I am researching my family, "Moles" and have run across a place listed several times in the genealogies of other families.

Apparently there was a "Moles Island" located in the Kanawah River. Does anyone know if there is still an island by that name, and how it came to get that name? I know that a large number of Moles ancestors settled in the Great Kanawha Valley, but I don't know if the place is named after people or the little critters that burrow under the ground.
