Hommel 3947, on the Jackson Co. gen page please scroll down halfway on the left side....hit Jackson Co. archieves on the WV net. Most of the families you are interested in sounded like extreme northern JC names, so check out these cem. inventories available on the subsite I mentioned. There are Flinns in Ebenezer and Flinn Cemeteries. Wood Co. ( linked to this page) also has another nearby Flinn Cem. Swains can be found in Union Chapel. Vanhorns in the Vanhorn Cem. Plenty of Rawsons in Boso, Rawson, and Willowdale. Logstons in Ebenezer and Logston. I believe there are Smiths in some of these same cems. Taking names and dates you find, go across to the right side of the Jackson gen page and see WV's birth, death and marriage records. This should give you a good start. Also check out Jackson page's WV Pioneers. Recommend DON NORMAN FILES and LDS Family Search. I believe you can also find related Bosos in southern Wood Co. Cems. Merry Christmas, Fletch . If you e-mail me at ploverrover@hotmail.com I may be able to provide a bit more help.

Hi Bill,

I am interested in contacting you about Susannah Williams.

I am a descendant of Mathew Williams who we believe is Susannah's older brother.

I am trying to put together the rest of the Williams' siblings. We know that Abraham's children went to the area of Idaho where Mathew lived. Mathew left Wirt in 1850/51, traveling by houseboat which they built to travel down the Ohio River, with his married sister and brother-in-law to Shawneetown, Gallatin Co., IL where he purchased land, married and had his family. He returned to Wirt in 1870 by paddle steamer up the Ohio River for about nine months with his family who are enumerated in the 1870 census. After that he returned to IL and kept moving West until he reached Asotin WA and Nez Perce ID.

My great grandfather, whom I knew, wrote a family history. I have the original hand-written document of which at least one page is missing.

His older brother kept a diary which includes his description of his visit to his "Uncle Alpha" and many aunts and cousins in 1907 to Wirt Co. WV. He also tells about his trip up the Ohio River by paddle steamer as a boy.

We do not know the name of the sister who Mathew traveled with, but we think there are other older siblings. I have some information about Mathew's parents.

I would love to have a copy of Susannah's picture to compare with others I have obtained of Alpha, Mariah and Lavinia. I have photos of Mathew.

Please contact me at sl.lemkuil@verizon.net

Thank you,
Sharon

The only info I have seen is sons only. I have a family tree on Ancestry.com and would like to have the correct info, so if other family members are searching, they'll have accurate info. The name of the tree is Criss-Starcher. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Crystal

I'm not sure I'm correct but I have the date for Jacob I as about 1720. On Jacob II, I have 15 Sept. 1749 NJ or PA. I have Phillip born 1779. I have six sons for Jacob II and no girls. Do you have any daughters for him? We seem to hit on three of our lines. Your Phillip Starcher was a brother to my Abraham. Rebecca Mace, Phillip's second wife was a sister to my GGG grandfather John Henry Mace who married 1. Mary Davies, 2. Sarah Cogar (my line). Louisa Lynch d/o of Joseph & Lydia Whytsell Lynch was my grandfather George's niece.

Those old obits drive me up the wall... they will say ... so and so died Friday. Well, now I have to find out WHAT Friday and WHAT Year.... We have come a long way with the obits being mini histories of families. Just wish all funeral directors would put the maiden name of spouses. Good luck searching.

My grandmother, Mary Blanche Combs Williamson had tucked away an old obituary from
The Charleston Gazette: It read: Burt Leonard Ankrum -- Service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Cottageville (Jackson County) EUB Church with Rev. Glenn black officiating. Burial will be in Blaine Memorial Cemetery near Cottageville. Mr. Ankrum, 81, of Mt. Alto, Jackson County, died Tuesday night in a Pt. Pleasant hospital after a short illness. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rhesa Keffer, of Anderson, Indiana, and Mrs. Lavonia Davis of Norfolk, Va; four brothers, Roy of Evans, Clyde of Cottageville, Harley of Alexandria, Ind. and Glenn of Anderson, Ind; and five sisters, Mrs. Edna Sayre, Mrs Ella Durst and Mrs. Stella Durst, all of Cottageville, Mrs. Hallie Shinn and Mrs. Ethel Bennett, both of Mt. Alto. Castor mortuary in Evans, Jackson County.
There was no date of birth or death noted. The census in error is transcribed him as Burton Andrum. From a 1900 census his parents were William M. born May 1853; Adelphia A., born Aug. 1860. Listed children were (Burton Oct. 1878) Stella J. born Oct. 1880; Ethel L. born Oct 1882; Clyde L. Aug. 1886; Harley E. born Oct. 1888; Mary E. born Nov. 1892; Sydney E. born May 1895 and Edna B. Mar 1899. The Daniel Lee Family Tree indicates that Burton Leonard Ankrum was born October 12, 1878 and died March 10, 1959.
His mother was Adelphia Ann Lloyd born 1860 and died 1943 and his father was William Madison Ankrum. Marriage to Ora A. Edwards in 1902 and Emma Heister in 1917. You can check the dates, etc. to make sure they are factual.

I know it has been a while since the last post, but I thought I would post anyway. My line goes through Philip Starcher and his wife Rebecca Mace. My grandfather was Glover O. Starcher, son of Commodore Starcher b.1899, married to Lucy M. Sampson. His father was Hiram Ed Starcher b.abt.1871, married to Louisa Lynch. His father, Jacob Starcher b. 1812 was married to Elizabeth Little. His father was Philip Starcher b.1779, married to Rebecca Mace. My dates for Jacob I and Jacob II are too close together to be correct. If anyone has correct dates for them, please let me know. Thank You, Crystal Criss-Sexton

Many years back, you offered to take pictures of my Matheny relatives in the Carbon Hill cemetery, if you are still able to do that, could you take pictures of the graves around them? I'm looking for more family.

The names would be Dehnen, Steinbrink or Matheny. Any of those names would be great. If there are any military connections, that would be a big help.

My father was born in Belvidere, Tennessee, in 1907 or 1909. His mother, Emma Schwartz, was born in Tennessee. The Scwartz family has traced their earliest German ancestry to a Casper and Wilhelmina Byerle, who lived during the 18th century. I do not think that they left Germany; some of their descendants came to America.

Do you know of any connection between your Byerle people and Casper and Wilhelmina? If I could learn Wilhelmina's maiden name, I'd be able to go back another generation.

I had no idea that Byerle was such a common name in W. Va.

Thanks.
Alice Sommers Long
I found an old photo that has "Oliver & Julie Hutton Husband & Wife" written on the back. It was in with a bunch of my old family photos (none of which have names!). A quick search gave me: Oliver b. 12 Apr 1847 in Putnam County, WV. I am sure that this Oliver and Julia had to have lived in WV at some point. I'd be more than happy to scan and email this picture to anyone interested. I'd love to know my family (Casto, Cobb, Taylor, Westfall)is connected to these Huttons b/c I can not find a link.
Lena McKee

Jackson County Pioneer Project

The JCPP is being revived as a place for You to share Your research in a family tree manner. I am hosting it on the West Virginia Pioneer website, but it will be held in a separate "tree" with the capability of searching both databases (yours and mine) at one time. Each person who contributes will have their own "branch" on the JCPP "tree" and will retain full ownership, including the right to have me delete it at any time. NO ONE else will be able to alter or delete YOUR data. It WILL NOT be merged with my data or that of anyone else.

First and foremost is that this is a JACKSON COUNTY PIONEER PROJECT and as such, is for people who lived in Jackson County, and their ancestors, since we want to know where they came from. The cost of server space dictates that we will not be including families after they move away, nor will we include families that did not move into Jackson county.

Contribution MUST be by GEDCOM because I simply don't have time to enter data any other way.

The first person has contributed a gedcom and you can check it out by searching at
http://wvpioneers.com/searchform.php
In the drop down box for "Tree" choose "Jackson County Pioneers" and type in "Ferguson" in the "Last Name" box.

If you choose "All Trees" you will find several people are in both Trees. Imagine what it will look like when there are more "Branches".

The rules are pretty simple and you can read them here:
http://www.wvgenweb.org/jackson/JCPP.html

If you are interested and have questions after reading the above page, contact me at the link on the above page.

Thanks for sharing!
Betty

And speaking of Jesse Hughes, now in production is a film about Jesse, being shot in WV locales. Ed Clevenger, who was rasied in Ravenswood WV, is the producer. His early home abuts the cemetery where Jesse's Memorial is displayed, and he saw the memorial weekly. The next shooting is in Coonskin Park near Charleston, all day Oct 18,2009. I'm trying to go, as Jesse is my 3rd Great Grand Uncle, brother to my 3rd Great Grand Father, Job Jacob Hughes. Volunteer costumed White and Indian extras still need, to finish the last 1/2 of the film. Contact Ed Clevenger 1-863-651-2145, or email jessehughesfilm@yahoo.com

Robb and Sommerville families

My name is Brittany Pearson and I'm looking for more information on my great-grandparents' families. They resided primarily in Jackson, Doddridge and Harrison counties in WV. Much of the information I already have came from the Doddridge County website but I'm looking for more. My great-grandfather was Luther Hobert Sommerville (1897-1973), the son of Robert Wesley Sommerville (1862-1958) and grandson on William Sommerville (?-1876). Luther Hobert Sommerville married Anna Mae Robb (1913-1999 of Pocahontas Co, WV) in Jackson County in 1941. Anna Mae Robb was the daughter of Harry A. Robb and Frances Mae (Mann?) I am unsure of her maiden name but know that there are Manns in my family as well. I also have the name Phoebe Agnes Mann but I'm not sure where she fits in. Any help or information you have will be greatly appreciated. I can be reached by email @ xownlilwrldx@gmail.com

I located the Jackson Yauger Cemetery for Richardson Pickens who died Apr 27, 1886 aged 52 y 4 m 8 d and found on the other side of his monument Almira wife of R Pickens died Apr 16, 1881 -- could be 1884 -- the monument is so worn. There is something in small letters at the bottom -- and the best I could make it out -- says something about mother. Almira was 26 y and 18 d old when she died. Information received later was that Almira Lane was from Ohio -- Meigs County. Anyone with more information?

I have a question, I have been told this is the same Richardson Pickens who was married to Julia Taylor. They m. 22 nov 1854 in Mason Co. do you know if this is the same one, Julia died in 1889, I have, after Richardson died so if its the same one, did they divorce or what. This Richardson Pickens was the son of Wm. Pickens and another Julia Taylor, that couple m. in 1835 Meigs Co. would like to straighten this Richardson Pickens out. thank YOu Jane Boucher.
