I am looking for any information anyone might have on the history of Red Jacket, Mingo Co.,WV and the coal camp/boarding houses in that area between 1911 and 1920. My grandmother was sent to a boarding house that some of the out-of-town miners stayed at when she was around 12yrs old, she met my grandfather there while he was working for the Red Jacket coal company. My grandfather Calvary Runyon was born and lived (at the time) in Pike Co.,KY. Trying to find the proof of the story I've heard all my life of how they met, my grandmother Myrtle Salmons was born in Wayne Co., to an unwed mother and was sent to the boarding house at young girl to work. Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated!
