Dempsey Rice's Family

I believe that Marcus Dempsey Rice lived in Mineral County by 1910 (Owner of cemetery lots in 1909), but I don't have him in the census during that time. He was married to Laura Harman (I believe they married about 1910) and had several children. Laura died of the flu in 1918. One of their children died in 1915.
Davis News, September 2, 1915:
"Ruey E. Rice, the 17 - month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dempsie Rice, died this morning of peritinitis, at their home on Piedmont street. The funeral will take place tomorrow at the home, Rev. G. G. Martin, of the M. E. church, officiating. Interment will be made in Queens Point cemetery. --- Keyser Daily News, Aug. 26."

According to the above death notice, this child was buried in Queens Point Cemetery. However, I haven't found Ruey Rice in the online transcription of this cemetery.

Dempsey owned his own business in the Keyser area (Source: 1930 census). His next wife was named Maggie and they were married before 1920. I would appreciate any information on Dempsey's family. I would really like to know when he died and where he is buried. Thank you in advance.

I believe Dempsey Rice is from my Rice line. My greatgrandfather was Phillip Rice from Chaneysville Pennsylvania,Bedford County. Son of Christian and Racheal Blankley Rice. Phillip lived in Keyser after married Blanche Sanders. They had several children and Phillip had several brothers and sisters as well.
Christian and Racheal Blankley Rice had:
Elizabeth b 1853
Rosanna b. 1855
Nancy b. 1856 or Mary A.
George b. 1857
Malissa b. 1858
Christian b. 1860
Phillip b. 1862 married Blanche Cansas Sanders
Martha J. b. 1866
Henry J. b. 1874
Bryant b. 18?
Charles b. sept 17,1859 died 1933

I seem to remember that name somewhere during my research. He was right in the same area as my Rice family and as far as I know every Rice in Keyser is relate to each other on way or another. My main Family info is on my zip drive and it is down for now.
I have the Rice family traced straight back to Frederick Reiss (Rice) 1727-dec 2,1808 from Rotterdam,Germany.
I also have a photo of Christian and Racheal Rice as well as their son Phillip and his wife Blanche.
contact me for more info or if you might have any.

Thank you for responding to my post about Dempsey. I'm doing research on his 1st wife and their children. I don't know anything about his parents, siblings or ancestors. I was mainly trying to find out when and where he died and where buried.

Marques Dempsey Rice is my husband's great-grandfather. I am also seeking info about his parents. I have been unsuccessful so far in finding their names. Marques is buried in Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser beside his next wife Maggie. He was born in 1872 and died in 1935. Ruey Rice, the infant child of Marques and Laura, and Laura herself are also buried in the same family plot. Good luck and please feel free to forward any info you may have!

How are you related?

Thanks,
Dana

I recommend that you write to the vital records office in Charleston, WV and get Dempsey's death records. You can get them from the county clerk in Mineral County, but those records don't have as much info as the state records. At least the county records I have found so far, don't have very much info. This should give you the names of his parents. I do research on the HARMAN family, which was his 2nd wife Laura HARMAN.

Which was of his children does your husband descend from?

I have a funeral notice for Dempsey, but it doesn't have hardly any information. It was published on June 15, 1935. There might have been a better obituary for him in a later paper, but I don't have that. Do you know anything about his daughters Jessie and Elsie? Thanks, J.

My husband is the grandson of Dempsey and Maggie's first son, Marques Dempsey Jr. Marques Jr. had 5 children, one of his 3 sons, David Rice, is my husband's father. I do not have any info on any of Dempsey and Laura's children, but my father-in-law may (they would be his aunts). I will ask him and get back to you.

I am related to Rachael Blankley. Her brother Eli is my great grandfather. I would be interested in the picture you have of Christian and Rachael and their son Philip. Can you scan them and E:Mail them?

I never heard back on the possibility of getting a copy of the picture of Christian, Rachel and Phillip. Eli Blankley was my great, great grandfather. Would you scan it and send me a copy that way to calloomis@roadrunner.com? If not I will send you my mailing address.
