Good Evening all!

I have just returned from a wonderfull weekend visiting my family in Branchland WV. While I was there I was able to fully document the following Cemeteries: Green Vance, Marion Vance, Baby Mead, Webb, and Old Gartin Family Cemetery. I was also able to document about 75% of the Queens Ridge Cemetery.

I was looking for my Grandmother Stella (Williamson) Nelson and my Great-Grandfather Pearly Jackson Williamson but was unable to find them. I found out the day I left that they and many other family members were laid to rest in the Dial Cemetery located on FourMile in/near Branchland.

If anyone is interested in any of the photos from any of the above listed cemeteries, please feel free to contact me directly at shmatthew@columbus.rr.com. Also, if anyone has any information on the Dial Cemetery please contact me.

Thanks!
Sherry Matthews

Researching Surnames: Crum, Nelson, Gartin, Williamson, Webb, Wiley and many, many more!

I am interested in the origin of the Harless Fork Church
on 4 mile. It is a baptist church, was built in the
early 1800's and it made out logs. Where did the land
come from and does anyone know its description. It stands
across the road from where my grandmother/grandfather lived.
Their names was Rev. Robert Edward McClellan and Roxy.
They are the parents of Dr. G. O. McClellan of West Hamlin.
Any information would be appreciated.

I have seen this several times on the message board.Going through my family records John Thomas Browning owned a store and beer joint on top of the hill on Rt 10 West Hamlin, the bear was chained to a tree and would drink beer. People would pay money to wrestle this bear. I have not found any pictures of this bear. I have heard this through my uncle and has talked to the I think great grandson of Tom.

Someout out there must know know or be my Adkins family!

I have recently been trying to research my Adkins family tree and have found that one of the people I am interested in just died in 1966. Someone that comes into this message board has to know Ben H. Adkins from Lincoln Co. WV. He was the man that took in my grandmother when her mother died in the 1920's. If anyone knows of this man, is related to him, or knows someone that is. Please let me know...I'm sure he has children or grandchildren out there that maybe asking the same questions I am about things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeking any information on the parents and/or siblings of James HONAKER who is listed in Union District in Lincoln Co. on the 1900 census. James, b. abt 1847 in VA, was married about 1876 to Susan H. UNKNOWN, who was b. abt 1856 also in VA. Their children listed in 1900 are Laurabell HONAKER, b. abt 1878; Julia E. HONAKER, b. abt. 1882; Charles R. J. HONAKER, b. abt. 1884; John F. HONAKER, b. abt. 1886; and George W. HONAKER, b. abt. 1892. The annotation in the census included for this family indicates that Julia E. HONAKER married Grant LOVEJOY and Charles R. J. HONAKER married Sarah Eliza SMITH.
I'm trying to determine if the James HONAKER in Lincoln County in 1900 is the same person as James Fulton HONAKER, son of Henry HONAKER and Mary Ann COMPTON who had come to Lincoln Co. probably from KY by 1876. Their son, James Fulton HONAKER, was born in Russell Co., VA about 1847. Any information or clues from anyone would be most helpful and appreciated.

Death Certificates indicate the cemetary was still in use in the 1950's; but, I can't find it. Can anyone help me with it's location.

I have researched the Spurlock family for several years and
have a large file I am willing to share.

Of particular interst to me is:
Charles Buchannon Spurlock 1773 - 1857
Married Barthenia Dial Hager 1780 - 1880
Charles is buried in the Spurlock Family Cemetery
above the Spurlockville Post Office. It is at the top of a bank on the right, you walk up an old gas line. There are only 2 graves that can be identified, Charles and Robinson Spurlock. Charles was said to be a highly educated Physcian having received his training in Scotland. Charles was also reported to be a large man about 300 lbs and loved the outdoor life. Spurlocksville was most probably named after Charles Buchannon Spurlock. Charles was said to have bought 1,500 acres on the left turn of Uptons Creek. Charles and Barthenia had 10 children. I descend from Seth Spurlock 1826 - 1923 and Jane Hart 1833 - 1913 my Great Granparents. They are both buried in the Pea Ridge Cemetery. I am trying to determine if Charles Buchannon Spurlock was a doctor of some type or was he a farmer like most of the other people at this time. Also looking for the grave of Barthenia.

My great grandmother was Vittura (we aren't sure about the correct spelling of her name) Adkins Burns, daughter of Clayburn & Lucy Smith Adkins, wife of William Francis Marion Burns. She was born 12-5-1876 and died 7-18-1926 here in Lincoln County. She died when my grandmother was young and I have never seen a photo of her. I have searched and found photos of her mother, father, sisters, etc., but none of her. Does anyone out there have a photo of Vitt? I will feel like part of myself is missing until I know what my great grandmother looked like. Please help if you can!

Descendants of Smith Ferrell and Nettie McCleary Ferrell Shuff

My great grandparents were Smith and Nettie McCleary Ferrell. (She married Robert Shuff after Smith's death and had one son by him.) My grandmother was their daughter Delphia, who married Bernie Blackburn Adkins. Unfortunately, the only sibling of Delphia's that I knew at all was her oldest sister Spicie, and of her children, I only knew Oleta Williamson. Please, if anyone reading this is descended from these people, please contact me at HamlinWV25523@aol.com, and put Ferrell or genealogy in the subject line. I hate not knowing my own family. I have a bunch of old pictures that belonged to my grandmother...I do not know most of the people in them...some have a name on the back but I don't recognize that name, or they don't have anything written on the back. I have most of these photos posted on Photobucket and will send anyone a link and password if you think you may know who any of them are.

DALTONS & THOMPSONS in Harts Creek

Hi, I hope there are some folks out there who can help me.

In the 1900 census for Harts Creek, Lincoln co, WV, I found Moses and America (Thompson) Dalton with 2 of their sons. Also listed as a boarder was Martha Thompson, age 14, born February 1886. She is my great grandmother. I'm trying to figure out how she is connected to the Daltons; obviously, she is somehow related to America, but how?

The story in our family is that Martha's mother died in childbirth and she was raised by the Daltons. We don't know who her parents were. I thought perhaps she was a daughter of one of America's brothers, but that has not panned out so far. There's a big family of Thompsons there, and I know how America connects, but I'd really like to know how Martha is connected.

Any help would be much appreciated by me and aunt, who was raised by Martha; she wants to know too.

Laurie
