy lookup - not my family.

One reason you cannot find "Samuel H." BREWER after 1900, is because he called himself Charles H. BREWER in 1910-1940 censuses. I traced his mother, Louise C. BREWER to 1910 Cass, Monongalia, WV, and found her son, Charles H.and his bride of two years, (married about 1908) Edna M., and his daughter, Mildred G. (Gertrude) BREWER, born 18 Jan 1909, Charlotte, Monongalia.

I first thought maybe 1900 Samuel and 1910 Charles could be brothers, but on Charles's World War 1 & World War 11 draft, as well as his Aug 1970 Ohio death certificate, his birthdate was recorded as 1 May 1881, Monongalia. That is the correct birthdate for 1900 Samuel H. BREWER. So, Samuel H./Charles H./Charles Hurley BREWER are all the same man.

Hope this helps,
Laura

My best guess is this photo was taken around 1900. I'll try to find out more from my Dad later today. He's 90 and I found this photo in with some others he had stored away. Union was in Monongalia County I believe down near National and Flickersville where he grew up. I checked the State Photo Archives and found the church but no people shots so I might see about getting this submitted to the state archives. If anyone has any additional info please contact me. Thanks! Dave DeVault

I am searching for information on Samuel C. Brewer born March 1881 in Cass, Monongalia County, West Virginia. He was the son of Ephraim Brewer and Louisa Ramsey. I think he was in the 1900 census records in Cass, West Virginia. Also listed was Louisa C. Brewer, 55 years old and Ramsey Brewer, 67 years old. He was an uncle. But I can not find Samuel after this census.

Thank you.

By sheer coincidence, Melba is my cousin. Her mother is one of my grandmother's sisters (I think) from the Frankhouser family. I didn't know for a long time that Melba was married to Pony Lewis. She was married to Herman when i knew them and I didn't remember she had any children.
I have a picture of all the Grow/Frankhouser family circa 1934 or so and Melba is in the front row and Pony is in the back.
Send me your e-mail and I'll send a copy of the picture.I always enjoyed her so much as she had a great sense of humor. She worked at WVU when I was going there in the '60s.
Jim Wolfe

I'm descended from William Henry Salser, s/o Amazon (Andrew) Solomon Salser. William Henry m. Elizabeth Shutts and he had a brother Addison b. 10 May 1875 m. Grace Cather. Amazon (Andrew) Solomon Salser was married to Nancy Caroline Carter. Andrew's father Solomon Salser and wife Mary Roush had two children eldest being Amazon (
Andrew) b. 1846 and brother Adason E. was b.abt 1848 Meigs. Co., and d. 3 Nov 185l at age 1yr8mo8da William Chester twp, Meigs, Co., OH. This is why Amazon (Andrew) Salser named his child Addison (after is deceased younger brother Adason b. abt 1848). Addison s/o of Amazon (Andrew)was b. 10 May 1875 d. 21 July 1938, m. Grace Cather 21 Dec 1898. I know a descent of Ottmar s/o Addison b. 10 May 1875, her last name is Weekly and lives near Ripley and Ravenswood in the Sandyville area of Jackson Co., should you wish to talk to her about her side, Ottmer. She could confirm info on Ottmer's father and mother. Mary Roush died 4 Mar 1853 not long after death of her youngest child Adason in 1851 and Solomon her husband remarried 13 Apr 1856 to Sarah Anne Wolfe. My g-grandfather William Henry Salser was brother to Addison who was (father of Ottmer) from Karen, Wood Co., WV

Another descendant of Amazon SALSER is working with me to
compile the SALSER family of Jackson County, WV, to be included in the upcoming Volume 5 history of the ROUSH Family in America. I would like to ask to get your information to connect you to what I have. I am currently at the library answering e-mail and don't have my SALSER
material with me. You can e-mail me at: Roushhistorian@yahoo.com
Solomon SALSER's second wife was a ROUSH cousin to the first wife. Have you ever heard of Solomon being in the Civil War. A SALSER descendant gave her a picture of who is SUPPOSED to be Solomon in a Union uniform, but I can find no record of him serving in the Civil War
Keith D. We have a picture of the last reunion in Parkersburg City Park which Clyde and his family were in along with all his syblings that attended. I've not put on line as yet for we don't have the machine to upload to computer old pictures as yet so I can put on Ancestry.com

I, too, am a Isaac and Zelpha Horner descendent through their son, William. I am interested in whether you know where Isaac is buried in Monongalia County. I know that Zelpha was living with her son, Joseph, in Wetzel County in 1850 but I have been unable to locate her grave either.

Do you have Zeplha's affidavit for a widow's pension? I have a digital copy of it. Also I have the Death Record for William, dated 1888, Monongalia Co, WV if you are interested. You may find birth, death, and marriage records at wvculture.org. They have an extensive collection.

Marcy Keith

Upon the deaths of Michael Rhinehart's parents, Michael, as a child, was taken in by Mathias Seltzer. Seltzer served as a judge and commonly did this with orphaned youngsters in the area. He evidently did a good job with Michael as I have in the past received thank you notes from descendants of Michael Rhinehart on behalf of Mathias.

Henry Aylor was a friend of Mathias Seltzer.

I am national historian of the ROUSH and Allied Families in America. Your SALSER family is one of the missing lines of
the family. We are publishing our 5th volume on the family I have made great progress in compiling the family, but the more current living family I don't have. I have Otmer SALSER in my material. His grandfather was Addison SALSER, son of Mary (ROUSH) SALSER, of Meigs County, OH. When his mother died, his father remarried. I don't think the new wife wanted Addison. He finally went to Ravenswood. Keith D. Ashley, 34465 Crew Road, Pomeroy, OH 45769 (PH 740-992-7874)

I have had the worst time finding a way to get back to you !!! Finally figured out a way, I am so excited I can barely type !!
I have been searching for years for Great Grandfather Adin Potter's parents and had gotten a little bit from the Washington County Genealogical Society--the list of who is buried in the Prouty Cemetery near Granville, with a Henry Potter who died in 1852.Your Sept 2012 message did not reach me, probably an old e-mail address, but want to give you my correct e-mail address and get some correspondence going back and forth, could we? I know we are on the same page, what I have from Aunt Elsie [Adin and Diana's granddaughter] and the WCGS matches with what you shared , I just have some bad spellings!
Please e-mail and help me with this and let me catch you up on these relatives.

See West Virginia History, April 1976, p. 221 for "Revolutionary War Courts of Claim, Monongalia County" edited by Earl L. Core.
The author wrote, "During the Revolutionary War in western Virginia the various bodies of militia charged with the defense of the frontier against the Indians purchased materials or services from the local residents. Since currency was almost entirely lacking, these requisitions were paid for by "certificates" which were to be redeemed at some later dates when funds were available."

Core then lists names of men and women who provided materials or services. As he states, these records are valuable for: 1. names of settlers during Revolutionary War times; 2. types of materials and services supplied to the militia; 3. prices allowed to be paid for these services.

If you find the name of your ancestor on these lists, you may want to contact the DAR or SAR and ask if this qualifies your ancestor for service during the Revolutionary War and can you apply for membership with the right documentation.

I am so sorry to hear that there is a problem with the info. I know you must have worked very hard to get it done. (I organized and printed some annual booklets for my Church Association and getting letters from 16 churches was quite a task, so I can imagine how you worked to gather info.) I am also sorry that I won't be able to see the updated material. I am sure I won't be here in 2050 to see it. I don't even want to think about being 109 years old, lol. I hope she will reconsider.
JoAnna, Unfortunately I have run into a major snag. Lucinda, who wrote the book, died a couple years ago. Her daughter has the copyright. She apparently did not realize that I was putting new information into the book using a computer program. I had completed putting all the new information I had received into the book and had put it on CD's that I had at the Reunion. She refuses to allow me to distribute the CDs. The copyright extends for 60 years or 2050. I am quite distressed about the situation and hope maybe some accomodation can be reached.Rebecca

Hi Rebecca, I am wondering how the updates are going for the Darling White book. I have been so busy with other things I haven't done much research this summer. (It is over isn't it?) I couldn't make it to the White reunion but hope to be there next year. I understand it will be a special one. Do you need any more info from me? I intended to send you some photos but don't remember if I did it or not. Hope you are well. JoAnna

Information provided somewhat earlier found Joanna Sterling, with parents Andrew Sterling 1770-1814 married to Mary McMinn (her second husband) 1769-1847. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/t/e/Winfield-St...

There is quite a bit on the McMinn family on line and it appears that Mary's brother was a governor of Tennessee.

Hope this helps!

I would appreciate any info on the family of Charles McIntyre born abt 1883 in Fayette Co, PA, married to Maggie Brady. I know of a son, Bruce, who married a Tola Brofford in Mononglia Co. I found a death record that said that Bruce died of a crushed skull and abdomen. I think he was only in his 30's. I also know that Tola and Bruce had a son who died in infancy. Would love to find any other family info for Charles.

Thanks, Sherry
