WWI Vet from Gary, McDowell County, W. Va.Thomas G.Bailey
I live in East Bend, NC. A monument was found lying in a ballfield on one of our school ball fields. I searched the internet and found the person on the monument was from Gary, W. Virginia. His name is Thomas G. Bailey b. Nov.16,1892 and died Dec. 28, 1957. He was a WWI vet. I have no idea how the monument got where it was, but there was a lot of vandalism of graveyards several years ago. The veterans from Yadkin County, NC are trying to locate where this monument belongs. We don't know if Mr. Bailey lived in North Carolina, or after he got out of service went back to W. Virginia. I went to Ancestry. Com and found his military record. This is the information I have as listed on Ancestry. He was African(black). He was short, medium build. His address was 1177 Gary, West Va.,McDowell County, this was in 1917. There was no street address. He was aged 25 and single, African-American. I have not been able to pull up any birth or death records for him. The dates are from the monument. If you can help us out we would be very grateful. On his military records, his occupation was (L. Alisrew 4),this was hard to make out. He was employed by U. S. Z or 3/C.(could not tell it this was a Z or a 3). He was employed at #6 Nke(not sure about the N). Does anyone know where this place of employment was in 1917, or know of this man?
Thanks for your help.
