The Rev. Jiles Elliott Tilley, Jr., 89, of 598 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
The Rev. Tilley was born July 3, 1918, in Camebreak, WV to the late Jiles E. Tilley, Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Slate Tilley.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Moser Tilley; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jerry Jester of Yadkinville; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Annette Tilley of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Erica Tilley, Adrianne Tilley, Kyle Tilley, and Chad Jester, all of Jacksonville, FL; and three sisters, Inez Jefferson, Zora Ward, and Nettie Hooker.
In addition to his parents, the Rev. Tilley was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lynn Tilley.
The funeral service will be held Friday, June 27, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Tommy Smith and the Rev. J.P. Sizemore, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
