Charles Edward McGhee

Charles Edward "Stubby" McGhee, 88, a lifelong resident of Hurricane, passed away Feb. 28, 2007. He has been reunited with his wife, Ruby, in Heaven after 65 years of marriage. She passed away Sept. 16, 2006.

He was born March 14, 1918, and was one of 11 children of the late Effie May and Virgil McGhee.

He served in the Army during World War II and retired in 1980 from Iron Workers Local 316 after 42 years of service.

In addition to his wife, Ruby, and his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Larry H. and Charles Eddie McGhee; daughter, Jerry Joy Clay; great-grandson, Steven Charles Fridley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Helen, Fred, Raymond, Robert, Clyde and Thelma, Clay, Joe and Mildred; sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Normal and Donna and James Lucas; and sons-in-law, Darrell Arbaugh and Frank Alford.

He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Keith Griffith and June Alford of Hurricane, Kay and Ray Cremeans of Ohio and Judy Watts of St. Albans.

Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Bessie McGhee and his family who took care of him in his time of need, beloved daughter, Kathy Griffith; beloved grandchildren, Susan Pauley, Michelle McGhee Mullins and husband, David, Becky Fridley, Tim and Shane Alford and Kristin and Kaila Mullins. He had a total of 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren, with twins, Allison Nicole and Timothy Shane, on the way.

He will be sadly missed by several nieces, nephews and friends, including special nieces, Sharon Thomas and Leah Tabor.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Stephen Neese officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
