Surnames: PURDY, CARR, MORGAN
I show John as being John L. V. Morgan born abt. 1849 in Marshall County to parents David & Mary Morgan. I am trying to determine if David is the brother of Thomas & Robert Morgan, both sons of Andrew & Elizabeth Morgan. Andrew being born between 1785 - 1790 in either Pennsylvania or Scotland.
When John married Mary Purdy Carr in 1890, he was a widow and she was divorced.
As for Mary's parents, she is the daughter of Robert C. Purdy and Minerva Goodrich. Robert was born abt. 1820 in Westchester County, New York and Minerva was born abt. 1823 in Ohio.
Robert & Minerva were married 31 Dec 1838 in Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia (Virginia at that time).
Robert was known as Captain Purdy in Moundsville, but he was listed as only a Private in the Civil War.
According to some Marshall County family history, he was the son of Simeon (shown as Simon in some records) Purdy. At the time Moundsville was two separate towns - one Elizabethtown and the other Mound City. Simeon was the founder of Mound City - the southern section of what is now Moundsville that included the area that contains the Grave Creek Indian Burial Mound.
Simeon is buried at Mt. Rose Cemetery in Moundsville. His wife, Mary is buried at First Street (Calvary Methodist) Cemetery in Moundsville. This cemetery was originally known as the Graveyard Lot of Waynesburg Avenue.
